That is not a fun way to spend your daughters birthday. Hope you feel better soon. Things are ok. My mom is moved in. She has small cell lung cancer. She is doing chemo. I have some blogs up.

Hey Pru! Hope everything is going well for you. I'm sitting at home today with bronchitis which is a bummer since its my daughter's birthday. Looks like not much workout for me this week but as bad as I'm feeling I'll have no trouble staying under calories. Lol

Hello? I'm back on spark after moving to another city to find work and get away from an abusive ex husband. Things are finally slowing down to where I can get back to working on my health. I've lost ten pounds the last two months working with my doctors so it's going well so far.

I'm still around too. I'm trying to get back to logging but not spending much time commenting or reading threads/blogs. I moved houses recently and it has consumed all my free time.

I hope my fellow monkeys are doing ok.

It's tough to run the same route all the time, you'll probably need to find some other times for at least 1 long run a week in different places just to mix things up on your body to avoid repetition injury and to more easily get the distance beneath you.

I definitely suggest getting one good pair of shoes and sticking with it. I currently wear the 5 fingered Vibrams with the barefoot sole and toes, but those take a long time to get used to, so you should probably go with a basic padded pair of New Balance or Asics. I used to wear New Balance support shoes because I over-pronate a lot (put pressure on the inside of my foot on the big toes).

Also, cross-train, lift weights, especially for your legs - hamstrings and calves, because if your muscles are strong it really helps.

In terms of pushing past that point, running is really just as much a mental game as a physical one, and I use my music and some positive mantras when I hit tough spots. It's also okay to alternate walking and running through tough spots. Sometimes, if it's hot or I'm tired, I'll do my practice long run as 10 steps walking, 10 steps running. Usually, your body can handle more than it seems, keep your eye on the finish point and push through it. I'm really fond of music like Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believing"

Thanks. Right now I'm still walking and throwing in a run every now and then. I'm just over 4 miles. Any tips would be very helpful. I'm doing this in the school parking lot when my kiddo has baseball practice. The concrete parking lot is horrific on my shins. I had to stop for a few weeks to let them heal a little. I'm rotating running shoes but I'm not sure if that is helping or hurting. Probably time to get fitted.

I've noticed if I look at the ground, I don't get intimidated by the distance and give up.
How did you get over that hump where you just didn't think you could keep going?

Hey Teri, I've run 4 half marathons in the last three years and I'm signed up for #'s 5 in Nov and #6 in Feb! They are a blast, and you'll pick up miles faster than you think once you get past 6 or 7. You only need to train to 11 or 12, so consider that when working on it. Let me know if you have questions or anything!

Still plugging along. I'm feeling really motivated to get myself back together after letting myself slip again. Started working for a great company where everyone is super fit. They've motivated me to sign up for the Dallas half marathon in December which they've assured me "is plenty of time" to get ready emoticon

It has Ben really crazy for us too. Lots of family and personal health issues in the last two years. It does seem to be returning to normal. I mean as normal as it can be.
