I really feel for you! emoticon
Schools in Ontario, Canada are all NUT FREE. No one is allowed to have anything containing nuts. That includes teachers & staff! There are so many people allergic to nuts that they had to do something to protect them.
All my kids eat is PB, so they come home at lunch! emoticon

I hope that they will change the laws in your State so that you can go back to work.

So last Christmas I developed a very severe peanut allergy. It just came out of the blue. It took awhile for me to adjust and figure out what I was allergic to and what foods had nuts in them that you wouldn't expect. I've sorted this out and have tried to help the school that I teach at put some of these ideas into place so it would be a safe environment for me and the other kids at the school that have peanut allergies.

Last year I had a few reactions at school because the vice principal kept bringing in nuts. He brought in banana walnut muffins and then somehow found popsicals that had nuts in them too. LOL I didn't think popsicals had nuts, but these ones did. So we finally got through to him and the other staff. Ironically it was the kids who picked up on my allergy first and were taking it seriously. I have never had a reaction from something the kids have brought in. Just adult TEACHERS!

I had another reaction on Thursday because a supply teacher brought in a bag of peanuts. She ate them in the staff room and then left the open bag in the garbage. I came in to eat my lunch and ended up having an allergic reaction at school. I really feel badly that I do have allergic reactions and that people can't bring nuts, but I thought that I had a right to a safe work environment.

Well anyways, I went to the hospital in an ambulance from school and stayed there for a few hours. The next day I went back to school and minded my own business. At lunch before I had a chance to eat (I am diabetic as well and really need to eat on schedule) tehy called me into the office and the superintendent from the board was there. They said that they can't provide a safe work environment for me because of my nut allergy (well what message is that going to send to the families of the kids with allergies) so they are going to pay me to stay off work.

I love my job! I live for my job and after I lost my baby this is really all I felt i had to live for. I"m sooo depressed. I know this isn't right. None of the doctors at the hospital can figure out how they can do this! I don't know what to do!
