I have started filling up my "go to snack arsenal" with jerky, lite popcorn and trail mix instead of Funyons (anyone heard of) and licorice. The jerky has a lot of sodium. I just think that b/c it's straight protein it can't be too bad. My problem is that when I snack (even on the good-ish stuff) I eat too late. Theoretically, we should eat our last meal/snack 3 hours before bed. I think I'll go back to trying to drink lemon water to make me feel fuller in the evening. Tricky thing is that the munchies aren't always about actually being hungry. Got emotional blocks most likely. Ugh!!

Well, since that last post from me I've been the same, especially the hungry bit.

My doc suggested that I keep a food journal. Write down how I feel 30 minutes after I eat. Nausea, headache, energy, exhaustion, still hungry...

Hi everyone.
I'm losing weight. Don't exactly know how though. Which is a little disconcerting. But a son's a win so I'll take it.

So....

How are we all getting on?

Must admit that I've been eating chocolate again, which has led me to crave it again. The trigger was the stress that my daughter caused me when she and the grand kids stayed for a few days, then I've had incredible pain levels for the last couple of days. Yesterday was completely unbearable, I could barely move.

My pledge: NO MORE EXCUSES

Majority of my weight gain was from antipsychotics which I will NOT take anymore. I found that once I gained the weight I didn't lose it even after going off the meds. Worse one for me was Seroquel = 70 lbs.

That's not too high.

I was on 3 X 300mg and was losing weight (eventually)
It was when I was increased to 6 X 300mg that it stopped.

Other stuff can also impact like amitriptyline, cocodamol (due to constipation and bloating), tramadol can increase appetite, most anti depressants have weight gain / increased appetite as side effects as well. So it really is a battle to drop weight / keep it off. I did a short, online hypnotherapy course as my carb cravings were like having PMS 24/7 which wasn't at all fun. It helped me eat 'clean', and the weight loss followed. Then my Gaba was increased, I'm not eating anything extra, but my weight has suddenly stopped losing. I've decreased (myself, shhh don't tell anybody) it and I'm going to see what happens. If I don't start losing again, I'm going to redo the hypnotherapy course (it's downloaded so won't cost any more) and then see what happens after that.

The purpose of the above ramble (sorry) was to show that, despite what some people might say / think (and I was one of them I put my hands up in shame) that medication doesn't affect your weight, it's just lack of self will, are WRONG!! I've just proved that without a doubt.

It won't hurt to drop it for a while, just to see what happens.

Also what dose of Gaba are you on?

Thanks for the info. I am on gabapentin also. Since I weigh 225 lbs the nutrition tracker put me in a higher calorie range I guess. I will drop it to 1500 and see what happens.

Around 2000Kcal a day is the usual intake for a woman, not to lose weight. It's usually suggested that around 1200-1500 Kcal a day to lose 1lb a week.

Although I've found it a lot more difficult to curb my appetite when on the meds. and. when my gabapentin was increased the previous weight loss stopped.

How many calories (approx) are you having a day, if you don't mind me asking.

I was discussing with a friend how I should be a lot skinnier based on my caloric intake. Unfortunately, according to my psychiatrist, my meds and my bipolar both work against me slowing my metabolism.
I also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome so when I exercise I feel like I have the flu for 24 hrs.
Any suggestions?
