When my son was in Taiwan teaching English, he took some Chinese classes. He mentioned that it is very difficult to write because of the many characters!

I get very annoyed when Chinese speaking ppl ask what race I am just because I don't speak Chinese very well. Well, it isn't my fault! It's the Malaysian education system that places more emphasis on Malay. In fact, I am one of the lucky ones with English speaking parents, therefore I also have a good standard of English as well as Malay.

I did try going for Chinese classes when I was younger but gave up because it was too difficult. Each character is different, in Chinese there is no ABC, you have to memorize thousands of different characters!

It's like these old folk are implying that I don't qualify to call myself Chinese if I can't speak Chinese well! Well, that's bigotry!

And I am also sick of people asking me why I carry 2 or 3 bags to the dialysis center. I have my reasons, and I don't think it's necessary for them to ask!
