Thanks for the info. We doubled my Lamictal with no change. I went off natural hormone therapy at the advice of my gynochlegest and was fine for a while but when it totally got out of my system the hot flashes are not allowing me to sleep in the coldest of winter. So I went back on, but will see my G P who put me on them this week. Any other suggestions for any bipolar meds appreciated.

Love your scripture! Did lithium make you gain weight? I was told it can make you gain a lot of weight by my first psych.

When I was on Seroquel I gained weight because it made my appetite skyrocket. Have you tried lithium? That worked well for me.

HI!

I have recently gone through the long process of switching from one ant-seizure to Lamictal (very rough process for me) and one thing I've learned is that other meds can impact & reduce it's effectiveness by as much as 50%. In my case HRT/estrogen was the culprit which messed with the lamictal.

Best two suggestions is to ask you Dr if they can run a blood test to see if your Lamictal levels are in the theraputic range. If it's on the low side & depending on how many mg's you are taking now doc may or may not adjust the amount you are taking.

Second suggestion is to go to epocrates.com and go to the drug interaction checker. Enter in everything you are taking and see what comes up as interactions. That was a real eye opener!

Lamictal is not know for weight gain. I personally had a hard time on Seroquil with terrible awful, horrible constipation and weight gain....something like 12 pounds in 6 weeks. But we are all different and what works or creates nasty side effects for one of us might not be that way for the next person.

As a matter of fact, I'm going in today to see about another lamictal level blood test and to see if we can raise the antidepressant (Wellbutrin) to the max dose of 450mg. You are not alone in this struggle ... so hang in there and keep trying!

Keep us posted as to how you are doing, okay?

Has anyone discovered that their bipolar med (in my case Lamictal) quit working so well after 5 or 6 years of being on it? I did so well at first but now I am depressed all the time and have no motivation. We've tried lots of other things (anti-depressants, abilify etc). The one thing we have not tried is changing the anti-seizure med for bipolar. I have bipolar 2. I'm also concerned about weight gain on new med. I'm wondering about Seriquil.
Thanks for some quick replies in advance.
