Welcome!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Hey there :) Yes, it's a style of Kung Fu- lotsa fun. We did a Jeet Kune Do take on it- since I am a big guy, it was easier for me to use my arms, which is what most of Wing Chun entails. I recommend it :D

It's about the journey, not the destination right?
Wing Chun, is that a form of King Fu? I'm online (obviously) and could just 'google it' but I'd like to hear about it from someone that trained.
Thanks

My primary foundation is ATA Taekwondo, but as a part of our training (pretty progressive instructor) we did "mid terms" in different styles- I did a fair amount of Wing Chun, a touch of grappling (not easy for a 300lb guy- thought I was going to die), and a sampling of basic Capoeira (love it, wish I could have started it when I was like 4).

I'm big into freestyle weaponry - I'm known for my affinity for Nunchaku (I have videos on youtube), some in Eskrima sticks, and getting more into Balisong tricks.

In a perfect world- after I shrink a bit more, I'd get back into either TKD or Wing Chun. I don't care about getting a particular belt ranking- I just want to get back into it! I miss the classes!

I instruct Combined Wisdom Kung Fu and also currently hold an advanced red belt in Tae Kwon Do and a purple belt in Goju Ryu Karate. I will be testing in 2 weeks for my brown belt in TKD.
I own a school in North Fond du Lac, WI where I instruct and also am a student. Our school teaches the above listed along with Kobudo, Iaido and Escrima.

Hi everyone!

I'm training in JJJ in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada.
Great club that regularly rounds out our training with aspects of other styles .
Lots of optional summer sessions going on right now that specialize in other forms bringing in experienced people in those areas.
Great fun.

And at home try and wear your jeans and work the bag, wear your regular shoes and get used to the feeling that way if you happen to ,god forbid, have to use your training you won't be caught off guard while not in a dojo enviroment.

At home shoes are a must! I usually practice in my carport on the cement concrete stuff (whatever it is, it hurts). I'm fine on carpet. I always take my shoes and socks off on my carpet but I concentrate better outside. Part of my issue is a foot injury, well multiple injuries in the same foot, I'm going to work up to barefoot on the gym floor and in the mean time look for better shoes for outside.

On another note...I'm testing for green on Wednesday!! :)

In my humble opinion if your school allows it, always work out barefoot (assuming a floor that is OK for barefoot). Building up your feet so they can work without any support is awesome. AND, if you live in an icy area even with shoes on it makes a big difference in avoiding slipping and falling I think.

I kept meaning to check back in here but got mentally lost in my school finals. Very excited for a break.

I am in Daegu, South Korea this week and it's so pretty! Visited the tallest tower in Asia (which I can see from base) and tomorrow we're going to the top!!! Going to have dinner in the revolving restaurant so we can get a beautiful view of Daegu (3rd largest city in Korea) on my hubbys bday. Only responsibilites I have this week are 1) practice for green belt test; 2) relax and pay attn to my body's needs; and 3) have fun while seeing new things. Perfect week!

I do have a question about shoes. Are they suppose to be so baggy (not sure of a more appropriate term)? Mine are actually bigger by number then I normally wear but my master swears they are the right size. Another female performs barefoot because she hates her shoes and she's black belt so it's best for her to remain use to practicing barefoot. I'm wondering how shoes SHOULD fit for better turning and pivoting. It's really hard when my shoe does not turn in form with my foot.

Krazeewolf,
I started ATA Taekwondo 2 years ago. I am now 48 and will be testing for my black belt in October. I have fibromyalgia which affects my equilibrium so my balance is off. It also affects my muscles so I am not the strongest one in class. While it is a struggle, I can definitely tell improvements from 6 months ago, 1 year ago, ect. We currently have numberous white, orange and yellow belts in our class that are 40 years and up.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

I'm here for me and no one else but me. However, it will be everyone who will benefit from a better me. And, I love them the same.

I currently train in Budo Taijutsu.

I started in the martial atrs 30 some odd years ago, taking Karate classes when I was around 12 or 13. In the years since then I have migrated through Shaolin styles (like springing leg), Tai Chi and TKD. I find Taijutsu suits me very well, focusing on body mechanics, slightly similar to Judo and Tai Chi.

Very glad to see that this team seems active, and I'm looking forward to contributing my training hours to the group goals!

I practice Northern Mantis Kung Fu. My Sifu says we'd better practice everywhere... so I do. the photo-copy room oddly enough has about 15 feet of form space, and a decently high ceiling. My back driveway has plenty of flat space to do weapons, and Bung Bu and Luan Jie fit everywhere..

Seido karate in Maryland. I've been studying since 2002 and received my shodan in June of '08. Hoping to go for my Nidan in the summer of '12. Normally doesn't take that long, but I took about a year off with a shoulder injury/surgery.

Been a student of Tae Kwon Do and Combat Hapkido for 16 years here in Kentucky. 2nd Dan in Tae Kwon Do, two belts away from that in Combat Hapkido, various weapons training. Taught at the school that I train at and did PR/Marketing work for it for two years before my Ex-Husband started causing problems so I left to spare the dojang his troubles. But that is over and I'm back at that same school training again. :)

Isshinryu Karate near Louisville, Kentucky. I've been with this instructor for about five years. I had my shodan test last August.

Nisei karate and Tai Chi Chuan, in beautiful British Columbia. We're very fortunate to have a Nisei club in our strata and a community hall to practice in.

I used to belong to the Taoist Tai Chi Association but they're totally ignoring the martial arts aspect and it was just too one-sided for me. My sensei is also a Tai Chi practitioner so we take some time before or after karate classes to practice together.
