My favorites are scrapbooking, card making, and anything I can find that is easy and quick to do as a craft! Also, like stamping for scrapbooking and card making!

Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee!

I don't really have any shows lined up until October. I was going to do one in August, but I don't know if I will have enough time to get ready for it. Work is keeping me busy lately... which is a good and bad thing. I was asked to bring some up my stuff to this one place where people go to that have cancer or are family members of people with cancer looking for support. They have an annual art show in October that I am involved with... but they are doing a summer display where 25% would go to their organization. So... I will probably do that instead of finding another show to do.

No... The plant stands didn't take long at all to make. The butterfly one took a bit longer, but it was so much fun. I never realized how easy doing Mosaic really is to do. I had wanted to try it for years, but I never had the time... or knowledge. I bought a few books which pretty much told me how to do it... plus for St. Patrick's Day my husband paid for a class for me to go to, which was awesome. I am still very new to the whole thing but I am going to dive into it head first!

Mosaic Plant Stand was a success. I only made two of them and they sold pretty fast. I charged $30.00 and the supplies that I put into them was about $8.00 at the most. I put a picture of it on my sparkpage!

Kathy, it's also great for Oragimi Boxes. Has anyone tried using the Fabric Samples from the books? There are a lot of ways to use them. Doll blankets, Crazy Quilts you name it. I used the matching paper samples in them for Wall Paper for Book Marks. Took the patterned scissors and cut them into shapes. Used a paper cutter to cut them to size then trimmed them all up. Really pretty.

Has anyone ever thought about using wall paper to
make greeting cards, some places that sell wall paper
will give the old wall paper books away to anyone that wants them, when the new books come in. There
are some pretty neat wall paper in those books. When
I had a chance to get some books I got 6 of them.
I think it's a gold mine, you can also use the paper
for decoupage it works great. I think that could
be our craft challenge for a couple weeks, so see
what you can decorate with some wall paper, sometimes
you can find wall paper at yard sales for really cheap. Good luck and happy crafting.

My husband and I went to Wal-Mart last night and we saw a bunch of case ironed planted stands for $4.97. I think they would be perfect to do some Mosaic on, so we will see if I can get them done by my art show the first weekend in May.

Thanks so much! I think they are pretty darn cute myself! lol The start up was kind of expensive, but I didn't think it was any more than many other crafts. It's getting hooked that gets expensive! lol I'm hoping to be able to sell some pieces to help feed my habit! lol

I had a few pieces on etsy, but they didn't sell. BUT again they were jewelry items, and etsy is flooded with those just like everywhere else. I want to try listing some of my polymer clay pieces there and see what happens.

I do crocheting, knitting, sewing, cross stitch, wood, and floral. I started doing craft shows about 3 years ago. There are about 3 that I do really good at. It irritates me also when the say on the application handmade only, and then everyone under the sun is there with resell items. For what I do it doesn't hurt me but I hate it for the other people. It is not fair. I live in a small town in NY. Not sure if I will be doing any this year with the economy. would like to have what others think of this. The crafts I have seen on pages are really pretty things. You are all so creative. Has anyone tried selling on etsy? Hope everyone has a wonderful day at crafting.

I think that poor planning can be blamed for many of the problems at craft shows. I've been doing shows for quite a few years and have found that the best planned shows are the ones that are organized by crafters. I'm a firm believer that if you have never set up a booth at a craft show, you don't really have the insight to run a show...unless you have gone to lots of shows or have talked to crafters.

I totally agree, the first craft fair I did was a small local school fair. There were about 20 tables...3 of which sold jewelry. They had us all in the same section forming a little triangle! It was crazy! I actually did pretty well at that show, but it was still very poor planning!

I noticed it's also harder to sell something when they don't co-ordinate spaces so that two alike sellers aren't next to each other. I've had a few like that, and the worse part was the organizers were like "We are making sure no two booths that sell the same thing are next to each other." =\

I do craft shows for a living and it is extremely hard to compete for sales with people who order from a catalog to re-sell at shows claiming it was handmade. Some shows really watch for that type of thing, but others just don't care. I think you may do better with the polymer since not as many people work with that medium. The key is always to produce something different that can't be found at 20 other booths.

That was how my last fair went. It seemed like every other table had jewelry on it. What was really sad was there was only one other table with truly hadnmade jewelry. The rest of it was mass purchased, and then resold, or they were party lines of jewelry. So I'm hoping that since there was little to no polymer at the last shows I've been to that mayeb I'll have better luck going with that medium.

Every time I do a craft show I take a walk around the booths and do a mental count of how many crafters there are and what they are selling. In the past couple of years, the number of crafters selling jewelry has tripled. Even crafters whose main craft is something else, seem to dabble in jewelry and have some on their table to sell. In talking with people whose main craft is jewelry, they tell me that sales have gone down quite a bit because of the "jewelry explosion." It is extremely difficult to make any money if you are at a show with 30 crafters and 20 of them sell jewelry. Sometimes people running he shows will limit the number of duplicate crafts they allow into the shows. but most times they are so anxious to get that booth fee, they don't care.

Well atleast you came out ahead...even if it was just a little. Coming out on top is always better that not! I have done a show with an outcome like yours. I am trying to decide if I want to do it again this year. The last one I had nothing but jewelry. I am thinking about focusing more on my polymer clay work with a touch of jewelry thrown in. I don't know about your area, but mine seems to be flooded with jewelry. I don't recall seeing much if ANY polymer clay work last year.
I wish you luck at your next show if you do one!

Looks like I haven't told you all how I
did at the craft show I did on the 15th. Not as good
as I hoped for but I did make the cost of my table

Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee!

Thank you Jadzeamay. I really do like quilling and since I don't have any children at home I can work on it when ever I want, I would like to turn it into a business, so far it's not going to good. I have
sold over 250 cards since I started this last year in
Feb or March. I'm doing a Craft Show on Sat so I hope to do really good plus I have some other things
besides the cards. Pray for me. Kathy

Thank you and thank you for adding me as a friend. I have learned over the years that you can make something nice out of mistakes, that you don't always have to tear it all out.

Yes Keri, it is. I stole the name from my granddaughter in the picture. Of course she isn't a baby anymore but that was one of my many favorites.
I too taught myself to crochet many years ago. It is so easy once you get your stitches down pat. Always remember to crochet in the last stitch at the ends of the rows. The one that is the initial chain for the preceding row or your piece will be lopsided. I don't know haw many thing I had and still have to tear out because of a mistake and at first, that one was my biggest. Also, when you are reading you pattern as you go along, make sure you see the commas etc. or you can miss something. I also for some patterns, like to take a couple of paper clips and a piece of paper and put them across my book just under the row I am working on so I don't have to keep counting my rows or get confused as to where I am. Did you see the Sleeveless coat, dress, booties and bonnet on my page? The coat was one of my mistakes. I was working on it and got crossed over to the dress part and then back again and didn't notice until I had the puffy sleeves crocheted on. I didn't want to take the sleeves off and redo them to a smaller size, so I left them and mand a sleeveless coat. LOL. Sometimes all you have to do when you make a mistake is readjust and go from there.

Jadeza May (I hope I spelled that right),

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have a "Teach myself how to crochet" kit from Walmart. I need to dig it out again. His mom also is close by and can help me.

I have one of her brother when he was about 15 months old, throwing a rock to me. Caught the beautiful smile, lit up eyes and the rock, mid air.

I never have but I had a whole box of quilling supplies and a few books. Sold them to a woman in another State as I thought they should be used. Lots of nice colors and supplies. I really think the finished product is just beautiful. Will be watching for you to get your page up and running so we can come and visit. When you do, post some pictures of the completed work so we can see. PLEASE!!!

Keri, you can do it, it's easy. You will get so you can just whip along. If you need any help, just yell. I was at the Coast for a Craft Fair last weekend and a Grandmother and her Granddaughter stopped and we were talking and the GM said how her GD wanted her to teach her how to crochet but the GD was lefthanded and she just didn't know how to teach her right. I told her to just sit across from her so they were facing each other. You could see the light go on. They were really pleased.

Beading, silversmithing, playing with my torch, crochet, sewing, soap making, drawing/painting - basically have played with most things and always exploring new ways of playing with color.

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

I love crafting in general...there are so many I'd like to try. But for now I mainly design jewelry and work in polymer clay. In the past I have done scrappbooking, rubber stamping, card making, cross-stitch, painting and several other. I also love to bake and read a good book.
Deborah

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes
Because that is the doorway to her heart.
The place where love lies.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
---I believe this quote is attributed to Audrey Hepburn but I'm not sure.
