There are definitely some differences. Dr G believes that all dairy (not only dairy fat) is bad for health -- especially for, but not limited to, autoimmune disease.

He is not anti-fat or anti-meat. I tend to eat vegan 3-4 days a week, but I eat meat other days and I don't limit that to low-fat meats.

I've been posting about it here. It might be more than what you want to read, but ..., just in case you're interested. www.msworld.org/forum/showth

Actually we can have skinless chicken or turkey breast as well. keep all fats below 40 grams and saturated fats 15 or less- but yes non fat dairy as Dr Swank believes that dairy fats are very bad for MS patients. After a year, you can add other lean meats- but continue to watch symptoms and keep it to less than 4 oz a week. I only do wild caught fish and organic fruits and veggies and whole wheat products.
I only just started last week- so not an expert by any means.
Dr Swank wants you to rest 30-60 minutes a day- and reduces stress- as we all know that causes problems. I am hoping that it helps with symptoms- and weight.

I'm not a Swank-er. I'd be interested in following your experience though.

It looks like people who follow the Swank diet are encouraged to consume lean fish, non-fat dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

I started seeing a functional medicine doctor last summer. He encourages no wheat, no dairy, no cane sugar. He emphasizes organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed beef, free range chicken, wild caught fish.

He also does an IgG food sensitivity test (an expensive blood test) to determine which additional foods I am sensitive to. And teaches lifestyle changes that reduce toxins from my environment, reduce / manage stress, etc.

We should compare results. Please keep me posted.

Anyone here doing the swank diet. I just started. I know it is actually a lifestyle and designed to eliminate symptoms, not to aide in weight loss- but since I have started I have lost 5 more pounds Was hoping there were more "Swankers" on here.
