Congratulations! I just completed Diva Bay Area and loved it - my first half marathon as well. Finished within targeted time 2:41:16 and felt great. I chose to run the first 3 miles since there was so much momentum then started my run 3 min./ walk 1 min. tempo and it carried me well to the end. Said I'd never do another but after this experience may change my mind!

Enjoy the miles! Tricia

Congratulations!!!! I did my second HM yesterday and can't stop smiling. Even when I was walking slower than an unmotivated zombie several hours later, I couldn't stop smiling.

Congrats! I still need to write my race report from the Diva.

As to recovering:
If you have a foam roller, use it. Lots of leg stretching today. A bath with 2 cups of epsom salts (water temp is your choice) is a good thing. Keep on hydrating.

Congratulations, Half Marathoner! Although you may be sore today, I know you are turning cartwheels in your mind. What an accomplishment! Woohoo! Make sure you are still hydrating because your muscles are craving it right now. You could walk a little, but don't go out like you're doing another race.

Be sure to listen to your body. You've been in the training, which allowed you to make it happen. Now, try to relax and enjoy!

That's awesome! I'm about to run my 1st HM in June :) As for your aches and pains...elevation hot and cold every 20 minutes where it hurts, sounds good to me. Also, Take an Ibuprofen. Congrats again, Woo Hoo what a great feeling right? I can't wait! :) Hope you recover fast!

I did my first half marathon as a walker March 31st. I also had the same experience in that my practice walks tended to be just under a 16 minute mile with the distance. Then in the real race I did a 14.55 minute mile average. I was surprised as heck. I knew I was going faster, but not that much faster! I mean, my 5Ks are faster than that, but not be a lot.

Next day, my advice is maybe some light stretching and such, but let yourself heal. A nice bath, or icing, etc., pain killer. I was sore the day after my race and yes, I did do a light exercise day, but I walked it and was probably less sore than you are.

I知 really glad I chose the Divas as my first run. It was a beautiful location and it was fun to see all that pink. I did so much better than I thought I would too! I知 still pretty new to running and normally I do an average in the mid 13-min miles. And that痴 including even shorter runs like 3 miles. I finished under a 13-min average! I知 completely sore and exhausted today.

Any advice for today would help. Unfortunately I didn't really do my "homework" on what to do afterwards. I do know that I should go for a walk or light jog today, but my right foot is hurting and all I can do is limp :(
