I was never much for soda, but candy was another matter. I had a pretty serious sugar addiction and could eat my weight in gum drops, jelly beans, or M&Ms. Honestly, I would eat till I got the shakes from the sugar. It was really hard to break that addiction, especially when the co-worker next to me had a jar of M&Ms that we all took turns refilling. One day I decided I had to quit cold turkey. Oh, man, it was hard, but I drew upon willpower I didn't know I had, aided by an awful feeling that my diet and weight were setting me up for diabetes. Now I don't have the "thou shalt obey" cravings, and when I recently did eat a small bag of candy, I felt lousy. That's a good sign to me.

The other thing for sure is that my body gets really used to sugar and I used to get cravings.

It's a lot better now and I normally just get it through fruit. There was a real adjustment period where I just felt that fruit wasn't enough. What a real shock to see that.

Overall, i find my life is a lot better if every time I eat there is some protein and almost no sugar. Getting the carbs from veggies, whole grains, etc - way better!

I'm fuller longer and there are no cravings.

Me neither! I have stopped drinking pop, having processed carbs. Just a little real sugar and honey for coffee and tea.
