Today (Fri 9/13) was the 8 year anniversary of the first episode of Supernatural! For 8 years the Winchesters have been in our lives. Awesome, huh?

The CW has adjusted the premiere dates for some favorite shows. Supernatural is now premiering on Tue 10/8 at 9 pm EST

The Originals will be premiering on 10/3 after Vampire Diaries, with the 2nd episode airing as a lead in to the Supernatural premiere, with an encore of the 2nd episode after the 2nd episode of Vampire Diaries. Most likely they're trying to ensure a following from Vampire Diaries to The Originals. Reign will premiere on 10/17 now.

The writers have been getting back in the office and hashing out ideas. Production is starting up this week. The actors will probably be getting back to Vancouver soon.

I was so excited to see her tweet! I was also a little annoyed to see that Clif is getting asked to send out a picture of JJ. Some fans just don't think. Hopefully Danneel and Jensen will share pictures after a few weeks, when their family and friends have had a chance to meet JJ. I hope she's a cute baby who will grow up to be a beautiful woman.

It's Genevieve's sister, Jared's sister-in-law.

If you go to Supernatural Wiki, they have links for tons of videos, pictures, and write-ups about conventions all over the world. If you know the names of some of the cons you can also look them up on youtube, but SuperWiki is great at putting together a list.

I hope you enjoy Arrow, even if the character isn't played by your preferred actor. There's nothing wrong with watching a show online - one person watching each episode once online is just a small drop in the bucket really. And if you enjoyed the show, then what's the difference? Enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about it.

As for the SPN group, there's been a lot of conventions lately, so the cast has been doing a lot of traveling. Also, ICYMI Genevieve Padalecki's sister was in an awful car accident a week or two ago (I don't remember for sure right now) and is in the hospital. Very little information is known, but it's been said things don't look good. Jared & Gen rushed home from an overseas convention to be with her. Jensen & Danneel are preparing for the arrival of their daughter, so I'm sure that's keeping them pretty busy. After Bobby was lost on SPN, Jim Beaver has been doing a lot of other shows. He had a 2 episode appearance on Mike & Molly; unfortunately, the season finale (Jim's 2nd appearance) was due to air on Monday and considering it included a tornado the episode was delayed out of respect for Oklahoma.

Thanks. I don't like to deal with the politics of message boards frequented by rabid fans. Unfortunately, I have a hard time dealing with the bullying and ship wars that appear in some places. If you want to know my thoughts on other shows, let me know. If you have some thoughts, please share. I don't have a lot of people around me who are interested in the same shows as me, let alone my thoughts (and occasional fan-girl-ing) about those shows.

I love Arrow. The first season was flat out incredible. I think Stephen owned the part and I absolutely love seeing him half naked on my tv! I tuned in the first episode to check it out and was hooked quickly. Colton Haynes is supposedly going to be his partner/sidekick (Red Arrow) next season and I'm incredibly excited for that! To have two ridiculously good looking guys on my tv fighting evil, plus the yum that is Diggle, and the sweet and adorable Felicity showing the girl power - yeah I'm totally excited for next season!

I'm hoping that The Originals will get some great ratings. I've seen some people who are like me, thinking they're not sure how TVD will remain as awesome without the original family. Still, with the expected crossovers, I'm not sure I want to watch just TO and not TVD. I DVR most of the shows I watch so I never miss any, but if there's ratings issues for TO I have no problem playing it from the website while I do stuff around the house! hehe

I tried watching BATB, but I couldn't get into it. To me, it was too strange to mix a cop procedural with a supernatural romance. I got to the point where I was watching an episode 3 times and couldn't remember anything that happened, so I was done. It works for many, apparently, so power to the fans.

Yes, in the link I posted earlier you'll see the confirmed fall lineup coming out of the upfronts. Heart of Dixie is on Mondays and Carrie Diaries is on Fridays. But that doesn't mean the shows are safe. Based on what I've read, both shows are a little iffy on viewership. No network wants to have more than half of their schedule be new shows; they already have 3 new shows in fall, with 2 more shows for mid-season premieres, versus 7 returning shows. If they had replaced Heart of Dixie and Carrie Diaries with new shows, the fall schedule would have 5 returning shows and 5 new shows - that's just ridiculous, to be honest. Next Top Model is a 1/2 season show (if I remember correctly), so one of the 2 mid-season premieres will take over that timeslot for the spring, but where will the other one go? Either one of the new shows will only get their initial 13 episode run (I know The Originals got a 13 ep pickup with options for 22 episodes based on performance, but I'm not sure about The Tomorrow People or Reign - I'm assuming they're the same way) and give up the slot for the spring, or they are ready to replace whatever show has the lowest ratings. If CD & HoD are running low in the ratings they may still get a full season but be axed for next season. I was just making a point of what I've seen, which is that both shows aren't getting enough attention from fans so if something doesn't change in the fall they might not be picked up for another year. (So if you like a show, consider watching it once or twice online to boost the ratings - unless you have a nielsen box/survey that already counts your viewing as a few thousand people watching the show. I watched TO 3 or 4 times online the day after it aired, even though the pickup was approved early in the day; I REALLY want to show my interest in the show!) Also, the recent CW awards didn't give much love to those two shows, which coincides with a non-rabid fanbase compared to other shows on the network, which would sway opinions with network executives. Heck, with the drop in ratings for SPN for seasons 6 & 7, I'd be willing to bet that the rabid voting, cons, and massive fan presence online was a big help in keeping the show alive. And that adds to the idea of why the CW is becoming a cult network - they can't touch the big networks in ratings but they can kill them in fan insanity! haha

HoD looked like a nice idea to me, but I totally missed when it started and I don't want to go back and try to catch up. CD didnt' grab my attention so I never watched it at all.

Heart of Dixie was renewed and I think The Carrie Diaries was too.

Heart of Dixie is a guilty pleasure. The plot lines are so bad and it's totally cheesy but I watch for some reason.
And I guess that's why I can't understand why they cancelled a smart and witty show like Emily Owens, but keep on shows like H of D.

And don't even get me started on reality shows!

I've heard that plenty of people are unhappy about losing Emily Owens. Yes, the CW is heading towards being a genre/cult channel. Their biggest draws have been TVD and SPN, so that's what they're skewing to. Arrow has gotten great attention (much deserved, as the entire season was incredible) and that probably added to the genre fever. I think Heart of Dixie is also close to the chopping block, but they're trying to pair it up with BATB which has gotten a fanbase with enough cultish power to be making blips on polls and awards. (SPN fans are the most rabid voters ever, so making some noise against SPN & TVD is something.) The Carrie Diaries could also be at risk too, so pairing it with Next Top Model may help bump viewership.

Remember, though, that many channels now end up in some form of a box. CBS is full of procedural shows, for instance. FOX has controversial programming. HBO has a lot of sexuality in their shows. ABC has reality programming. ABCFamily has shows that try to teach teens and tweens about what life could be, but in a more gentle way. So Arrow wouldn't fit on ABC, Simpsons wouldn't fit on HBO, Pretty Little Liars wouldn't work on CBS, etc. The same people pick the shows that will air, so it kinda makes sense that they green light similar shows over time.

I am not interested in any of the new shows on the CW.
I really liked Emily Owens, MD but they didn't renew it after the first 13 episodes aired. It was a really good show with a good plot line and I liked the characters.
Unfortunately, it didn't fit the mold of the majority of the shows now on CW so it didn't get a fair shake, in my opinion.

I've seen a lot of info on the upfronts on twitter; a lot of it coming from @cadlymack who is (or was? she might be going to another job) a writer at zap2it, who covers a lot of the CW shows. The CW themselves are calling it Amell Family night; Stephen and Robbie are cousins actually. I've been following Stephen on twitter and facebook for awhile (he treats his fans like friends - so awesome).

FYI, due to my medical conditions, I spend a lot of time watching tv and movies, though I don't always get drawn into the conventional and typical shows and movies that get so much attention. I mostly watch CBS (I can put it on in the late morning/early afternoon and leave it on the rest of the night) and a few shows on the CW (clearly I'm looking forward to some of the new shows coming so I'll be watching even more next season). I don't watch much on ABC, NBC, or FOX and I'm not willing to pay for HBO (and similar channels). Occasionally I'll find a show or two on one of these channels that I'll get into, but usually that's because of a specific actor/actress/writer/showrunner I really enjoy working on the show.

That being said, many of the new shows coming in the fall are not getting my attention. Part of that is probably because I'm reading synopses instead of seeing clips (which usually grab my attention better), but a lot of what I'm seeing/reading is showing regurgitation of previous work that is trying to adjust factors to make it more current/trendy. Lately there's a lot of "It worked before so let's do it again" thinking, in an attempt to get more viewership and ratings. What a lot of the powers-that-be are missing is that many people are giving up tv and watching shows online/hulu/netflix/etc. Since the nielsen ratings system is antequated and there isn't an established system for counting legal online viewing (the CW is apparently making use of their online viewing numbers to boost their ratings, as many shows pop up several ratings points the next day after the shows are online, but this doesn't seem to be happening at all the stations) the studios are working off of incorrect information, essentially. Therefore, they're making stupid decisions about what shows to air, which to not, and what shows work best in what formats. For instance, Cult on CW could've really taken off had they put more effort into making an online presence to extend the meta elements in the show and draw in the fanbase through personal interaction. That's what the whole show was about, after all! Basically, the stations stick with shows similar to what they've had success with in the past, copy shows that are succeeding at other networks, then get upset when they don't have viewership. For someone like me who is drawn into certain unique elements that can't be predicted in preview clips, sometimes it's just by chance that I come across a show that I like, and I'll often reject shows that I might like because I don't find something that draws my attention within the first few episodes.

As for Dracula, I read the synopses a few days ago and because you asked I just pulled up the preview clip. I think the idea has possibilities, but I'm worried it will fall apart. The vampire genre is so mutilated at this point that the original lore used is barely recognizeable. If Bram Stoker had imagined sparkling vampires, Dracula probably wouldn't have been such a compelling and interesting book. But there are now so many teenagers linking vampires with romantic notions of eternal love and battles with werewolves that trying to reimagine the genre back to it's original lore could fail. However, I think there will always be a place for dark, disturbed, and powerful vampires who use sex to control and blood to destroy. If they can draw in men with a violence factor and women with a seduction to the dangerous, it could do well. The success of period dramas recently will help, as Dracula will be set in the late 1800s. The question is, can they gain attention from period drama fans, stylized vampire fans, and seduction fans enough to get the ratings they need to keep it on the air?

As for me, I don't plan on watching Dracula. This could change, of course, but I don't like the premise behind it. I read the book when I was in 6th grade and saw the movie a few years later, which I thought was a good adaptation, but it didn't fully live up to it for me. I'm not interested in seeing a bastardized sexier version of it on my tv every week.

Yes, I'm a Vampire Diaries fan so this seems ridiculous. I wasn't fully involved in TVD until the end of the 2nd season (I kept watching, but not with complete interest) when Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gilles joined the cast. They bring a darkness (albeit incredibly dressed darkness when it comes to Daniel's character) and disturbing quality that is very enticing to me, combined with a somewhat unconventional sexiness at times and the suspense/horror that adds just enough adrenaline for me. I'm ridiculously excited for The Originals spinoff because it takes the elements I love and pumps them up to a new level.

What's the difference for me? The lore is different. I'm a fan of taking an iconic monster/character and bastardizing the lore to make it different. This is one of the reasons I enjoy Supernatural - the original lore is adjusted into something unique, creating a canon all its own. There's no regurgitation of previous success in an attempt to ride coattails. I need something that uses original elements in shocking new ways.

Sorry this is such a long, in-depth explaination, but I'd prefer to explain more so you get my reasoning than to have you feel like I have an arbitrary reason to dislike something. It's up to you to form your own opinions, and that could easily mean watching the first few episodes and seeing if you enjoy it. I've done that plenty of times; sometimes the show grows and I come to love it, but sometimes I find that an entire episode has aired and I can't remember a single scene from it because it didn't have my attention. In this case, I'm a fan of just a few period dramas that touch on eras I am fond of which include other factors I am very interested in. Vikings and Call the Midwife are 2 such shows. Sometimes I enjoy movies/shows set in the 1800s, but using the lore of Dracula but with the sexual and stylized elements of current vampire usage is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. If the show gets critical acclaim and significant viewership then I might give it a try later.

What other shows are you thinking about checking out next season?

Based on some of the articles I read, there was a downturn in the SPN ratings in season 6 and 7 (a lot of people have complained about those seasons, so I'm not surprised). So for season 8 the powers at CW teamed SPN with Arrow as a lead-in, hoping that Arrow would help boost the ratings. Now that SPN is getting closer to their previous ratings, and because they wanted Amell Family Wednesdays, they're moving SPN.

As for The Originals, I'm a TVD fan also but didn't truly love the show until the original family showed up and now I adore the series. The spinoff has been being worked on for almost 2 years, but they weren't sure the show could be sustained until the start of this year - after they decided to keep Klaus (the big bad original) alive against all odds for the 2nd time. Julie was then given the go-ahead by the CW to start putting real development into the new series. The backdoor pilot aired on April 25th and the next morning the CW announced they had picked it up. TVD is considered the biggest show on CW; the original family has gotten tons of attention (angering some fans who miss the original premise) and offer 1,000 years of possible storylines. Julie Plec (who has been showrunner of TVD since the beginning and will have a hand in The Originals, TVD, and The Tomorrow People next season) has said they will be doing crossovers now and again (ala Buffy & Angel) for the fans who ship certain pairs. This is made easy because they will be filming indoor scenes essentially next door to each other in Atlanta studios and outdoor scenes will be filmed a short ways outside of Atlanta in towns 10 miles apart.

Essentially, The Originals is expected to have great ratings on it's own, so I don't think that's why they paired them. SPN is thought to be able to handle moving to any night because the 'cult' fans will follow them to any night. I see the point of putting TO & TVD on separate nights with a day between, as having them back-to-back could dilute the idea of having them be separate entities. Monday nights are being considered romance nights. Friday nights are being considered fashion nights. Wednesdays are Amell Family nights. Splitting TO & TVD, SPN will be with one (they've already paired TVD & SPN before) and Reign will be with the other. TVD is expected to go back to its romantic roots, so pairing it with Reign makes sense. TO is expected to be more dark, sinister, and have a more adult feeling, so pairing it with SPN makes sense.

That's my thoughts about why they made the schedule this way.

I had prepared myself since season 3 for the show to end with season 5, so it is still odd for me that it's continuing well beyond that.

Well, some people have given up tv. Others have taken to illegally pirated video online. They're just starting to figure out how to add up ratings for the legal online video of tv shows. There are also more and more shows on cable channels (ABC Family, FX, etc) and premium channels (like HBO) that are getting attention. And the ratings are really only an extrapolation from a small sampling of homes, so they're not as accurate as they're made out to be.

Glad to know we've got a season 9! Far cry from season 1 when we had to wait until well after the end of the season to find out if there would be a 2nd. And incredible considering Eric said he only intended to do 5 seasons!

The good and bad part about the PCAs is that people can vote as many times as they want. So whoever has the most rabid fans who don't have jobs/school to spend a lot of time at end up being the winners. If you're willing to vote a million times, your favs have a better chance of winning. If you have better things to do, then it's up to others to decide. But in cases like the dramatic tv actor, they pit SPN fans against each other - Jared fans vs Jensen fans. If only 1 of the 2 had been on there then all the SPN fan votes would've been together. Same thing with Vampire Diaries. And since both shows are on the CW, anyone who doesn't like the channel is going to vote for the only person left. I feel like the rigged the voting on purpose like that, but who knows. I'm just annoyed and bitter about it.

Sometimes when a show is cancelled then the fans who loved the show, even if there aren't 'many' of them, they will attack award voting like this in an attempt to prove that the show shouldn't have been cancelled and should be brought back. It has happened rarely, but give a few rabid fans a shred of hope and they'll go crazy.

To be honest, many of the awards I didn't care about whatsoever. Or if I had an opinion it was a minimal one. Sure, there are several awards I thought went to the totally wrong person, but it is what it is. Like apparently Beauty and the Beast is getting a lot of attention, but in 6 episodes it couldn't grab my attention enough for me to put my computer aside and pay attention to it. Whereas I'm loving Arrow but it seems to be riding under the radar. Many shows I've loved over the years have been cancelled, ended before I thought it was ready to end, or even continued on after it lost its relevancy and direction. Who knows why network execs make the decisions they do; even moreso who knows why Nielsen chooses the people they use to create ratings, because 10 million people could watch a show but if few of the people who have a Nielsen box watch it then the ratings a small and the show gets cancelled. You'd think in this age of social media and extreme connected-ness they'd find a way to monitor more of what people are watching... at least what we want them to know we watch. hahaha

Thanks for posting that, Sheri

Some of the winners were surprising to me, Zac Efron, Adam Sandler?
It's kind of ironic that Leverage was voted favorite cable TV drama and it's now cancelled.
I liked that show.
On a similar note, I have been watching Emily Owens, MD on the CW and just found out they are cancelling that show after the next two episodes are shown. They only made nine for it's first season. I'm bummed, they had just fleshed out the characters and were building the story line.

People's Choice Awards are wrapping up. To see all the winners, go here:

Supernatural won:
Favorite tv fan following
Favorite sci-fi/fantasy tv show

Jared and Genevieve were shown multiple times during speeches, J2 presented, and both couples were shown on the red carpet before the show.

To be honest, I was really annoyed at the Favorite dramatic TV actor category. They pitted Jared against Jensen (and Ian against Paul) which splits the fandom vote. And anyone who doesn't watch Supernatural or Vampire Diaries is going to vote for the only one left. I think that was either a set-up to kill the vote or just someone being incredibly stupid.

If anyone reads this by January 2nd, there's 'best of 2012' voting going on at tv.com and SPN is in several categories. You can vote as many times as you want by clicking on the 'vote' button and then refreshing the page (the F5 button works with many programs so you don't have to keep moving the mouse). Some of the categories are tight battles, with multiple people voting over and over again, so every vote and every person voting multiple times makes a difference!

www.tv.com/features/best-of-2012/

SPN is in the following categories:
best horror/supernatural series (against Vampire Diaries)
most dynamic duo: Dean & Sam Winchester
most tragic character death: Bobby Singer

If you're willing to help with other CW shows:
Vampire Diaries is in the following categories:
best horror/supernatural series (against SPN)
best primetime soap
best villian: Evil Alaric (aka Evilaric)
biggest badass: Connor Jordan
most loveable monster: Caroline Forbes
best couple: Damon & Elena

Arrow is in the following categories:
best new series
best sci-fi/superhero series
best new character: Arrow

Now that they updated the website to match their sales, which started almost 3 hours ago in CST, I can say it is NOT on sale at Target - either in the store or online. It's still full price $44.99 there. WTF?!?! Idjits are missing out on some sales!

Instead check out Best Buy. Season 7 DVD is on sale for $9.99. They are sold out online though.

It is definitely $9.96 at Walmart though, as I bought my copy there tonight. And it looked like they had several other (maybe all?) seasons available for $9.96 also. Looks like seasons 1-5 are $9.96 online, as well as $10.96 for season 6 and $29.99 for season 7 online.

If anyone is interested in getting the season 7 DVD for cheap, Walmart has it on sale starting at 8pm on Thanksgiving night, for $9.96 while supplies last. If they run out before you get there, it appears Target may have it on sale starting at 9pm for $13, but as it's not included in the picture of samples it is not guaranteed, just expected.
