Had a bad first time full ledged panic attack.
WE did our usual haunting nnad I drank 5 beers and after watching incidious 2 the movie...I was all freaked out.
very afraid and clinging to jeff.
I was afraid of every thing. it was awful.
slept with the lights on. jeff helped me but I took a zyprexa 15mg that I had from 2008. I thought what the hello I need to calm down. I hope it was not a psychotic episode....
It worked and zonked me out I was in bed until 4pm. I guess I needed the sleep.
I am feeling much better.

I had a really bad day yesterday... Geo and I had an arguement over something minor and he flipped out. He literally packed his bags to leave. He has never done that before. I was so scared I would lose him. But we talked and worked things out.. I just need to get my act together. His birthday is Halloween so we will be going out to dinner... I don't know what I did to convince him to stay, but I'm just glad he is.

I was talking with my therapist today saying I don't like playing any kind of game because I'm a sore loser. So she challenged me to start playing games with Geo (who loves video games and can thrash me in Street Fighter) and get used to losing. This way, if I lose something big it's not as hard.

I had a good time on vacation... got to go to the Sears Tower and they have this thick glass floor that extends past the edge of the tower and you can walk on it and look down 110 stories. It was free, but I'm terrified of heights. I forced myself, on hands and knees, to go beyond the edge of the building. I would have regretted it if I didn't do it, so I did it!

I try to eat as healthy as possible. I lose weight when I don't drink alcohol and when I follow a lowish carb diet, mostly meat and veggies, avocado, berries or an apple at night to snack on. in addition to nuts and seeds.
At night, I have been drinking a glass of milk with the trazadone as it was irritating my stomach...like it says on the bottle!

I think my neck is better today and I slept in today until 945 and got good sleep!.
Just did my stretching exercises, supposed to do them 5 times a day.
He wants me to use the ice pack that he sold me...I don't like cold so probably will not use that unless things don't approve. He never mentioned taking anything for pain like advil etc. or for the anti inflamatory properties.
I already take tumeric.
I guess I should call on monday. I am to see him next week again.

Today we vote on 16 different positions....
Geesh and there will be run offs later next month. sigh

Jeff is gathering up house hold/hazardous waste. They accept it today until 12 noon.

It's funny how different meds effect different people, isn't it? I was taking Medrol and it made me hangry (that's hungry+angry). My husband and daughter were looking at me like I was possessed.

That's good to hear!

I've been taking prednisone and augmentin since Monday for a sinus infection. Thankfully, the most adverse effect I've noticed is a decreased appetite and a little extra motivation. (She says after devouring a cinnamon raisin bagel smothered in apple butter and a quarter of a king size Hershey bar w/ almonds, thinking she's too lazy to wash this one plate and knife... and do I really need to shower before bed?)

And on that note, I have a few windows to close out here and then bed is calling me.

Now that I'm off the steroid, I feel pretty good. I was so darned cranky while I was taking them. They really messed with the effectiveness of my mood stabilizer and antidepressant.

It has been a relief to finally get the diagnosis. I feel like some new vistas have been opened up where previously there had only been a maze of dead-ends.

I am trying to exercise and eat well so that when I start taking Seroquel I'll have some good weight-management habits already established.

Could you use another bottle where you put the nite time dose of klonipin in by your tooth brush to remember to take it. I am a visual woman and need the visual to remember to take my meds.
I think .5mg would be enough to sleep. I used to take 1mg though. for years and never had to increase it.

I go to a NAMI support group meeting 2 times a month and have met a friend who is also a nurse and bipolar. It is nice to finally have a friend who gets what I am going thru.

Bizi - It sounds like you're doing really well right now minus the RLS. I've been using Klonopin for years now for my anxiety attacks and my therapist just suggested I try taking some to help me sleep after catching on to the fact that I really have not been sleeping well. I generally just blame it on my kids but it appears to be a bit more of an issue than I thought. Only problem is I keep forgetting to try taking it. It's one of those things that stays in my purse till necessary.

Inari - In my experience, no, most people aren't going to notice you're bipolar, unless of course you're spending lots of time with them. You have to see all the highs and lows of it to really catch on. However, the one thing I have found is that bipolars are magnets for other bipolars. It is crazy how many random people come up to me and start conversations about being bipolar. I was sitting reading a book while my husband was getting his wisdom teeth removed and one of the other patients started talking to me about trying to get her meds regulated and how many times and how long she's spent in the hospitals on psych evals. And I feel like anyone I've ever immediately "clicked" with turns out to be bipolar too. It's almost nice to share that common bond, as frustrating as it may be sometimes. But it's comforting to know that you're not the only one and that even though it sometimes doesn't feel that way, you can still lead a pretty normal and productive life.

Welcome, Inari! There's definitely an adjustment period when you've just been diagnosed, but you can also think of it as finally having answers to some important questions. That mindset helped me get through the shock of it when I was first diagnosed. Each state has different guidelines for Medicaid. You may be able to find more information on your state's department of human services website. Best of luck to you! I hope you enjoy the board. emoticon

Hi, All! I am recently diagnosed and new to the group. I hope to start Seroquel in a week or so. I filled my prescription yesterday and it was odd to talk to the pharmacist and realize that she would know that I was bipolar. I walked down the street toward home and was thinking, "Does it show? Can people tell just by looking at me?" I know the answer is probably, "No." However, I have a lot to think about. I took half an Ativan last night and got my best sleep in years. I slept for 10 hours! I usually average between 5 and 6 hours.

My next task is to try to get an appointment at a local medical clinic that can help me get Medicaid. Is there anyone here that give me any advice or tips on this? I would appreciate it! emoticon

I have made some med changes in the past 2 months.
Switching from klonipin to trazadone for sleep...which I am having restless legs syndrom having a hard time sleeping. I m down to .12mg of klonipin and 200mg of traz. at night. The restless legs came on with each decrease in klonipin. It is very frustrating.
Decreasing my anti psychotic, geodon from 160mg a day to 80mg a day.
Increasing lamictal from 200mg to 300mg.
I am definitely different.
I feel more in tune. I am paying closer attention to things. I am responding/talking more naturally/freely. My social anxiety issues are gone. I feel like I am feeling more emotions...and relating to people better. And taking more pride in my appearance. Pressing my uniforms...curling my hair.

However...I am still noticing that I am easily distracted when driving...looking at all of the signs on the side of the road...noticing every one of them...really looking at them.

Hubby said he did not notice any difference in me...
I guess that is good.
I don't think I am hypomanic...just different.

Hi, am new here...not new to bipolar1..... 20 years diagnosed.
I am 52 years old, no kids 2 cats...Hazel and Hattie.
Married to Jeff for 19 years.
Am self employed...am a foot care nurse, giving pedicures to the elderly in their homes. Have been doing this for 15 years.
I love my job.

I'll do that. Right now my daughter is dead set on a pitbull at our local SPCA. It seriously has to be about the ugliest dog I've ever seen, but she loves him for some reason. Definitely hesitant on that one because I don't know how he'd be with 2 kids and a cat.

My therapist today told me I should get a dog. I wonder if my grandfather would be less averse to the idea since it's "prescribed treatment". I love her treatments... they also include going to concerts and getting tattooed.

And since you like to volunteer, you could see if any of your area rescues need dog walkers. That way you can get some steps in and help out animals while they wait for homes.

Is there anywhere you can go that has an indoor track? You can check places like universities, rec centers, gyms, etc. You could even walk the mall.

I have trouble meeting my step goal too, and mine is just 5,000. Unless I go to volunteer, I normally don't leave the house. I try and go for walks, but it's either pouring rain or blazing hot (I live in Miami). It should be cooling off soon so I can go for my walks again. But if I don't work, then I average 1,000 steps. My apartment isn't that big. If someone has any ideas, I'm open!

Down 15.2 lbs today. I had a great walk yesterday and improved on my average speed. It's getting easier and easier to maintain a 3 mph pace for longer periods. I averaged 2.94 mph yesterday. I'll take it!

SAD is being held at bay, for the moment, thank goodness. The only thing making me feel meh is a respiratory virus that's going around. My body is still managing to fight it off much more effectively than it usually does, though.

I gave up on my step goal... but only because my flex band broke and I know I have 4 spares around the house somewhere, but either the kids or hubby moved it, so my fitbit is sitting sadly on the desk. Sad to say also that I remembered to weigh in on Sunday but found I gained another 2 pounds. I think it's stress eating.

Generally if I'm trying to buy love with food I go the homemade route as opposed to buying it. I tip my tattoo artist in baked goods, lol. It does get me a good price at least. Of course it doesn't help my waistline since I wind up eating them too.

I'm at 226.4 today... I'm slowly going back down. I keep sabotaging myself. I'm trying to get serious, but I keep slipping up. I want to blame my meds, but it's just poor choice in food. I'm almost broke and I spent all my money on fast food. I have a friend who showed me that I'm co- dependent by trying to buy Geo's love with food. I have to talk to my therapist about what she thinks.

The other day I was down to 209. I don't know what my weight is today. I'm waiting until Sunday to weigh in again. I mean, my highest weight was 236 lbs so 209 is good, right? At least for now.

I'm doing good... I took a 2 hour nap and feel much better. I was supposed to go volunteer but my boss never called me. We are having a big breast cancer fair on Tuesday so they need someone to stuff the goodie bags. Tomorrow Geo has a doctor's appointment so we are going to see how much weight he has lost. A couple weeks ago he was 457 pounds, and so hopefully going to have lost a couple pounds more. I right now, am 226.8 pounds. I got down to 223 then totally sabotaged myself big time.

My SAD has kicked in, so my doctor increased my Effexor dosage from 1 pill once per day to 1 pill twice per day. He left my Lamictal alone since I've finally hit the right dosage level. So far, so good. After 12 years of searching for the right mood stabilizer/antidepressant combo, you don't mess with a good thing. I've been much more active, but have a habit of napping late in the day as my morning dosage wears off.

I have an appointment to see my therapist tomorrow and I don't have my new insurance card yet so I don't know what I'm going to do. she wants to take a look at my poetry book and go over it. This is the book I was using when I was at my worst. I don't feel a lot of those emotions anymore but I still don't want to talk about it. But I know that I need to face it. I celebrated my father's life yesterday- it was the 19th anniversary of his suicide. I was always Daddy's Little Girl, so it hit me the hardest. But Geo made sure I had a nice day. Today was nice,too. I just hope I can see my therapist tomorrow.

Too chilly for me today. It's making my joints ache. Went to pick up my script today only for them to tell me that I can't refill until NEXT week. I really have to figure out what my daughter did with my pill bottle. I have to herd my kids home now (we're at my parents') so I can wrap a present for a birthday party my daughter has tomorrow to attend. And right now, I'm just wiped out.

I'm actually looking forward to enjoying some fall weather. It gets cooler outside, but not cold, and it's much easier to go running or walking when it's not hot. And I'm training for a few races, so that helps me a lot. Not liking this awful weather we're having in Virginia Beach right now, though. It's so nasty out! And no one around here knows how to drive in the pouring rain!

I am feeling a bit better though. My doctor changed my med from Latuda to Depakote and I seem to be doing better on that. And I joined a gym this week. Went and did 45 minutes of strength training this morning. Feeling the good kind of sore!

I definitely have the SAD kicking in now with the fall. We had a teaser this weekend up until Tuesday... BEAUTIFUL weather. Now the past 24 hours have been cold, overcast, and drizzly. I heard them say on the weather update on the radio this morning that we're officially done with all the summer weather. emoticon I do keep hearing really good things about the sun lamps, and have been urged to get one, but since we live with my grandfather, anything that gets plugged in has to make it past him. He doesn't want me turning on lights the way it is, much less bringing in some special lamp.

I'll gladly come visit you in Miami. emoticon But maybe I'll wait until after this hurricane passes at least. Land locked seems to be the way to be right now. And the river is low enough, I don't think I have anything to worry about besides maybe some flash flooding closing Xena's school.

Can you believe it's already October? There have been Christmas stuff in the stores since September. Time is flying! Soon the days will be shorter and that can cause depression. Try your best to get in a bit of sun everyday or a sun lamp. I hear it works wonders with those people have Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'm lucky I live in Miami so I get more sun and less cold... anyone wanna come to take a break from the cold? LOL. I'm going to Chicago soon and it's going to be cold... I have to pull out my winter clothes. How are you guys doing? How does Fall affect you? or just feel free to post whatever you want! *hugs* to all!
