I am a new member to WW (end of September) and I absolutely LOVE to rack up Fit points, But I absolutely never ... use to counter too many calories ......... I just know they enhance the weight loss ..........Also, as to sodium ....... emoticon I made the mistake of eating "out" day before WI and scales went up 1# ........ (I knew better but the next day, was Sat and then Sun. I made up for it with a good workout each day and following my 30 points ...no more and lost a pound each day! ....

My breakfasts tend to be the same and lunches are much the same, but dinner is a fun time as there are so many WW recipes I love .... so offer variety .... emoticon

I do the same thing with the sodium. Sodium is just as bad as sugar for me.

A word on the Fit Points...I haven't been using my points. I generally get in about four miles of walking each day. When I started WW, I decided to track on Spark People and WW. My Spark People log is more accurate when it comes to my daily calories. With fruit counting as 0 points for WW, I figured I would need to buffer the extra calories that aren't counted. It can add up to 300-400 if I eat full sized fruit throughout the day. I decided that my Fit Points could be the buffer for the fruit. I realize fruit is healthy, but it still has calories, and when compared to vegetables it adds up a lot faster.

Just Believe!

I would agree and say you have to experiment ad see what works for you. Exercise definitely enhances weight loss. I would also agree and say sometimes bumping up smart points(calories) may encourage weight loss. I think this is process is sometimes an experiment to find what works for us.

This happened before I started, but I read in a forum post that when SmartPoints were first introduced there was no provision for eating Fitpoints. People complained because it didn't make sense - our caloric needs are different when our activity level is different - so now they "let" you eat back all but two or three a day. So I guess the official word is that you can use them.

When it comes down to it, though, it's completely individual. Your leader can give you the benefit of his/her experience, but we all have to figure it out for ourselves. I have it in my head to track more details and see if I notice a trend of how many weeklies/fitpoints I leave unused vs. whether or not I lose anything that week. Many Sparkies report that they lose weight when they eat a little more than they expected, so I'm wondering if there's a "sweet spot" that optimizes the deficit.

FWIW, I rarely finish all my weeklies. I've been following the program diligently since May and have yet to reach the 10 pound mark. So eating less than what's allowed is not a magic answer, at least not for me.

Interesting about the fit points, Amy. My leader encourages us to experiment with our "extra" points to see what works for us, so I wonder what WW's official stance is.

I do tend to gravitate towards the same meals for breakfast, lunch, and snacks because it's easier to track, but I am having fun experimenting with recipes for dinner. I like the challenge of figuring out how to lighten up our current family favorites.

I don't notice weight fluctuations with new recipes, but I do have trouble if I get too much sodium. I'll blow up like a puffer fish if I'm not careful. emoticon

I always use my weeklies but I don't use fitness points. A leader I have strongly encourages using the weeklies as this helps later in maintenance. She advocated not using the fitness points however.

I weigh myself daily. Some days I'm up but by the time I weigh in at my meeting it seems to average out. Although some weeks are better than others. emoticon

I have a question: Do all of you tend to eat the same type of meals or do you try new recipes etc? Lately I find the more creative I try to be I am not losing very well.

Happens to me all the time. I weigh in almost every day too. For your sake I hope you're generally losing faster than I am, but overall I find that those daily gains correct themselves. That's probably why they tell us we're only supposed to weigh in weekly. :) Gotta roll with those daily blips.

I think almost everyone uses the weekly points - that's what they're for. 30 points per day is considered the minimum for a healthy food intake. Few of us will keep to that for very long, so instead of adding to the minimum, we have an extra budget to use a little every day or all at once, whatever keeps us from feeling deprived. As we lose weight, the weekly points budget decreases.

Some people eat into their fit points also, but I think most use the weeklies up first.

I use them. Some weeks I use all of them and some weeks I have a lot left over. It depends on how hungry I am (thank you hormones), how active, and how well I'm eating (processed food doesn't stick with me as long).

I'm still getting the hang of it though, so I'm interested to see what others do.

Thank you both for your great ideas. We always pack a cooler but I tend to pack too much of the wrong things. I am planning on packing some fruit, cheese sticks, and nuts. For lunch I'm going to pack a salad for myself and a sandwich or two for my husband. That should offer enough healthy choices for the trip. BTW I love those cheese snacks too! emoticon

emoticon the message from ALLTHECUPCAKES ......... A cooler and planned snacks;
Also what I like to do BEFORE the day starts, is get my little booklet out and plan meals/snacks for the day ............then I know where I stand and do not fall off the wagon.
(The less I dip into those smart points --or extras, the better.
I also take advantage of the foods that are free ............an apple, banana, and a little applesauce help me curb my appetite and get through the day.

Have a fun trip! emoticon

Can you bring a small cooler? If so, I would pack string cheese and slices of lean lunchmeat. I would also pack fruit, cut-up raw veggies, almonds. I also bought these cheese snacks from my last WW meeting - they're only 2 points per bag and they're crunchy and surprisingly filling (they're kind of like a pretzel nugget).

Have fun on your trip!!

My husband and I will be leaving for vacation on Friday and will be in the car for several hours. What type of healthy snacks do you take when you travel? What do you do for lunch? I usually fall off the wagon when I'm on vacation and really want to stick to the program this trip. I'd love to hear your ideas. Thank you! emoticon

I think its ok to have a muffin-or whatever you like as long as you plan for it and track it. This plan is set up to teach you how to eat and factors in life situations. Having a treat helps to keep from feeling deprived and possibly binging. Just my thoughts.

Yes it did help and thank you ladies.
What I did today was plan my meals end points very carefully so they would balance out and also I just got back from a 30 minute swim of which are used nine fit points.
( But in the future I'm not going to eat a muffin especially now that I know better)
Thank you and have a great day everyone ...

I have 30 daily smart points. I have 35 weekly to use.
If I go over for the day, I subtract it from my weekly.
I just don't want to go over the 35 for the week because this may be a unhappy day at the scale.

The weekly points are there to use.....I try to use them, with only few over a day, if possible.
On a party day or day when I eat the wrong thing, It may be using Too Many, but that is why they give them to us, to use....
If it was me, I would just be careful the rest of the week, not to go past the Weekly number.
Hope that helps....

Today I went several points over....(Darn!......I bought a muffin @ a coffee shop......
Would you add some weekly bonus points to counteract
OR IF I had gotten a few Fit points, can they be subtracted at my high number?

I track first in a notebook each day and then add to E-tools all the foods I have eaten plus the Smart points. Works well for me. If I am out eating, I try to mark it down on a small note pad and then add to my notebook and E-tools when I get home.
I really think TRACKING and Exercise are the keys to losing the weight.

All the best to you and keep motivated. We should be helping each other and we can do it!

I carry a memo book with me in my purse to track everything I eat. Then I can use it to track it on spark and refer back to. I do much better on weeks that I track everything. I write down my morning weight, my goal weight and date I want to meet the goal and I try to write down an inspirational quote each day. Also jot down my exercise or any other positive or negative thoughts. I like that better than the weekly logs you get from WW.

If you click on the food, it will take you to a page where you can change the quantity or "remove from log." As for water, if you click on the serving size, you should get a list of other measurement options.

Have fun playing around with the site! I'm sure you'll be a pro in no time.
