no, not leukemia-she had a form of bone cancer & my other friend had breast cancer. My first friend said the Univ of Texas are the ones who asked if she wanted to try it, it was still in experimental stage.

Lobo,
Did she have leukemia, too? Right now they will not let him take any herbs for fear they will interfere with the chemo.

Just got back & saw your post. A close friend of mine who has gone thru alot of this & is now doing better than before she got sick. She said this last treatment series of chemo included curcumin. Apparently the Univ of Texas has been experimenting with this & she said once she got off chemo she continued to use it along with cat's claw. They can both be bought thru health stores. She gives this combo lots of credit for being cancerfree this last year & ahalf. Hope all is better for your DH. We have put him (and you)on our prayer warriors' lists.

Thank you. The low dose chemo works to give more time to those who have the disease. It was originally hoped that for his age it would give him 9 months to a year. However, for 20 percent and perhaps more (as this treatment has only been available for 2 hears) it has been known to put it in remission. We are hoping and praying for that.

I am so glad to know he is doing so well - considering how dire it seemed in the beginning.

PS To my old SP friends - It's been a very rough journey... My beloved, healthy, athletic, tall, dark and handsome husband died in August 2012 from a very aggressive cancer... In the many months caring for him I was stressed and didn't "care" anymore, and put back on 30 pounds I had just finished losing... And then I gained even more...

A short, but very sweet, video tribute to this beautiful man:

That is what my dh keeps telling his doctors. They say he is responding better than a person his age should. He told them to forget his age and forget what is "normal" for his age! He was in good physical shape before this.

The news now is another 5 weeks. He is responding well to low dose chemotherapy and it is working remarkably at this point against the leukemia. The doctor does not want to send him home between these treatments this time because he cannot get him to where he needs to be to fight off flu, etc. that is out there this time of year and he thinks it is possible that this treatment could either put him into remission or come awfully close in the first 2 rounds. He will need up to 5 treatments to give him the best chance. He has been in the hospital now 41 days and is sure wanting to come home, but the positive aspects of his blood tests have convinced him he needs to stay and give this treatment its best chances.

I love your words here -affirming to her that he is an individual - not a statistic.
Wonderful!
Such a great team!

I KNOW ONE THING THEY HAVE DONE, IS TO TAKE THE PATIENTS BONE MARROW AND REMOVE, THE CANCER CELLS.
THEN THEY TAKE THE HEALTHY STEM CELLS AND REGROW
HEALTHY BONE MARROW. THIS IS AN AUTOLOGOUS BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT, THE PATIENT ALSO, GETS HIGH DOSE
CHEMO, THEN THE PATIENTS OWN HEALTHY BONE MARROW IS
TRANSFUSED BACK TO THEM, THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE, WHEN
A IDENTICAL HLA MATCH IS NOT AVAILABLE, MUCH SUCCESS HAS BEEN ACHIEVED WITH THIS TREATMENT.. I WILL CHECK OUT OTHER TREATMENTS AS WELL, DON'T LISTEN TO STATS, AS YOUR HUSBAND IS NOT A STAT HE IS A PERSON, AND MANY TIMES THE STATICTS DON'T APPLY TO THE INDIVIDUAL.

Dillionsbeach, it is acute myeloid leukemia and he went through the first round of chemotherapy that had a 50 percent chance of putting it into remission and it was not successful. He opted for the low dose chemotherapy and just finished it. They will keep him in the hospital to build him up before they send him home. He will likely not be home for Christmas. The chemo seems to be working better this time around and then of course we can also go back to the high dose if he gets built back up. His problem is his age though he is very healthy for his age.
If you have any information on treatments please spark mail me. I would be very interested.

I know 2 people that have recovered from leukemia, if others can recover so can he. What kind is it ?
acute or chronic, if your doctor is negative get a new one. People survive leukemia all the time, I work
in the lab and read and report the slides. best wishes and prayers for you both.

Hello, Everyone. I need everyone's help. Some of you may know that my dh went into the hospital Friday with Leukemia. The results of his tests came in today. He has practically no normal white blood cells.

He was given 2-6 months to live without treatment and a 50/50 chance of living a few more years with treatment (chemotherapy). The kicker is that he has a 1/3 chance of not surviving the first 30 days of chemotherapy. We had high hopes until today. He has opted for the chemotherapy because he says we have always fought our way through life and he didn't want to go down without a fight.

This is not just my husband but much more. He is my best friend, too. He is the one I love and confide in. The one I rely on when decisions must be made. He is there when I need to talk things out. I really need this man!!! I will be broken without him, and I think irreparable. He can fix anything but this. He is all I have. Please pray for him. Please put him on every prayer list you know of.
