We've never done actual art lessons but have lots of supplies on hand to create with. My husband has a BFA in studio art with a specialization in graphic design. He coaches them in whatever they are interested in and picks out gifts for Christmas related to where he sees each child's interest taking off. Pen and ink was a hit last year. D20 is double majoring in music composition and studio art with a specialization in digital art. D15 seems to be following in her footsteps as far as art is concerned and on trips draws designs as we drive to see family.

Just the other day she did these on my phone between sessions of helping me maneuver through cities while we traversed the midwest...

We have used websites and a program called Creativity Express in the past. This year the girls are taking classes at a local Art Academy/Museum. I am pretty sure we`ll continue there next year.:-)

I'm also not artistic at all. That's a subject we haven't covered well I'm afraid. I did take my daughter to an art class last year (couldn't get my son interested in going) but other than going over some famous artists' work, that's all we've done. Not the best answer, but truthful, LOL.

art is such a vast subject with so many mediums; it's a fun and endless. My ds enjoys finding things and creating something out of it. I do throw in artist studies and style of arts. We also occasionally visit an art class at a local library. When my ds was very little, I gave him colored water in a spray bottle to go "paint" the snow. He had a BLAST! Today his art was creating shaped kites after a study of ancient China.

I am not in the least artistic. My son is very much into drawing and painting. So what to do? Well, my first choice was a delightful class run by the park district on drawing cartoons, when he graduated from that we did a class on Ceramics. He did not enjoy that as much, but we took 2 complete sessions just to be sure. Then, lucky for us, a friend of mine gave me the email of a local art teacher that specializes in teaching home schoolers! He loves it. He is in with friends and I get to go have coffee with the moms while we wait.

What do you do?
