Ayla, I'm here for you! I told my uncle to add you and your parents in their prayers and to their prayer group.

Hello again,

Thank you, Change, for your positive thoughts. I remain optimistic, and always grateful. I may have started this post not in the most optimistic mood, I can't recall without looking, but I feel positive and optimistic at the moment.

I had a brief scare tonight when Mom was acting a little off, and she seemed very hot. I took her temperature and re-evaluated, and determined after talking to her that she was just extremely tired after a very busy and productive day (I am very proud of her for her effort) and that she just needs rest. The old me would have panicked. I would have called my brother and sister-in-law here at midnight, had two households up and in the middle of chaos. But I have learned so much in the last year, in no small part to you all, my support system.

Where would we be in this world without each other, I wonder? It is said that no man is an island. I would certainly agree to this now, but I had to learn it the hard way.

Thank you all so much, for just being you.

Ayla.

It is good you are trying to stay positive, and you have people to lean on. I will keep your parents in my thoughts.

Unfortunately, my mother has told me that there will be no outside help. She says, and I quote, "I am not going on the dole and getting any sort of services from the government or anyone else, then you have a bunch of strangers coming in and rifling through your stuff, looking into everything and writing things down about you. I won't have it, and if you think about doing it, you can pack your bags."

Mom was very angry and serious when she said it. (She is angry a lot these days). I suggested we go for counseling today, so that she might feel better, and to that she said, I don't need any therapy, I just need to buckle down."

This is all very hard on me, yes, but I have support in the form of online and phone friends, and a friend or two locally. I also am a believer in God. I have plenty of time for myself, as the only help my parents generally need is in the form of housework and meal preparation, as well as laundry. Mom occasionally needs a little help in the tub, but she can take care of feeding, dressing, all of that herself. She even does fine with her own meds--she has a pill dispenser. I also play at chauffeur for transportation. Mom even pays the bills.

Mom's doctor is hopeful that Mom can make a full recovery, although I am a little more cautiously hopeful. The doctor isn't here every day.

Anyway, I am doing my best to stay positive, to keep in a good frame of reference. No point in me being negative like my mother, apparently she can't help it. I have to remember she is sick. I would ask that you all, if you do pray, please pray for my Mom and Pa, their names are Bill and Lynne. I would appreciate that very much.

Thanks a ton.

Ayla

Aylamay, sorry to hear about your parents. I imagine this is a very difficult for all of you.

The only thing I can think of at this time is to see what supports are available to give all of you piece of mind and to give you space to breath. Perhaps you can get an in-home nurse or someone similar who comes by and helps out around the house, as well as make sure your parents get their meds, if they take any. Also see if any family or friends can help with any tasks.

Make sure you take care of yourself - make time for yourself. Caretaking is very stressful and draining - caretakers can get burned out.

I am back here after a long time away too. Things were up in the air after now both my parents have been diagnose with organic brain disease. They do very well all things considered. Some days they do better than I do.

I am working very hard right now to try to get structure into my life--let me know if you all have any ideas.

LOL @ Just2. I've been in therapy for 15 years now... I should be normal around age 50... Just in time for menopause!

Good to see you again & don't beat yourself up. Depression is very well-known as an un-motivator & makes it difficult for one to just get out of bed, much less exercise, eat healthily, practice good coping skills & stress & anxiety reduction techniques.

Good seeing your therapist again. I've been in therapy most of the past 40 years (60 in May) so I should be "perfectly normal" by the time I'm 80!

Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again.

*hugs* Everyone has their setbacks. I got all the way down to 225 from 280 and then I went and gained up to 260. Now I'm back where I was then (221.2) and working on getting back down to 208 again. That's when I faltered and gained more weight. It's partially the meds, but mostly my own behavior, So don't get discouraged... you can lose the weight again and more. That's what we are here for! *hugs*

Hello - It's been a while - a LONG while since I've been on here. I see there are new team leaders again.

I'm not working now because it had gotten too stressful. I'm in the appeal stage of my disability claim (not sure what the attorney should be doing during this time, haven't heard from her since December). I think I was/am depressed for awhile, but didn't even know I was. I thought I was just having a bad day, or whatever reason I could blame it on. I'd say I'm mildly depressed, though really I don't know what moderate would be like.

As for weight - I managed to gain it all back. I'd kept it off for awhile, but things just fell apart. I didn't gain right away, which I am thankful for, but once I did, I kept going. Now I look pregnant.

So no job, no money, gained weight back, depressed - Yea.

I'm back in therapy, and hopefully will be using Vocational Rehab to see if I can even work at all. At least I have my friends.

It is very hard for me to balance my social media platforms, and I'm sorry I haven't been up here. If you are into Facebook, and want to be friends there, please message me. I'm there more than on any other platform.

I hope 2014 is treating everyone well for the most part...
