I just wanted to come back and comment on your pacing observations. When I ran my first 5K, I was so freaked out by all the people zooming past me from the start. It was a really hilly course, so I just stuck to my pace. Sure enough, I got to the top of a big hill and all those sprinters were standing there gasping, or walking! I trotted on by. It was a big lesson, and I am glad you reminded me of this! It's such a mental game, but you can't let the other runners in your head!

Good job!!!

Mary

Thanks so much for the update, and congratulations!!! You did GREAT!!

Mine is tomorrow, temperature is supposed to be 38 degrees at the start, raining off and on. So I have my under armor compression tights and nike dry fit long sleeve top (it even has little flaps to go over my hands!) all ready to go!

And, good job...I would be thrilled with your time, too!

(unofficial- no chip timing) finish time- 2:23:17!!!

My goal was 2.5 hours- so I'm MORE then thrilled that I beat my goal by almost 7 minutes!!!

It was tough- the first few miles I felt like I must be running so slow, EVERYBODY was passing me- but I reminded myself of how far I had to go and kept at a steady pace of just under 11 minutes (I train at 12 for long runs- so I'm super proud I was able to knock more then a minute per mile off that pace for the race). Luckily I didn't try to keep up at the beginning- cuz right around mile 6 the early sprinters lost their steam and I was the one doing the passing :)

Weather was nice- forecast said rain, thunder, lightning, so I was a bit worried about that... it was a little chilly at first but about a half hour after the start the sun came out- half way into it I was wishing for some rain! haha. Ended up a bit sun burnt since the sun was a surprise- but not too bad.

I did take a wrong turn at one point- but luckily I heard someone yelling for me before I got too far- tiny bit embarrassing and I do wonder what my time would have been if I hadn't wasted those few minutes. But oh well.

The run was through 3 small towns in the desert- so not much for scenery, and the towns have tons of beef and dairy farms so the smell was so not pleasant, but I didn't care, I was doing the dang thing!

I was proud at the finish when I hit my sprint for the last 100 feet or so and the announcer said I had the best sprint she'd seen in the day :)

And to top off the awesome race in addition to a beautiful finishers medal I won a gift card to Road ID! Sweet!
