I'm lucky that I live in Miami and it's nice weather for almost the whole year. I can go for a walk in the sun and get my Vitamin D. I suggest sun lamps for those people who can't get out. I have heard from many people that it works with their depression. *hugs*

*hugs Riv* I'm sorry you have to deal with PCOS. I had a friend who had it and she would go to the hospital when one would burst. So painful.

I know that because I have PCOS I am supposed to eat low carb but I can never seem to keep it up. I will do good for a few days and then it just stops. I am going to try and have to find something else that works... I do need to try the exercise in the morning thing.. that is good.

I know I crave carbs in the winter as well. I do agree that it is a comfort food thing. I tried the low carb diet but I didn't get any results.

mmm, dry toast sounds yummy right now. but I'm on the verge of a binge, so just about everything sounds yummy! lol But I think I really will have some for breakfast! (If I don't cave in tonight!) I'm already eating a lean cuisine and sparkling water, I hope that curbs the edge!

I often crave carbs in the winter as well, I suppose it's because the carbs when ingested release serotonin. But I need to cut it out.

My carb of choice is a mini lenders bagel. Each one has a hundred calories. Now if only I could learn to eat them unbuttered!

I used to enjoy dry rye toast. I am going to have to take that up again. We even have it in the house.

There was a lecture on tv about body type and what a person should eat, and apparently I am a person who should not eat carbs. That's hard for me in the winter, when I seek that serotonin boost.

I saw something on here today that said something like "exercise in the morning before your body even knows what's going on" lol. (that way it doesn't put up a fight!)

Hope it helps :)

I totally crave carbs in the winter... I think it is the whole comfort food thing.

I never thought about doing exercise right when I wake up. I will have to try that.

Just having a heck of a time trying to get back on track, though I know winter is hard for me to be motivated. I don't think I am depressed though... I don't know...

I like to use a 10,000 lux depression SAD light daily to treat the winter blues. When I use it, it helps a lot.

I noticed that I crave carbs in the winter. Anybody else?

Usually, yes, I do get less motivated during the winter. Lucky for me, I channeled my thoughts into fitness this winter. It has been extra tough the last few days with the weather being so cold that even the schools are shut down! So, needless to say, I have been cooped up at home. I'm getting out of the house tomorrow though, so that will be good.

Like Larissa said, VITAMIN D and exercise. Very good for you. In the summer, we naturally get vitamin D from being in the sun. In the winter, we lack it. So, try a vitamin D supplement, see if that helps.

TRY to make yourself exercise at least 10/15 minutes each morning right when you wake up. This will help your energy throughout the day.

Also, one thing I do when I'm in the dumps is only allow myself to listen to upbeat music and only watch comedy sitcoms or movies. I avoid anything with loss or death or crimes, any of that off limits.

Hope some of that helps.

I think the lack of sun for people makes them depressed. I know a lot of people who have the artificial sunlight lamps. I'm lucky to live in Miami where it's warm 99% of the time. Although I know in winter I actually go hypomanic and in the summer I get depressed. I'm weird like that. Still, I know even regular people have trouble in winter. Maybe try some vitamin d or a walk in the sun. I know that helps some people. *hugs*

Hey everyone,

So things are going well here over all. My moods are generally stable but I have a question about winter.

Do you find that during winter you are way less motivated and your moods can be more easily affected?

If you do how does this affect your ability to keep reaching towards your goals and how do you work around it.

I don't think I have SADS but I think everyone with mental health issues struggles to some degree with changing weather... so I am just curious.

Thanks

Becca
