I think I would DIE if I were allergic to garlic. I know it is part of the onion famiy but the doc didn't say that I was allergic to it so I won't stop eating it. I consider it its own food group.

I've been eating lunch out lately, but I only go to a couple of places where they know me and know what I can eat. The biggest problem in eating out for me is that I'm allergic to garlic and safflower oil, among many others, and there are not too many places that don't use garlic somewhere in their food.

well eating out for me is rather simple..... for the most part the only thing the scratch tests showed i was alergic to was eggs and a slight allergy to sugar maple. so i just have to avoid baked goods, sauces and batters. If you go out to eat Chili's is amazing they have seperate menu's for each of the top 8 allergies.

I went through the same thing when I first found out about my allergies. There was just so much food that I couldn't eat and I was very down in spirits that I just didn't want to eat. I couldn't eat my favorite foods anymore so what was the point. It took a little while for me to get used to the idea. Now I am trying all sorts of new stuff and turning it into a fun experience. I am cooking like crazy and having such a blast. You just need to look at the positives that this will give you. You are going to start eating healthier because you don't have a choice but to watch what you eat.

I do eat out on occasion! What I find best is to order very basic things and ask for them to be plain (no sauce, no seasoning, no garnish...really no anything extra). For example I would order steak/potatoes/salad and the salad would only be with oil and vinegar. Most places are very accommodating, I've only been to one place that was uncooperative and its easy enough never to go there again.

I just wanted to edit this to say that I don't know what you are allergic to so eating out may be a very different experience for you than it is for me. I have avoid all nuts, seeds, grains, dairy and a variety of fruits and veggies, its not easy but it can be done :)

I have certainly gone through periods where I afraid to eat and I've been allergic to the vaster majority of my allergens for over 10 years. I am pretty confident with a lot of the things I eat but it seems like at least once a year I have a scare that sends me into a terrified to eat state of mind. Twice it has been life threatening anaphylactic reactions that have sent me to hospital and left me afraid to eat, each time I had been overconfident and accidentally eaten something I shouldn't have, after reactions like that it honestly takes me about six months to eat "normally" again, I even have nightmares!

I suggest you register to receive contaminated food alerts, those e-mails have saved me more than once! Read labels ALWAYS, never trust that the ingredient list hasn't changed, the addition of sunflower oil to everything these days has drastically changed packaged foods that used to be "safe" for me.

Be wise about your food choices, read labels, never be afraid to ask and re-ask anyone about food they are serving you and always have your needles/drugs handy.

Smiling just makes everyones day better :)

Once you know what to avoid, it is less scary. Then you have to be diligent in reading labels and learning how to avoid trigger foods. I've been doing this for 2 months and I don't think about it much anymore. It's a lifestyle change and I've managed to adapt pretty quickly. Hang in there and find out what you're allergic to. The rest will work itself out.

Hi.
Ijust found out that I have multiple sensitivities to food 2 months ago. I went through a period og being afraid to eat, because I didn't know what was causing my symptoms. Once I knew what to avoid, things got much better. I still get symptoms, but they are minor now. And I lost 15 lbs.
