When school is in session, I find it easier to have a routine, once summer hits, we loosen things up a bit. When school is in, we waked up around 7:00am,make coffee, cook breakfast unless the girls want to eat at school, drive my girls to school by 8:00, come back home and have another cup of coffee, read my meditation for the day, check emails, get ready for work, depending on my mood/pain level I will walk after work, come home, make dinner, take shower, tidy up kitchen, do 15 minute declutter of a space, check facebook, get ready for bed 8:30 in bed by 9:00pm, try to sleep if not watch a movie then fall asleep.

My summer routine revolves around my horse, cats, art, and indoor plants. I do barn chores daily, and typically do some ground work every couple of days. Every couple days I ride my electric assist bike to the barn. Almost every day I do some art project... right now I'm participating in a postcard poetry event - and I do little paintings on the cards. We've just got past what we call the 90 days of March (even some snow in July!) so it's warming up... and that means there are routines around opening and closing windows at night and in the morning to conserve temperatures in the house. The cats are very fond of the enclosed porch, so I get reminders about opening and closing that area from them.

I don't have a routine in the summer really... but I do when school is in so I will post that....

525: wake up and wake up my son for the first time...start my coffee

530: wake my son up again and he gets up this time...go back and get my coffee, take my morning meds and while he is in the shower I get on facebook and watch tv

645: walk to the road to catch the bus...bus comes between 655 and 705...after the bus comes I go to my parents house and cook breakfast ( I live directly behind them...like if I could actually throw an rock I could hit their house close....lol)

8:00: depending on my pain level and how I slept I will help my mom feed up...we have 4 horses, 4 ponies, 3 dogs and I think 23 chickens...

830: I go back home and try and start a load of laundry and do at least some dishes...I then lay down and usually either rest or nap

11: get up and finish the dishes and rotate laundry....take a bath in essential oil because I am stiff from resting

12::cook and eat lunch (I usually make a big lunch more like what most cook for dinner)

11: rest again

330: walk back to my parents because when my son gets off the bus he goes to their house to check in...don't know why he won't check in at our house but he won't....

430 usually come back to start dinner...light dinner for me and then something for him...he has Aspergers and very rarely eats the same thing as me....

530: dinner dishes and if I have the energy pick up the house a little bit (my mom usually helps me on the weekends clean the house though)

615: another bath in essential oil cause by this time I am hurting again

715: facebook and tv

800: take night meds and give my son his medication

830: bedtime for my son

9 or once I know my son is asleep: I turn the tv off and attempt to sleep...I can't sleep in a bed...it causes me massive pain...so I sleep on my recliner couch in the living room

I do keep a fairly regular schedule and have some of it programmed into my phone.

I always wake up by 8:30am(with my alarm)--when I am manic I often wake up earlier and take a walk while it is still cool.
.
Take meds at 9, most often nap at 10 to counteract the meds.

Work or write or surf the internet or Netflix depending on how I feel and if work exists. (Been trying to get more since my contracts are non-existent

11-2pm option of going swimming (after taking a bath in sunscreen).

Alarm goes off at 3pm for afternoon meds.

Repeat work/write/internet/Netflix till dinner.

Once it cools off I work in the garden or take a walk--with the dog and (now) Pokemon Go.

Alarm goes off at 9pm to take meds.'

Bed at 10pm, since I am tired from the meds this is rarely hard to do.

I live by my alarms.

I had a good routine going during the school year, but much like way back when I was in school, once the year ends, routines go out the window. Thankfully, the new year starts soon, so we'll be back to a routine again soon. The upside will be a more concrete bedtime. And 5 blissful hours where I will be able to actually accomplish something besides breaking up fights.

So.... routine didn't go as planned. I woke up at 9, had breakfast, and then went to sleep again. Then I woke up at noon, wandered a bit and then went back to sleep. I finally forced myself out of bed at 4 PM! and now I'm going to cook dinner soon. I wasn't tired all day.. I just wanted to sleep. I'm going to try to go to sleep at a decent hour tonight.. my father in law is coming over tomorrow around 10 to try and get our car going again.

Nancy- It may seem I have a lot on my plate, but I have to keep busy to combat depression. If I'm left to my own devices (like today) I just sleep and get nothing done. If I plan to get a lot done, but only manage some, it's more than I would have done if I didn't have a plan. *hugs*

I was trying to build a routine, but then I started getting depressed and sleeping all the time. I need to get back on it. In bed by 9, talk on the phone or other calming things until 10, asleep by 11 and up at 10:15 am. Shower, go to work, come home, take a nap, make dinner, eat, and then night routine again. It's almost 9 pm, so I think I will go to bed now and try to start that routine again.

I thought we could discuss routines this week. What is yours? What has been the most helpful part for you? Do you find yourself "lost" when not having one? Read this article and discuss the points you agree on and those you disagree with.
