Checking in. I'm picking up some crystal light for the weekend.

Also, I returned to Weight Watchers. So far, I feel like that accountability plus this accountability will get me set. One week: 2.2 down. Now to keep it down and maybe a touch more. :)

Started back to run/walking, which is great so far. I really feel stronger without forcing my workout.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Amanda:

I'm a firm believer in Crystal Light. I get the generic store brand, but it's very good and I haven't noticed any mood changes. I drink it a lot... I get the 2 quart pack and it lasts me about 2 weeks (a 6-pack of powder). I think it's safe, at least for me... try something small with sweetener and see if you get any bad reaction. It's in everything, like diet Coke. *hugs* I hope this helps!

Ruthie: I replied to your Spark Message with my email. Thanks again!

Good morning crew-- just got in from my second walk/jog in 3 days. I'm hoping this sets me up in a positive flow. Hoping to avoid the manic. :). About to down a plethora of water and my "good morning" tablets.

Just wondering ---- does anyone notice mood/eating changes when using Crystal Light or other faux-sweeteners? I'd love to get some lemonade or other flavored water action. Thoughts?

Hi Amanda! I hope you have more time to spend with us! I hope you are doing okay and going for walks. I love walking, but right now I have to rest my foot and can't walk. It's just temporary... until I get the clearance from my podiatrist. I see her on June 3rd. She's really nice... I hope that I get cleared... She said there's nothing physically wrong with my foot besides some inflammation. Oh well. It could be worse... it could have been something that needed surgery. I'm just glad I will be able to walk again soon.

Hey Girls,

Just a quick note to say hi. I've been out of the loop as I've been busy. Now school is out, my kid is off to "Camp Grandma", and I'm getting up early to walk tomorrow. Yeah for summer!

I can't walk,either.. I'm trying to give my foot a rest so it can heal. I have been walking on it for a while and it still hurts, so I am trying to just rest. I see my podiatrist again on the 3rd and hopefully I will be cleared to walk again. I just can't do anything while I'm healing.... no volunteering or anything. It sucks. I don't want to get into the mindset that all I want to do is sit at home and be online. I've been sleeping a lot lately... I need to get up and get a life. My friend Lisa wants to start her own business cleaning houses and offices and wants to hire me. She said she would be understanding about my depression, since she knows about it. She just hasn't seen me when I'm in one of my funks. Oh, and we are going to get our hair cut this week. My hair is getting longer (it's very short since I donated to Locks of Love) and so I want to get it cut. it's just a short style, I don't know how to explain it. I just like it short for the summer.

Hey Larissa - good to hear from you. We must chat on the phone soon. Seems like we have different schedules. I don't like calling you because I know you deal with minutes and I don't know when you would be sleeping either. Call me about 8:30 to 9:30 pm and we should be able to catch up. It rained here today. I was up early and tried to walk but have a huge blister on my toe somehow! Not sure how that happened. Anyway, can't walk today or tomorrow because if I break the blister it will be a bugger healing up...... wawwwhhhaa Take care all!

I have custom othrothodic insoles that my last podiatrist gave me. I haven't gone to get new sneakers.. I want to go to a store just for running shoes where they do all those measurements. I know of one that was recommended by the trainers when I was trying to do the half marathon. I will get them when I get a bit more money saved. I don't blame you, Ruthie, for having the air on... I would be dying in there too. *hugs*

Hi guys. Well, I am back today to check in. I am all well now and am back to my walking for the last 3 days - yeah! The weather is hot and muggy. I have to go at least by 9:15 or it is just too hot to walk. Janet (my son's girlfriend who lives with us) has this "thing" about leaving the back of the house wide open, door and windows, then leaves the door from that room to the rest of the house wide open too. So, we are running the air in the house with doors and windows open. Dumb......... Well, so I went back there yesterday and it was HOT and muggy back there. I said something about how hot it was and she actually said to me "well, we have to suck it up with the heat to keep the electric bill down." OMG! I have tried not to say anything, but that was too much.... I replied to her that she was not saving us any electricity with her having the air off back there with the doors and windows open, that it is much more efficient to keep the house closed up with the air set at a higher temp than to wait until the house was really hot and try to cool it off......... (well known fact). Sorry, just couldn't bite my tongue to her comment. She implies that I am wasting electricity by having the air on in the house, but damn it! I am NOT sitting in the heat of +90 and 90% humidity all day! Geesh!

oh, well, other than that just busy with crochet and playing computer games and watching shows on Netflix. Saving my money and paying bills (I ran up credit cards with my redecorating and ect). I had really wanted to buy tickets to see Susan Boyle in concert, but really couldn't justify spending $70 on a ticket. I have to pay off the bills I have accumulated...... Oh well.

Larissa - about your foot. I was having all kinds of trouble with hurting feet, and even broke a bone in my foot walking in loose shoes (even though they had good support, they were still sloppy slip-ons). I ended up spending $100 on a GOOD pair of sneakers with really good support (they like "cradle" my foot with support). I found that Brooks had a really good shoe for me. That really made a huge difference. My feet don't hurt anymore and I certainly haven't broken any more bones. It was worth the cost of the shoes. Compared to what I spent on medical bills for the treatment and workup, it was a small price. As well, my feet don't hurt anymore and I can walk and get exercise! Think about it......... I went to a sports shoe store where they evaluated my feet, and tried on different shoes and used their experience to choose a good shoe for me. They even had a treadmill to walk on to "test" the shoes out. It was worth it........... just a thought

Have a good day all! emoticon

I've overexerted myself. I've been doing the stairs at work and yesterday walked from 22 up to 27 and then down again. My husband says it looks like I've hurt my hamstring. Really sore, but I still came to work (this is an achievement for me - my normal reaction would be to skip work!!)

Anyway, its the 5km fun walk on Saturday. I don't think I'll be able to do it emoticon .

I am definately a morning person. Am in bed by 8:30!!

I have my good days and my bad days. I've been crashing from hypomania and just want to sleep. I have been sleeping a lot and that's bad. I did see the podiatrist today and she says there's nothing wrong with my foot other than some swelling. I can't wait to be able to walk more.. it's something that calms me down and makes me feel better.

I had a friend like you who was a morning person. She would get to work at 6am and work until 3-4 pm. I'm a night person. My favorite shift to work was 4pm to 1am. I just like night.

Hi Larissa, it's great that you can do something with your time, even though you're on disability.

It;s 06h30 here and I'm at work already. I like coming in early because then I can do quite a lot before the others arrive.

Hope you have a great day.

I volunteer at a local low income clinic. I'm on disability, so I need to find things to do to keep me busy. I can't put in many hours, but I try my best. Some days I just can't get out of bed. Today was shaping up to be one of those days, but then Lisa called me needing help so I got up and went downtown with her to get her a bus pass. The place was *empty* We were in and out in less than 10 minutes... the last time I was there I waited like an hour or more. We were just lucky. Other than that my day was okay... I have a bit of a migraine and just don't feel well.

Thanks, Lee! I know it's hard to changing sleeping patterns, but I have to stop waking up so late on days I volunteer so I can put in more hours. I'm trying to get my old life back. My therapist was happy with my progress. Yesterday, I walked to the clinic, went to volunteer, walked home, then went to the grocery store and even did laundry! I had a productive day and I'm happy.

I really battle to get up in the morning and try to think of a reason not to get up and go to work. I've now marked the calendar with all the days I'm off work (its normally once a week). Anyway, I'm now in my third week - with no days off.

I stopped taking my sleeping pills but have had to start them again since my husband got his cpap (sleep apnea machine). Its really noisy and I can't sleep unless I've taken a sleeping pill. I'm trying to take only half but I know its important to get the right amount of sleep.

I try not to sleep during the day as if I do I can't sleep at night. Larissa, I hope that you can adjust your sleeping patterns.

Thanks for checking in, Ruthie! I was wondering how you were, but I only seemed to think about you at night after you have gone to bed. *hugs* Sorry you were sick, but I'm glad it didn't spread. Geo is sick, so I hope I don't get sick as well. I'm going to try and volunteer tomorrow if my foot is up to it. I was at Lisa's job at the church and stepped on lots of uneven grass. I really want to go... I need to get out of the house. I need to get back to my original plan- wake up at 10, go to the aerobics class at the gym at 11:30, go to volunteer at 1 and then come home whenever and cook dinner, watch TV and go online and check my email, and be asleep by 11. Now I stay up until midnight and sleep until 1. I need to adjust my sleeping habits. I used to be good with 10 hours, now I'm sleeping 12-13 hours a night. I need to learn to go to sleep earlier. Speaking of which, it's 10:45 so I should get off and go to bed. *hugs* to all!

Hey guys sorry I have been MIA from here........ no real excuse, just not motivated. I was sick with a cold for a week and that really wonked my routine. Tomorrow is Monday, so back on the wagon! Get up early, walk, watch the calories. I lost weight when I was sick, don't know how that happened. I just laid in bed for days keeping my germs to myself and not the kids. Luckily it worked and they didn't get sick. Anyway, have to go to the dr in the a.m. as well too. I really need to get paid. I am soooo broke! I wanted to get tickets to the Susan Boyle concert, but the cheap ones are gone already and I can't really spend $60+ for the ticket.... :( oh, well......... take care all!

*hugs Nightwings* I'm sorry you are having such a rough time. I'm here for you if you need me. Just send me a message and I will give you my Skype or Google Chat names. I can't imagine all the pain you are in, and if there's anything we can do to help, just let us know!

Yesterday was so frustrating. I was supposed to get an MRI of my foot to check to see if there was any damage, and the doctor wrote 'ankle" instead, which means they didn't even scan the problem area. Not to mention that they changed my appointment late Sunday night so there was nothing I could do about my transportation (I use the van from my insurance company) so I was waiting there for 3 hours! Normally I like that place, but I don't think I'm going to go back there for an MRI. Last night was wonderful, though... Geo and I went to a live stream of the Sony presentation for their new games and systems, It was so much fun! People were clapping and cheering as if they were there at the seminar and not in a movie theater. I got home around midnight and crashed. Today I saw my dentist about a hole in my tooth and they said that they have to get insurance verification first. That, and I need a deep cleaning that's going to cost me $400. I might do it one quarter at a time so I don't need to pay the full amount at once. Just more reason to save money!

I had this nice reply yesterday and then I totally forgot to post it before I turned off my computer. Basically just *hugs* to those who are going through a lot, and Geo and I on our date to the Sony E3 (electronics expo) conference was fun. I've been sick a lot and have only managed to do a bit of exercise. I'm down to 213.2 and 212 is my goal for the month.

Hi Lee, glad to see you back. Sometimes, for me, having a busy schedule helps keep me focused on good food and emotional choice. Sometimes, meh.... Not so much. Have fun on your 5K.

Fingers crossed for Geo. My understanding (from my step-mom-in-law) is no soda after the bypass (made her barf). She had it done about 11 years ago. It helped her get smaller, which for her isn't exactly healthier. It's good she lost weight, or she wouldn't be able to get around like she does. I really wish she'd make better food choices. It would help my father-in-law a lot. Not that he can't make his own choices, he totally can and does. It's just that good is a much touchier subject there. :)

Alright, got my breakfast tracked and my abs done this morning. Let's tear today up!!

Amanda

Holding thumbs that Geo has lost weight and can go for the surgery.

I've completed one assignment - have two more to go. I normally do the entire assignment at work but this one has a lot of reading. So I'll have to take it home with me and see if I can go through it this weekend. I have a busy weekend as it is. I'm taking part in a 5km ParkRun (I'm actually walking) and then I'm going to my Son. It's his birthday. Then I still have to do all the washing and house cleaning - not sure how I'll fit everything in...

I'm doing okay today.. had the day off, so I slept for a while. Tomorrow is Geo's doctor appointment... I hope he has lost weight. He and I haven't been eating fast food a lot like we used to, and he has been swimming a bit. He's trying for the gastric bypass surgery, so he has to lose some weight to prove he's serious. He still drinks soda, but he knows he has to cut it out. He's addicted to it though... like seriously addicted. When there is no soda in the house he gets depressed. Sorry to make this all about Geo, but that's just what's on my mind.

My goal weight is actually 80kg but I've set it at 90kg so that I can break it down into smaller chunks. The idea of losing 20kg seems impossible, but 10kg is not that bad!

Had a good weekend only regret is that I didn't do any exercise. I'm excited because I'm taking part in the ParkRun on Saturday (its 5km) - I know that I'm not fit but I'll take my time. Just want to complete it.

I'll be working on an assignment today (3 more to go). Can you believe it that I'm studying at the age of 46. I have to do the course so that I can advance in my career.

Have a great day everyone

Checking in:
Past week was in pole shifting. The transition was worse than usual. I am a rapid cycler, with ultraradian cycles from time to time.

Today I got labs back from Saturday. I have non psych illnesses that I deal with as many here do.

My doctor called away, the tests were in. I am sicker than I have ever been in my life, and nothing we are doing for that disease is working. I see a specialist in 2 weeks, but in the meantime, I feel scared, and defeated, and right now, I just want to cry.

Just wanted to share: I found a team called "Spark your body". There's a 7 day workout and 28 day workout. I'm excited to try the 7 day workout - once my allergies clear a bit more.

Anyone heard of or tried it?

HI All - Just a quick check in... Had a great day with the Mini-Me. She and I just had a lovely day just us. Took the bus downtown, went to the Library, she bought her first "big girl purse", had lunch out... so relaxing. And my allergies are totally kicking my booty. I'm breaking out in hives all over my body. ICKY!! Off for some benadryl and bed. =)

Happy day to all.

Hey all! I'm doing okay.. my foot is still hurting, and I have my MRI tomorrow and I get the results on Thursday. I think my podiatrist thinks I popped a ligament or tendon. I hope I don't need surgery... I don't know what I would do if I couldn't go for my walks. They are my depression battling and exercise at the same time.

Okay, I just got back from my walk. I did a mile in my normal time of 21 minutes. I shaved a few seconds from the last time. I'm all sweaty... I think I'm going to take a shower. I will be back later!

Hey everyone - sorry to be gone all week, but I have a cold for 5 days now. Still coughing and stuffy nose today - am in bed because I would spread too many germs if I was out in the rest of the house and get the kids sick. Have been playing on the computer, crocheted a spa basket this week and watching Netflix...... A new season of Orange is the new Black series. It was terrific! Great show. Also on it's way is season 6 of True Blood. Love that series too..... Take care all! hack hack, sniff, sniff emoticon

Yeah, I'm not suppose to nap either. But some days, it's an emergency. :)

Also, I found a couple of great free self-hypnosis apps that I listen to as I'm getting all snuggled down. One is from Darren Marks - relaxation something. I'll have to look at my other one later.

Last night we went to a baseball game for the Girl Scouts. The girls were invited to stay for the fireworks and camp in the outfield. All the troop leaders left (including me) and other parents stayed with the girls watching Princess and the Frog on the "megaton" until like 1 am! Yup. I'm glad I slept at home while DD/DH had that adventure. :)

Total side note: you probably heard about the SPU shootings. Totally scary. My husband works 3 blocks from SPU and was texting us updates. We (my daughter and I) were at a friend's house playing in the backyard. Her house is about 3 miles to SPU. We were glad to be in the backyard and away from the street and windows. Some college kids down the hall from us (at SPU) said they knew the "hero" guy as a very mellow and low-key guy. They are nervous for him about this whole "hero" label. Like its almost too big for him. Poor thing.

Frankly, I hope the mental doctors (that we allknowand love) are able to "decipher" why the shooter guy did it. I hope they get some insight to help people NOT do this again. :-(

Alright-- I'm going to do a few things before my posse gets back. Happy weekend. -- Amanda

I used to be able to sleep through anything, but it's harder now. I lie down for a nap and then just can't sleep. At night, my body wants to rest, but not sleep. I was having Geo take away my phone at night so I don't talk the night away. Last night I took my phone back to listen to relaxing music. The radios in the apartment don't get music, just static. So I use my iPhone to listen to music. I've been trying to get to sleep before midnight and it's hard training my body to do that. I used to take naps for 2-3 hours plus 12 hours of sleep. I need to learn how to wake up.

My Psychiatrist advised me not to sleep during the day at all. I'm starting to get used to it but must admit that the bed does call me. If I sleep during the day I battle to sleep at night even though I'm taking a sleeping pill. The worst thing is that my husband wakes up at 4am and then as I'm a light sleeper I wake up to. I try to get back to sleep but am never successful.

Larissa-- do I ever hear you on the sleeping!! I usually get 10 a night, then fight to not take a 2 hour nap in the day time. I do not need it, but I want it - like more than cookies: I want naps. Also, through therapy, I've figured out some of my napping is a way to "reset" emotionally, which is very handy when I'm crabby and don't know why. Though, napping is also a procrastination method when I'm super stressed out.

With my daughter and husband, we all use "time outs" when we are emotionally vomiting. Very handy. "Time out" isn't always a bad thing. It's just a term we use to get out of whatever situation we are in, so we can break and come back behaving more appropriately. Sometimes I want to give my clients a time-out because I can't create miracles from mayhem.

Off to bed for now. Amanda

Amanda, I know what you mean. I absorb Geo's negative energy when he's mad. I just go to my room and calm down and he goes for a walk until I calm down and call him to discuss the issue. but I do mirror the emotions of people around me. It can be a good or bad thing. Sometimes I wonder if I have a true self or if I'm just a mix of those around me. I guess it's something I need to talk to my therapist about. We are starting out doing CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and just dealing with my problems and getting up out of bed on time. I just love sleeping. I sleep for 12-14 hours a night. Even me with my defense of me sleeping late I know it's too much. I need to get back to about 10 hours a night. It's just so hard to get up, but I know I can do it.

Hi Lee,

It's good that he's out of the house doing something, anything. Sometimes that "change of scenery" does the spirit good. -- If you end up not finding a group like NAMI there, please let me know. I've become friends with some girls in my chapter. I could ask them for a direction to send you. =)

No running for me yestarday or today. I've been sleeping sitting up in bed, rather a wedge of pillows and blankets. Good for my nasal action, not good for hot flashes. I'm hoping to get a run/walk in tomorrow before the day gets nutty.

Also, I had my talk-therapist meeting yesterday. I was a little loopy from Benadryl, but all in all it was a good session. We've been talking about boundaries and "absorption of emotions" from other people. I don't really know what else to call it... anyways, I will get so caught up emotionally in someone that I take on their issues emotionally. It's not good for me, at all. I feel like I've been doing well to "block" that "absorption", but I know that is a weakness that I need to stay strong about. =)

Alrighty crew - have a happy and productive thursday.
Amanda

We don't have NAMI in South Africa. But, I'm going to find out what we have and send him there. Will take note of your concerns regarding the room.

Jason (student teacher) was at school all day and then took his team to play hockey. He only got home after 18h00 - I think it was good for him to be out and enjoy himself. He slept better last night so we're just taking it one day at a time. He knows that I love and support him.

Lee, I second the NAMI recommendation. They have so many different programs that you should be able to go to with your son. As for re-doing his room... just be careful. When Geo came to visit me in LA for the first time his mom cleaned his room and threw out things that he really liked. It took us months to find his high school ring... it was in the jewelry box my engagement ring came in. Just keep it simple... hopefully it will get the ex gf ju ju out.

Hi everyone,
Can't believe I enjoy the chats on this forum! Nearly finished my assignment, just need to add the finishing touches. I only have another 3 to do and them I'm done with the Public Administration Course. Can't Wait!

AMANDA
What a good idea to redo his room. It will definately lift his spirits. I've made an appointment for him to see the Counsellor on Friday.

Checking in, after a icky bout of Sinus-mess...

I went on a 30 minute run/walk yesterday. One of those Couch to 5k apps. It was a lot easier than I expected... yeah!

Also, I've started to have a "green" smoothie every morning. I notice - for me - that I do not retain as much water by the next morning, meaning my arms and face don't feel so swollen, etc. WOOT! For me, with my Lithium, it's great! My current recipe: ice, good handful spinach, 1 leaf of kale, ginger, green apple (or other apple), a spoonful of chia, water up to the 1cup line. Blend! Then I add my hemp protein powder. I've tried other ones, but for this green smoothie, it tastes best for me.

ZZLEESCH -
I'm so sorry that your son is going through this. I notice when my husband is down, it lasts about a month. After that, he pops out of it... if your son doesn't come out of it, are you comfortable planning things for him? Would it be an idea to re'vamp (rearrange, repaint, light the old sheets on fire...=D, just kidding) his room? Maybe that would get the ex-gf ju-ju out of that room? It might be an idea to call your local NAMI chapter (http://www.nami.org/) to see if there are young people meetings in the area.

Much positive thoughts to you!

Hi guys, I think my son (22) is suffering from depression. Due to the fact that he has broken up with his girlfriend (1 month ago). He has gone out with his friends once or twice since the breakup but prefers staying at home and sleeping in front of the tv. He doesn't want to sleep in his own room - I think he just worries all the time. He's been asking for sleeping pills (I gave him one of mine for a day or two and then changed to herbal ones - he doesn't know the difference).

My other boys (18) and (14) are both doing well. They are studying, doing sport, etc. They're also finding it difficult to understand their brother.

I support him as much as possible - I sit and listen while he talks but I don't have the answers so I've got him an appointment with a Church counsellor.

Will keep you updated on progress.

It's nice that you came by and posted.. I know how addicting those computer games are... Which one are you playing now?

I've been off and on... struggling with depression. I should have gone to see my doctor today, but I might try tomorrow after therapy. I just don't feel well. I'm having foot problems and I need to get an MRI done on it since it still hurts after about 2 months. It's not broken... I've had enough x-rays done to make my foot glow.

Hey Guys, sorry I haven't been on for about a week, but I have been wrapped up in computer games (poor excuse), but having fun at them. I have managed to get some walking in there and doing chores around the house, nothing too much. I tend to let myself get wrapped up in the computer so I don't miss going out as much. Fixed income on SSDI means a no frills budget. I am still reading at night as well, so that, I think makes for more of a balance. So, like I said that is about it. Good to see new people on.

My son's birthday is in 12 days - he will be 43 years old! Wow, I am getting up there!

Have a great day everyone!

Hey Jen! Welcome! I know what you mean by retreating... when I had a nervous breakdown in the early 2000's I started living with my sister. I just went out of my room to get food, water, and to use the bathroom. I had to be on the phone for support to just get out of the house. I eventually came around, but I didn't start exercising until 2009. Now I love walking and running, but currently can't do it since I have foot problems. I'm so frustrated.. I just want to go for a walk. I need to work my way up to running... I used to be in cross country and could do a 5k (3.1 miles) in about 33 minutes.. that's 11 minutes a mile on hills, and then I would walk home from the bus (another 2 miles) I miss that, and I know I won't ever get it all back, but it's good to try.

Hi all, new here.
Just wanted to say that I started walking on Saturday (or was it Sunday, I forget). I just know that I decided to do some yard work and I got wore out after twenty minutes of using the weed whacker. My back was killing me and I was exhausted. I wanted to cry. Just three years ago I could mow both the front and back (and our front is on a steep hill), edge the entire yard and all the garden beds, and trim the bushes (with manual shears) before I got too exhausted to go on. And that was when it was in the 80s and 90s outside.

After I had my nervous breakdown at the end of 2011, I retreated into my room to save my sanity. I stopped doing everything, including house and yard work. I didn't realize how badly I had gotten out of shape. I tried to walking to the local grocery store which is a mile away. I've done this dozens of times, usually pushing a baby/toddler in a stroller. This last time I made it to the store in intense pain and had to sit down for 10 minutes before I could walk the mile home. I almost made my husband come get me. That made me mad. So the next day I went for a walk around our park. The path is a 1/4 mile. I was hurting after 2 laps and I was going slow.

Since then I've gone out every night to walk 4 laps. I'm happy to say that tonight I didn't start to hurt until the last half of the last lap and I was moving a brisk pace (for me anyway). And I made it home just in time--20 minutes later it started to POUR.

Walking is great, but it is so hard for me to get out there sometimes. Haven't walked in days, shame on me. But today is a new day, and I am getting out there this morning! Sorry I haven't been on in a few days, I have been playing a new game on the computer and time is just getting away with me. They are addictive!

I had a nice weekend. The kids went away for the weekend and I had the house all to myself (except, of course, the dogs). Things went smoothly with them, and it was soooooooooo nice having the privacy of being home alone! Well, that's about all for now. Have a good one everybody.

I went for a walk last night and it felt so good! I can't walk in the day because it's way too hot (over 90 degrees plus humidity) so I walk at night. I choose a well lit and often traveled road. My water belt has reflectors on it so I don't have to worry about wearing another one. I'm going to try and walk again tonight... I just love that feeling you get when it's just you, your music and the pavement.

Yeah Larissa, I know what you mean about the credit cards. I did get one, but that has a credit limit of $250. I am going to use it to raise my pitiful credit rating. I also have 2 store cards (Belks and Bealls), which are nice to have for bargains. But, yes, I have to be very careful not to run them up. I spent quite a bit on my redecorating, but I think it will be okay. I have my payment plans mapped out and keep track of how much I need each month for bills, what extra bills I have, how much I owe and how much I will pay each month, keeping an eye on and getting down the balances as quick as I can. It has been working fine so far.

Haven't walked for a few days, but did vacuum today and clean some so I think that qualifies for the exercise. Tomorrow I walk!

I keep getting all these ads for credit cards and mailings too. I just rip them up. I can't be trusted with a credit card... I learned the hard way on that one. Not to mention $60,000 in student loans. I can't pay any of it since I barely make enough to scratch by. I can't wait until I can get a decent paying job, and Geo gets his surgery and can hopefully find something he can do. It sure beats being on disability to me.

My mom's husband got mad at me... I told him that my mom needed sleeping pills and Prozac and he said as long as I don't have a degree in psych that I can't make that decision. Screw him... my mom is in the middle of a deep depression and could use some help. I hope she can go to a free clinic and get checked out.

Larrisa - Glad you passed. Now keep your scrub brush and organizing up daily and you will be home free from now on! I know it may seem difficult, but with practice you can make it a routine and you don't even have to think about it. I spray Scrubbing Bubbles in my shower about 1 x a week and it automatically cleans the soap scum out when you run the shower. I LOVE Scrubbing Bubbles and it really isn't that expensive. It works really well to clean out the sink basin too. I also have a habit of making the bed when I get up, it looks so much better throughout the day. I know you nap a lot, most of the time if I take a nap I just lay on the top and pull a light throw on myself. That way the bed stays nice, and for some reason for naps I don't like to sleep IN the bed but ON it..... Kind of dumb, but that is what works for me. Since I got off all those meds I don't need naps anymore really.

Well, yesterday was a full day in town. Many errands and an eye dr apt. Got a clean bill of health from the doc, which is important because I have a lot of eye problems in the family. He gave me some drops for the teary eyes which have been driving me crazy. They are better today. Went to the store for groceries. Got individual portion sized popcorn and nut snacks to see if that helps the calorie counts. Weight was back up 3 lbs again yesterday.... Darn it!

Haven't walked in the last few days. Haven't gotten to it in the morning, and if I don't do it then I usually don't do it at all........ tomorrow is another day........ I have to put away the dishes and then I am going to work on the genealogy again.

Got paid, so have been paying the bills. Gesh! Redecorating was expensive. I spent about $300 - doesn't seem like I bought that much..... but there it is...... Oh, well. I am also paying off some jewelery I got from JTV (weak moment) and my sister for my air plane ticket to NY....... Those will be paid off next month, so that is good. Now to just stay out of the stores so I don't rack up more bills. I need to stash some money away for a rainy day. It is so hard to do that, but I must!

Well, that's about it....... Happy Memorial Day weekend all!...... emoticon

WE PASSED INSPECTION! I'm so relieved. I couldn't have done it without my wonderful mother in law and a really good maid. The bathroom is all white, and I don't want to put anything on the sink because it looks so nice without all the clutter. They were mainly checking out the kitchen and bathroom and those are the places my MIL did he work. I can breathe a sigh of relief.

FL Fairy - Your comment about Larissa's definition of clean vs the other people's definition is RIGHT ON!!

Larissa, I'm actually a personal organizer for my business. I let my OCD run crazy at other people's houses to make money.... ok, that's only sort of true. Check out my website for some fun tips and ideas: www.denmom.com

A busy day for me today. Let's go make some good choices!

Thanks for the thought Amanda. Larissa - get busy with the ajax! You CAN'T get kicked out! Don't let that happen. You can do it! Apparently your idea of "not bad" and their idea of bad are very different. Do you have a lot of stuff laying around? Cleaning that up really makes a difference and then you can see what else needs doing. You can do it, I know you can!

I talked to my dr and he got me back on track. What was causing my anxiety is only a misunderstanding of comments he had made on my last visit.

I am making a small basket of crochet today. Seems to be coming along well. I am about 1/3rd of the way through. Will walk today. Missed yesterday. Working on the genealogy as well, it keeps my mind occupied. Take care all!

FL FAIRY - It makes me nuts when I'm anxious and I can't control it. I hope you got good help from your doctor. The only thing I've ever gotten to calm me down is forced sleep after a huge ol' walk - like 2 hours. Though now I have happy meds to keep me level when those times kick in.

Larissa-- what an angel you MIL is! You are so fortunate.

This past weekend I did the NAMI 5k. It was really great. There were tons of vendors and lots of people showing their pride of their MIs. Super cool. I'm glad to get more involved in the future.

Food wise: uggg. That's really all I've got. Not bad choices but not great either. Tomorrow, I'm back to logging my food: no holds bar.

Does anyone take Lithium? Do you feel swollen? What do you do?

Good night -- Amanda

I got a "7 days notice to cure" about my apartment. They said it was unlivable. It wasn't that bad, but the apartment people are going to go under inspection and they said that if our apartment was in the condition it was in that the auditors would kick us out that same day. I've been cleaning my butt of for the past couple of days, that's why I've been gone. yesterday Geo's mom came over and did a massive job in the kitchen. She said our toaster was old, so she bought us a new one. We needed more stove plates, so she got us that. She said our coffeemaker was falling apart, so she bought us a new one. She has this whole list of things she is going to buy for us. She is my angel. When we were falling apart broke, she helped us with rent and paid our power bills. I don't know what I could do to make up for all that. She is just amazing. She's coming over tomorrow to work on the bathroom. I am so lucky to have her!

Good morning all!

I've been busy with Mother's Day weekend and getting my business going. I've started my own business as a personal organizer. I've been doing it for friends and family for years, but this is me putting out "my shingle". I'm excited and scared all at the same time time. As well as mostly busy, with paying clients. Woot!

Food-- could have been better. Exercise-- big bike ride on Sunday with family. So lovely. Today, I'm doing some manual labor at the kid's school.

I'm really upset that I can't seem to get and stay below the tens mark right now. I've been hovering 180 for 18 months. I know some is the glory of meds. Some is bad food choices. Some is not enough exercise. But cr@p, this is so frustrating!! I have been hoping to be hovering 170 by the 4th of July. That seems impossible.

Avoiding sweets : check
Off coffee : check
Double veg intake : check
Water : usually 7 glasses a day

Thoughts????
Happy Tuesday!
Amanda

The cleaning is mostly done.. we got roach bait to kill the roaches, but other than that (and the bedroom) is okay. I've been trying to work on the closet so I can hang my clothes in there but it's hard since it's Geo's side of the bed and his stuff if all over where you open the closet door. One of these days it will get done.

Ruthie, great job on the walk! Just take it one step at a time! (pun intended)

Got out and took my 1.7 mile walk this morning. Wore a long sleeved shirt for the flies. Still got bit while just starting out before I put on my jacket gezzzzzzz! Well, that's over for today. Started a new crochet spa set yesterday. Half a washcloth done. One more washcloth, 3 face puffs and 1 soap bag to go! Well, that's about it for today. Hope all are well. Larissa - how's the cleaning going? I miss my parents too. They both died in 1997 and I still think of them and miss them terribly. What I wouldn't give for another chance to hug them.....

I was watching a show with Geo of a woman's wedding, and her father came up to walk her down the aisle and I just broke down sobbing. I miss my dad... he died 18 years ago, but it stilll hurts.

Good move with the horn - that would be VERY annoying to have it going off.......... You can get and keep the house clean - just a little bit every day. You would be surprised. It is hot out already. I got up early thinking I would go out and walk, but here I am 1 1/2 hours later and no walking. It is just getting hotter and hotter sitting here. Maybe it is cooler outside. Only one way to find out! Think I will haul my fat a** out the door and get it over with.

Happy mothers day all! emoticon My son got me a cute sea turtle night light for the bathroom. Now I have a matching night light for my new sea-side bathroom..........

Well, that's it for today........ Everyone enjoy!

Today wasn't too bad... I slept for most of it and did a bit of cleaning. It's apartment inspection time and I know that I have to keep my apartment looking good for a whole month. Well, if we can keep it up for a month there's no saying we can't keep it that way. The upstairs neighbors are at it again... I don't know what they do up there but there's loud banging, heavy thuds that sound like a bowling ball dropping and other stuff. I miss the neighbors up there that just vacuumed all the time. Oh well.. if i ask them to stop they will just do it more. My neighbors don't like me since the horn of my car would go off for hours without stopping. The neighbors kept trying the front door, but we were in the bedroom sleeping and didn't hear them. This happened twice, so we took out the fuse from the horn so now we have no horn. This didn't help the neighbors like me more, but oh well. It's not going to happen again.

Good afternoon!

Started out to be a beautiful day and then clouded up and has continued to rain most of the afternoon. Still beautiful, though.....without rain, there would be no rainbows or waterfalls.

Best news of the day is I got a $100 tip!! Woot! These guests come 3 times a year and this time I got them a tropical bouquet of flowers, chocolate covered macadamia nuts with a card welcoming them back.....and presto! big tip!

Oh, but how I get sleepy around 4pm everyday, LoL. Struggling to keep my eyes open. Better move my body and wake up!

Have a great Saturday!

Hey guys - sorry I haven't been on in a couple of days. I got caught up in redecorating my bedroom and bathroom. It is nice now that it is done. A big change from what I had and I like it! It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the bathroom done, so many trips back and forth to the store. I would get towels and rug and some decorations for the bathroom and then not liking it and taking the stuff back and get more things, only to have them not work either..... This went on like 5 times! But I got it now.

I also got caught up in genealogy again. I am trying to sort out one branch of my family tree that has been a roadblock for many years now. I think I have a good lead from a genealogy book that I found on ancestry.com. Hopefully I will get some good information from that.

I haven't been walking this week at all. I am going to try today, but I have to clean the turtle tank and that always uses up my energy. I also have a few things to take back to the stores again (the residuals of the shopping spree). So, we will see what happens with the walk. My back is acting up again as well. I haven't been eating well at all either. I have had a lot of success with low carb, high protein as well, although I am off on that now. I get so addicted to salt and carbs...... aggghhhhh!

Anyway, Larissa they are a little expensive, but Skinny Cow puts out great ice cream products that are very satisfying and only about 100-130 calories each serving. They come in bars and sandwiches. I try and use those as much as possible. Also, chocolate animal crackers work well. You can count out the cookies, and they take a while to eat if you nibble. They actually are pretty low in calories and cheap! As always, fresh fruit is a great choice. I LOVE sweet strawberries. I can eat a whole pint in one sitting. I don't put any sugar on the fruit - it doesn't need it. Of course, you already know this.

I am happy to hear that Geo has to get educated about the surgery. That is a great idea for the weight loss clinic to make people take. He also needs to wean himself off the carbs and sugars that come with junk food. We all know how difficult that is! Get a book on the Adkins diet - it is a great source of information. I think Geo would do very well on the Adkins diet. I believe he would have help with the cravings and also loose weight. We all know that protein helps keep the hungriness away.

Well, busy day today. Take care all. emoticon

Hey Amanda! Thanks for the advice... I hope that Geo can just lose enough weight to where he's not in pain all the time. I think he needs a knee replacement. I hope he doesn't get all worked up and crazy once he loses the weight. I've lost (from my high to low) 70 pounds. My doctor is proud of me... I'm at the lowest weight that I've been in the last 2 years. My doctor made a comment that Geo needs to join me in losing weight. He's been putting off going to the pool, and so no exercise for him. I try and cook healthy, and have things like cottage cheese and peaches for desert instead of cookies or something. I told Geo I wasn't going to buy any more junk food, but I know when I get to the store and see that chocolate cake it's going to be hard. I want that cake so bad. Maybe I can have a bit of it, then freeze it and eat it slowly,I don't want to be totally deprived and then go to the market and binge. I try eating protein to fill me up, but it doesn't. I had cottage cheese and peaches for desert yesterday and I was still hungry later. I had a bagel and that made my stomach happy. I tried a low carb diet and didn't see any results, so I'm sticking with just eating healthy and exercising. Sorry if I went off topic... I'm a bit hypomanic.

PS: with all that cleaning, think of the calories burned!

OMG! I completely remembered this RIGHT NOW --- when I was pregnant, I learned that when our bodies raze sweets, it really needs protein! Maybe that could be a thought for you guys to help defeat the sweet. At home, I like having 2 turkey roll ups with a dot of mustard on the inside and 2 baby carrots and 2 pickles as a mini snack before the chocolate. I notice that the sweets really aren't very yummy afterwards, and it's more satisfying, which was really my main issue. However, while I'm out and about - I've yet to find a good diversionary tactic.

Hopefully this helps.

Larissa - my evil step-mom-in-law had the surgery about 10 years ago. She went from size 22 to like a 8, at only 5 feet, that's visually a lot! However, now she's back up to a 12 - no big deal as she retired, moved to a Retirement Village (or something), and watches the game show network most of the day. Fine... The #1 thing everyone noticed is she went from "icky attitude and ok to be around" to "holy crap what a witch and lets go now".

From what I've noticed from other people who have had the surgery - if the "insides" aren't good, then the "outside" can never be. It seems -from your posts - your husband is an amazing and wonderful person, who happens to have a lot of weight. When he loses a few and starts getting positive feedback on the scale, then he is going to be a Rock Star when he is in Maintenance Mode.

Has it ever been a thought to go to a Men's Only meeting at Weight Watchers? I lost my first round of weight with WW, worked for them, drank the Kool-Aid, etc. What I loved the most was having the meeting - hearing people talk about the topics (emotional eating, holidays, exercise allergies). Learning what they did - visually, auditory, and kenisthetically - really kept pushing me every single week to try 1 thing different. Why not? I knew that eating chocolate wasn't working, so maybe a carrot and a glass of water BEFORE the chocolate will be a BETTER step. Anyways, the first meeting is free, so it could be just a thought.

For me - tracking is still going. Woot! I'm really noticing an eating pattern, at least for this week. I'm excited to see if my theory pans out before I share. I don't want to jinx it. For now, coming to this board everyday to see what's happening and check in is working great.

Tomorrow plans - wake up, 10 min arms, clean up, work, phone calls, therapist meeting, meet a friend to walk, meet a client, pick up The Runt from school, home for day. I'm missing something --- breathing! Lol!

Happy Evening!
Amanda

Today I went with my friend Lisa to go clean a daycare center. It's pretty small, so it only takes her a couple hours. She has me go with her to keep her company and doesn't ask me to clean. Just sit there and talk. I do small things, like taking out the trash. I like doing it.

My apartment inspections are coming this week, and I'm worried. I have to do a ton of cleaning to get my apartment in shape. Well, I hope I can get rid of the roaches and ants. I don't know why we have roaches... I don't think I'm *that* dirty. But we have them, and we need to clean anyway. I should have the apartment people come re-grout the tub since it's turned black from the hard water. I tried spraying bleach on it, and it did nothing. So I'm going to ask them to re-do it. I have to get my bathroom cleaned first, and then call. And the inspections last for a month, so I have to be at super-clean for a month. I know I can do it, just have to hang in there.

Ruthie:

Before he gets the surgery, he has to go to a seminar about the surgery, the risk, complications, side effects and all that. They have people from all different surgery dates to tell their personal stories. Once you go to the seminar, then they make the appointment from there. I'm just worried the doctor is going to flat out refuse him unless he's under 500 pounds... he ended up gaining more weight! *sigh* I think he's ready this time, though. I'm going to be there by his side, making sure he choses healthy choices. I cook dinner, so I have at least control of that. We both need to add more veggies to our diet. I know once he sets his mind to it, it will happen.

Great Job Amanda! A little creativity is great stuff! emoticon

Larissa - sorry to hear your mom's life is so crazy........ And I hope Geo understands if he has surgery, he will HAVE to portion his meals, be careful of what and how much he eats. Just getting the surgery won't work unless he changes his eating habits. I had a friend who had the surgery. She lost a lot of weight at first, but has gained it all back and then some. She also has the residual of not being able to eat regular quantities of food. She can only eat small meals, but obviously that doesn't keep her calorie count down, just spreads out the eating. There can also be HORRIBLE physical issues (like loose bowel movements, throwing up, ect). Research it on the internet. The surgeons may not be real clear on the ramifications of surgery............. Just like for my sleep apnea. Years ago, a surgeon wanted to do surgery to help the sleep apnea and snoring. I was going to do it, because he didn't say anything about side effects or the negatives of the surgery. I had my boss (a doctor) sit me down and explain exactly what they do in the surgery and the negative physical issues of having the surgery done. Like, they actually remove part of the top of your mouth, you know the hard part? Well, they cut half of that away to make more room in your throat for air. THEN you can have the side effect of not being able to swallow correctly and throwing up because of the deformity. The procedure is also not guaranteed to work! My brother had the surgery and he still has sleep apnea and snores! So make sure you both do the homework. Talk to several people who have actually had the surgery and see what they say about it. And find ones to talk to who had the procedure a while ago, not recently. Just saying........

Amanda, it is going to be hard, especially since I crave goodies all the time. But if I want to get serious about it, it's the perfect time. Geo is going to try and get qualified for his gastric bypass surgery (he weighs 567 pounds, 6 foot 7) so he has to cut them out anyway. I'm hoping he can get the surgery... he needs to lose weight and cutting out the junk is a good way to start. He's into photography, so it gives him a reason to get out and do a bit of walking. Little by little, baby steps.

I went to my elections training today, and I got 100% on my quiz! I just hope they don't call me to work. If I'm on standby, all I do is wait all day for a call and I get $18. If I am chosen to work at the polls, I have to be there at 5:30am until after 7 pm for $90. I'm not a morning person, so I prefer the standby. We will see how it goes.

Larissa- hoorah for doc visit. Hoorah for the courage to avoid bringing snacks in house! Very brave! It's hard for like a month, but it evens out after a bit.

FL-- omg! What a dream boat! LOL! Oh the lives we lived (and occasionally miss) before we knew/dealt with our illnesses.

Today, I've tracked everything! We had Mexican delivered to the office, so chips wre my archnemisis, per usual. My calories were super crazy, but I tracked every BLT! AND I even got up about 15 minutes early this morning a did a mini 5 min arm workout. Better than zero! :-)

Tomorrow's plan - 5 minute abs, BLT, take a little walk at baseball field and do different "cardios" at each corner. Like jumping jacks, granny-squats (which I totally made up, probably an illegal workout move), standing crunches, etc.

Happy evening and meds to all. :)

Wow Ruthie, that's crazy! I hope you do get to see him. He sounds like he was a positive influence in your life.

I'm doing okay... just been busy and lazy. I'm in a depressive funk based on my actions, but I don't feel depressed. Oh well. My mom was supposed to move to West Virginia, but is now staying in Jacksonville instead (Ruthie... next time I go we have to hang out!). I went out to a Mexican place and had a Corona and some chorizo and egg. It was nice. I went to the doctor, and he said I'm at my lowest weight in the past 2 years. I was so excited to hear that! Geo, on the other hand, gained 20 pounds. He needs to get the gastric bypass surgery, but he has a lot of work to do. He needs to lose weight, and so I'm not going to bring goodies into the house anymore. I don't need them and he doesn't need them. When I go to the store I normally get him some type of treat, but I'm not going to enable him with that anymore. I love him and I want him to be with me for many years to come.

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! emoticon they don't have a pinata, so this will have to do!

Went for my walks this weekend. Janet and I decided that the dog is just too much for me - I am always running into trouble with her (other dogs, getting away from me). I hate to, because she loves walking with me so much, but it is better than her getting in trouble because I can't handle her (understandable - she does weight 90 lbs!) Anyway, I am alone on my walks - emoticon

Crocheting is coming along great! I finished a spa set (washcloths, soap bag, 3 powder puffs for makeup removal). They came out great! I finally got the bubble stitch down. What a pain that was to figure out. Now I am making one of those tubular plastic bag holder that I will hang in my pantry to hold plastic bags. Fun! It is coming along fine. I am getting this crochet thing down..........

Had an early Cinco meal yesterday at my fav Mexican restaurant. Sadly, they have made some changes, and I don't like them so much now. Maybe if I was having a HUGE Mexican craving, but........... The frozen margaritas weren't on happy hour and the ones I went ahead and got weren't the usual potency. I had to ask for a descent amount of taquila in the drink, and then it didn't taste good anyway........ bummer, they always had such good frozen margaritas. something is different, not happy.

So........... calories were WAY off the scale....... I will have to cut back for the next few days just to get rid of the extra calories I consumed. Don't know if it was worth it or not.. Psych dr today - not much to report to him, just get my meds refilled.

I talked with an old friend Saturday. What a nice surprise to get a call from him. He is actually more than an old friend, he is the love of my life. He said that he may be in town and we should go to lunch when he comes. If he actually makes it (usually doesn't happen like you want it to) it will be nice, except I will feel so awkward about the way I look now compared to when he last saw me. I am 17 years older, about 50 lbs heavier and my face and hair are just not the same. He says his hair has turned gray, but geeze, you know how well men age versus how women age. I am sure he is handsome as ever, even for a few wrinkles more here and there. But, it probably won't happen anyway, and in a way I am glad of that. I want him to remember me like I was, not like I am now with my extra weight, and hair cut off and gray.

I will always love him, but now it is not a sexual love, it is a true love of who he is and what we were together. He is adventurous, happy, care-free. Hard to describe him. He is Val. He lives in the Keys and is definitely the interesting character for it. He plays music, writes his own songs, lives the life he wants to, is always open to a new adventure. He has lived on his own sail boat, is a captain. He also used to pilot a glass bottom boat out of Key Largo to the reefs. He lives simply so he could have more freedom and not be bogged down in having to pay rent for an apartment or house. Would you believe he lived in a converted bus at several times in his life. He travels the country looking for new adventures. He once rode his bicycle around the perimeter of Florida just for the joy of it. It took him almost six months. Can you imagine?

But, it was so nice to hear from him. I have so many good memories of us together and all the fun we had. He taught me how to take risks and how to live unconventionally, even though I never did adopt the lifestyle. I almost did at one point, but because of my unstable mental health I took a different turn. Oh, well, C'est la vie Have a good one everybody!

Hi all. End of weekend check in. My moods have been hella pooptastic. I feel super frumpy. I'm back on track first thing in the AM. Meds, food, water! My goal for the week is to BLT - bite it, lick it, track it. Hopefully I will see a mini-loss by next Monday morning.

Hugs all around!

Good afternoon!

Yesterday's walk was so refreshing (took a different route) I'm looking forward to doing it again tonight!

Company from The Big Island arrived last night after 11pm & we stayed up talking story until almost 2am....yikes! Still managed to get in 7 hours of sleep in, so no worries on that one.

Nothing exciting other than that.....ahhh, paradise!

Need to figure out dinner....plenty to choose from but nothing sounds good.

Good Saturday afternoon to you!

Gosh, it sure did feel good to sleep late and then lounge around most of the day.

I agree with using the food tracker as a great tool to help loose weight. Should really get back to doing that on a more regular basis. Being low carb, I don't count calories but rather the ratio of fat to protein and count carbs instead. Still counting & tracking, just not calories.

Well if I'm going to make the day count for something, it's time to get up off my okole and at least get the dishes put away. Company from The Big Island is arriving this evening for the next 10 days and had better tidy up the cottage a bit.

Hey guys, sorry I missed yesterday. I got busy playing games and crocheting and the day was just gone! Yes, Seattle, I love the food tracker too. I used that heavily to keep track and try to keep my diet in check with it and lost 40 lbs. I brought my cholesterol down using the tracker to cut down and keep it within the restrictions daily. My dr was so happy! I am back to using it again to help get these pounds off that I gained back. I just let myself go over the last 1 1/2 years since my hospitalization. But, back to business now. It is a daily struggle, but worth it in terms of good health. Well, guess that's it for now! Have a great day everyone!

Jan 15th - only 21 to go! I can do this!

Today was a good day.. it was tiring, but not bad. We went to the doctor to get Geo's check up and then went out to pizza. We went to the store, filled up the gas tank ($62!), picked up meds and went home. I took a 3 hour nap, and then just warmed up a frozen dinner for dinner and now I'm here!

Am doing fine- off the pain meds and just on Tylenol. I go back to Raleigh Monday to see the doctor for a follow up.

Just want to drop a quick note before going to bed.

I tracked all my food again today. (2 full days out of 3!). I noticed how I can see my protien, carbs, and fat totals - right there with my calorie total. So cool. My medical doc has me trying to eat half my body weight in protein per day. Then - due to my idiot food poisoning- I'm off gluten and dairy for at least 1 more week. Has anyone else tried this protein thing? I like it because I'm not hungry and feel like my moods are more even (not med-free even), but it is really tricky.

Anyways, I'm hoping over the weekend to get back on my full meds. I'm ready for a big walk or bike ride this weekend.

Happy pre-Friday!
Amanda
