Hi all!

I hope evryone is gonna have a nice weekend. I find that I'm more of a homebody now, My hunny is too. Maybe its because we are older and have more aches and pains. Also one of the get togethers we went to, they had there smart phones out, I so hate that, they kept looking and texting on them.
I feel bad, that I can't talk to my adult kids about being bi-polar. I know they have some ups and downs too, but They don't want to hear it....they said i don't need the meds...ya, I'm stable now!

Nuff said

Cherie

I was on a medication, with a side affect of weight gain. Doc said I can stop taking it. I,ve cleaned up my eating, am walking, I did this before, I can do this again!
Spark will help!

Hi everyone,

I hope that you all had a great June and that July will be even better. The 4th is coming up, so fire works safety is a big issue for some. Have a safe and happy July 4th by using common sense and obeying the rules for setting off fireworks. I have several family birthdays that come up in July, so I am looking at parties and the get-togethers. These can be times when our bipolar lifts its ugly head. I have an aversion ( mild word ) to crowds and lots of people. In general I usually isolate with one or two people that I trust and know well when we have get-togethers. Summer can be a tricky thing for those with bipolar disorder. I have a tendency to escalate in the summer time. The weather is great and the sun is out, so I naturally gear up during the summer time. I will have to have a medication review and change to help accommodate my manias. I don't know if anyone else has noticed such behavior problems in the summer time. I am not adverse to depressions that follow the manic episodes. I will work closely with my prescriber and my psychiatrist during the summer months. Normally I am more manic than depressive and most of the time they are a positive experience, but they are still manias and I am in grave danger of going over the edge if I don't watch my anxiety and bipolar triggers.

Larissa,
I am so sorry that you have been having such problems. I can relate to some of your experience, since I have felt that badly before. Medication changes can wreak havoc with your head. I hope that the Haldol shot and meds work for you better this time. We all need our medications to work efficiently. I'm glad that you posted and that you are feeling better. I have a ton of emails to answer too. I don't have the excuse of feeling ill or being depressed. I just don't have the time to read and answer all the emails that have come in the past three days. I have over 460 emails to respond to. Many of mine are political news emails that I get from many, many sources. I am active in the politics of the day and they help me stay connected to what is going on with this upcoming election. It is my project of choice to help me through the summer. Sleep is a funny thing. It can be helpful and harmful when you are bipolar. Bipolar depression is so different from major depressive disorder. I think that it is more intense and carries a bigger stigma. I hope that you will start to have a good summer and that things work out for you the way that you want them to be. Sending you positive energy and hugs!! Take care and God bless, Deb

Sorry for being gone for so long... I have been depressed and haven't been checking my email since it seems overwhelming. But I'm feeling a bit better and have started working through my mails until I can get it all organized. I miss you guys... I know you support me, but I have just wanted to isolate. I wake up to my alarm at 10:15 am and take my pills and I feel good. Then I go back to sleep (which I know I shouldn't) and wake up later feeling like crap. I told Geo to kick my butt out of bed when my alarm goes off so I can feel better... I just love sleep but it's changing my mood.

I was having severe problems on Risperdal (which my doctor switched me to instead of Haldol) and so I went back to my doctor and he asked me if I had ever had the shot of Haldol plus a small dose in the day and I said okay. So I go to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said that she didn't want to give me the shot until my doctor responded, since I'm allergic to Thorazine and Haldol is similar, so we waited for my doctor and he never responded. So I went to another pharmacy and got the medicine. Then I took it back to the clinic and got the shot. I bruised and the area was sore. I don't know if it was the injection or if it hit a blood vessel. It's over a week later and it still feels hard under my skin. I see my doctor on Friday and I will ask him what he thinks. The shot is working... I'm not hallucinating as much and my moods are pretty stable (as long as I get up on time, if not it takes me a couple hours to feel better) and so I want to continue on it. I hope my (general) doctor takes a look at it and says it's okay. I see my psych next month to get another shot (it's monthly) and I want to be able to talk it over with him as well.

Hi all!
I've been taking my meds at 10 and usually wake-up at 745, Been having problems with my leg, hips and back, so I almost always wake-up at 330 every nite. But then I take 2 advils and a muscle relaxer and I'm able to fall back to sleep.
Been off Lithium for about 3 months, my hunny says, its like a fog lifted off me! I feel that way too!
Have a great weekend! Cherie

I'm with you, JUSTPEACHYGA. Bed by 10 and up at 7... not that I like being up that early, but that's what I've become accustomed to with Xena being in school. Still mostly on that schedule, though I'm finding it's harder to actually fall asleep by 10 with it being lighter out.

Mentioning sleep :-) I have to come to the conclusion and embracing the fact that I just have to go to bed by 10 PM. I naturally wake up at 7 AM. It appears 2 nights going to bed after 10 can really get me jacked up! At first I was like "Great! Another bipolar nuisance." Now I am just accepting it and realizing the consequences if I don't adhere to it. The only problem is that means I never get any alone time with hubby. I talked to him about this and he has agreed to us making time for an afternoon together at least 2x a month.

It's hot over here! I'm selling at a garage sale right now and hunkering down in the garage with my daughter. I've gotten a few bites. Hoping to sell most of the big furniture pieces mostly.

It wasn't really cold here today either - low 60's - but I was wearing my sweat shirt too. Our cloudy weather came with scattered showers all day today. We are supposed to be cool with showers for the next several days. We won't have a showers let up until around June 17th or so. I am so not looking forward to cloudy days from now until then.

Larissa, you are doing a lot better than I am with your sleep. I can't even begin to fall asleep if I don't take my trazodone. I only take 75 milligrams a night, but I still wake up during the night too. I take Mirtazipine along with my trazodone in order to sleep better, but while I can get to sleep fairly well and I will sleep for about four hours, I am usually up several times after that a night. I am always up by 4:00 am no matter what kind of night I've had.

I will mention again to my psychiatrist that I am not staying asleep all night at my next medication review. She will probably up my Trazodone to 100 milligrams. We'll see. I am hoping that increased activity on my part will lead to better sleep and a medication change won't be necessary.

Woohoo! Horray for sleeping without assistance!

Not to say it's cold here, but I didn't keep the Windows fully open in the car today, my air conditioner is turned off, and I wore a sweatshirt when we were outside in the backyard this evening.

It's funny... with all the rain and clouds we have here it feels cooler, but it's really in the 90's. It's nice out.. maybe I can talk Geo into going to the pool.

I fell asleep last night with nothing but my regular meds. Normally I take 100 mg Trazadone and 1 mg Klonopin, but I didn't need them last night. I'm happy about that :)

It's beginning to cloud up around here. We will have rain by this afternoon per the weather report. However, right now it is perfect. It is only in the high 60's here today. Big change from our 90's earlier in the week. emoticon

We are going through hell here.. it's a heat index of 104. The coolest we are going to get in the day is 85. I have to get to the gym and get on the treadmill. Our car is semi-broken.. The A/C doesn't work and the windows don't go down, so we have to suffer in the heat. That makes us want to stay home and be lazy.

Hi everyone,

I am so sorry to hear of everyone's health problems recently. It is tough to be in bed when the weather out is warm and inviting. Of course, here it has been in the 90's and that is entirely too hot for enjoyment unless you are sitting at the river or by a pool. My ex daughter in law has just bought a house with a pool in the yard. I can see myself over at Meghan's the entire summer if we are going to continue to have such hot days.

I have been picking up my slack since coming home from the hospital last week. It really threw me off being in bed most of the week. Thankfully, the medication has worked and I am feeling much better and getting stronger every day. I will be back to the gym on Thursday of this week. Like Justpeachyga, I hate the cardio machines at the gym, only for me it's because I don't know how to use them very well. I need instruction, so I am going to save up for three personal trainer sessions. Once I have the means to afford someone to show me how to use the machines the correct way and develop a routine, then I will be much happier. I feel as if half of my gym experience is wasted, since I am not making the fullest of every visit. I babysit my five year old grandson during the summer, so I can only make it to the gym very early in the mornings three days a week. My daughter has Thursday, Sunday and Monday off, so those are my gym days. I haven't gotten back into the gym since my hospitalization and I am looking forward to Thursday. At least I will be able to get back on the treadmill or the elliptical sometime soon. I am beginning to lose inches if not a lot of weight, but the scale is going down despite my inactivity. I know this because of my hospital stay. They weighed me daily, so it was nice to see the scale drop even though I wasn't exercising. At first I thought that it was just water weight, but I have since weighed myself once I got home and the weight loss is holding. Due to the hot weather lately, I haven't had much of an appetite. It's kind of hard to try to eat while you are sweating in upper 90 degree heat. I have mainly been eating fruits and cottage cheese for supper and to snack on during the day. This is not a major change for me, since I have always had a lousy appetite in the heat. I have been buying berries, bananas, apples, carrots and spinach and I make smoothies. I naturally eat lighter in the summer time. I just can't eat heavy meals in the heat. I haven't gotten back into tracking my food every day and I need to do that. Tracking helps me say no to sweets and bad choices. If I can see how I am eating every day, then I can better develop a program that works for me and gets results.

I hope that you are all having a wonderful week. Make it count ! Take care and God bless, Deb emoticon emoticon

I didn't want to weigh myself for 3 months because I was scared that the scale would tell me that I had gained some more weight. This past Sunday I weighed myself and I had actually lost 9 lbs! For once, a happy number. I really feel like this new approach is helping me tremendously.

I don't track my food but have had a lightened appetite in the morning and I don't keep sweets in the house but I've slowly started bringing them back but in small quantities. I gave up drinking mocha's every morning because I would then have one in the afternoon as well. Tracking my food was putting too much pressure on me.

My focus is much more on doing what I love and just wanting to be healthier in general instead of doing it for weight loss. I discovered that the reason the gym wasn't successful for me was because of the cardio machines... I hated them! Found them boring even with a TV show to watch. I also hated the gyms because I wanted to do weight training exercises but their setup was intimidating and I hated having to keep track of my reps, weight, etc. every time. Well, I started to change that all up. I now walk outside at local parks that are dirt trails with elevation to them and keep a pretty fast that way and do that for 1.5 hours. I joined Planet Fitness which has the awesome weight workout room where it is pretty much a "stop and go" light system so I don't have to track weights or reps, just go for 60 seconds and then move onto the next machine. I look forward to these workouts now!

Anyways, for once, I think I've found a solution for now.

Well, as of this morning, weight wise, I'm back up to 190 lbs, which I was 187 a couple weeks ago. But I have been on semi-bed rest because of my back/hip, and then I spent pretty much the entire weekend in bed because I have a BAD sinus infection and probably Bronchitis and have been on cough, cold, allergy meds galore. I so hate being sick and I can't see my doctor until tomorrow morning. It's so warm here in Virginia Beach. I wish I could enjoy it.

Not a template. I just traced a small plate on some construction paper for a head, popped on some googly eyes and pipe cleaner antennae, and drew a smile. The body sections I traced a large mouthed glass onto contruction paper, and they get one for each book they read with the title and author listed on it. Just something fun to encourage them to read more on their own rather than just me reading to them.

I FINALLY got to donate platelets at the blood bank. I have tried so many times I have lost count. I'm anemic so I had to learn how much iron I would need to have, and then take that level of iron again when I donate again. I feel a bit bad,,, I was getting dizzy so they stopped me. They said it was more than fine, that I was almost done anyway. Still I feel a bit guilty for not finishing.

Audrey, can you send me a template of your book worm? I think my little sister in law would love it (she's 6). She likes to read and I think it would be a great help to her. You are so smart! *hugs*

Hi everybody,

Thanks for the welcome home wishes, ladies! I am sooooo happy to be out of there!! I am not a big hospital person myself. I am rarely sick and to be admitted into the hospital is even rarer. I do think however, if I had to be admitted this weekend would be better than last weekend was. This weekend we are enjoying heat in the high nineties, low one hundreds. We don't have air conditioning, so hydration is going to be very important. I do like the sun shine, but maybe a tad bit less heat would be nice.

Audreye, your summer reading program sounds fun. It would be a great activity to do with my seven year old grandson this summer. Making book worms would be cute!! I have every intention of taking him to the library regularly this summer, because he is really beginning to read well. I want him to develop good reading habits and enjoy reading as much as I do. The library is a great resource in the summer time, so Blaine and I will go to check out books every two weeks. I haven't checked to see what program our local library may have this summer for his age group, since the kids are just getting out of school. However, I will check on that this next week.

Micah is misbehaving,so I need to get off the computer for right now. He is five and is quite a handful today, since his mother is going to be at work. He has way too much energy today for a day that is going to be so hot. He must have slept great last night, because he is in a stellar mood this morning, but he is being difficult, as well. I have to go feed him and get him straightened around for the day. I hope that you all enjoy your weekend!! Take care and God bless, Deb

So happy to hear that you're starting to feel better, Deb. I hate hospitals, enough to the point that I got myself discharged ASAP after having each of the girls.

Today I'm going a little nuts. I'm doing my own little summer reading program with the kids. We're building bookworms, where they each get a new section of body for each book they read. Well, Xena earned her first section last night, and I know I cut a bunch of circles out already and I put them in a "safe" place, so of course I can't find them.

I'm glad that you are feeling much better, Deb! The only time I have spent in a regular hospital was when my appendix was removed. I didn't really like it, but I had no choice. Yay for Deb coming home!

Thank you Nancyrubio! I intend to take very good care of myself after this intimidating experience. I think I was more freaked out about going in than coming out. At least I have medication that was sent home to help assure me of a complete recovery. I appreciate your concern. Deb emoticon emoticon

You soon like you are doing well. I would be in a deep depression by the time I got home. Good for you. Get 100% better, please.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry that I haven't been around the past week or so. I just got out of the hospital where I spent the past four days or so. I have actually been home about one day and it sure does feel good. I had a nasty, acute cellulitis attack and they had to hospitalize me it was so bad. The whole right side of my face was badly swollen, hot to the touch and bright fire engine red. It started to go to the left side of my face, as well. They decided that they best place for me was in the hospital for antibiotics that could only be given by IV. So, off I went. My daughter brought me my laptop in the hospital, so that I could keep my sparkstreak alive. However, I didn't feel like doing much Sparking while I was there. I did do some, but only the bare minimum. I am out now and feeling much, much better. So, let me catch up with what this thread is talking about.

We went to my grandson's pre school graduation on the 18th of May. They got out of school on the 23 rd of May, so now I have him full time for the summer. The kids were so cute in their cap and gowns. The party was outside in the school courtyard, so it was a beautiful evening. There was cake, ice cream and punch. Volunteers made three, three tired cakes for the guests to have. It was a very nicely done ceremony and I was very proud of our little man.

The next major event for me is Father's Day. I will have to figure out what to do for my son. I will enlist the aid of my daughter for ideas. I have no clue what to get, since he already has everything.

As for weight, I can tell you exactly what I weighed at the hospital. They weighed me every day. I was at 140.3. Which for me is a five pound drop too. I had no trouble eating healthy in the hospital, so I wasn't tempted by desserts and things that get to me here at home. I made sure that I only had lean meats and salads - no potatoes or anything at either breakfast, lunch or dinner. Salads were good with balsamic vinegar and oil salad dressing. I am hoping to lose another five pounds this next month in June too. I am highly motivated, since my hospital stay and realizing just how lucky I am that I am in mainly great heatlh. I felt terrible for some of the people there who were my age or younger. It really made me appreciate what I have. emoticon Deb

I'm not sure where I am weight wise. My scale broke, so I'm just going to rely on doctor's visits for now. I've been active enough though I think... maybe. Not enough intentional exerccise, but trips to the amusement park make for lots of walking. I missed out on swimming last time we were there. They closed the pool down right after we walked into it. I'm impatiently awaiting my parents to put their pool back up.

I need to go swimming more! I lost 2 pounds in 4 days! I"m down 232.0 today! I was 237.6 at the beginning of last month and so I lost almost 5 pounds! I'm proud of myself. How are all of you doing on your weight loss? I thought I was going to gain more weight since a couple of days ago I was at 234.2 and didn't think I could get back down into the 232's. Swimming is awesome!

Graduation was good. I only had 1 piece of cake, some fruit and veggies. And punch. Not too bad.

My school in 8th grade had a graduation. We had gowns but no hats. Here schools go from elementary school was K-5th grade, 6-8 is middle school and high school was 9-12 grade.

I'm feeling good today... I went swimming with Geo in the morning, ate some lunch (peanut butter sandwich) and then took a nice nap. Geo and I are getting along which is always good... I'm just happy with my life right now :)

Here we are in June! The weather is getting hot and the sun is out and not hiding behind those dismal winter and early spring clouds! It sure puts a little extra pep in your step, doesn't it?

Today's a big day in our house. It's Xena's Pre-K Graduation Day!!! They still have school till Friday, but this is definitely a huge milestone! When I think back on everything we had to do to find a Pre-K to take her (sometimes it really sucks to not be in poverty), and the year just flew by so fast! I'm so proud of her! And also a little sad for her, because I know she's leaving all her friends behind (they are either in other school districts, or in different schools within our district).

What exciting things are all of you celebrating this month?
