I, fortunately, live in Florida and get plenty of sunshine everyday. I'm careful to avoid overexposure and wear sunscreen if I know I'm going to be out in it for several hours. In the winter I would like to supplement with D3, but have been having trouble finding it around here. I don't have to worry about it now that Spring is here and the days are longer.

Far away in the sunshine are my highest inspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead...

Lack of Sunshine Causes One Million Deaths a Year

If vitamin D3 levels among populations worldwide were increased, 600,000 cases of breast and colorectal cancers could be prevented each year, according to researchers from the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

This includes nearly 150,000 cases of cancer that could be prevented in the United States alone.

The researchers estimate that 250,000 cases of colorectal cancer and 350,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented worldwide by increasing intake of vitamin D3, particularly in countries north of the equator.

Vitamin D in Your Skin
Researchers have found that the production of previtamin D3 in your skin varies depending on several factors, which include skin type, weather conditions, and sunscreen use.

During the winter at altitudes above 35 degrees, there is minimal previtamin D3 production in the skin. Darker skin pigmentation, application of sunscreen, aging and clothing can also have a dramatic effect on previtamin D3 production.

I have always loved the sun, now I know why!
