I don't have any children or grandchildren. So, I can't answer that question. BUT, I do want to THANK YOU NELLIE, for your answers to my questions about sleep study and hearing TESTING. I just had both tests. I know my hearing is just fine. That is good news. I was worried because I can't hear in my left ear when talking on the telephone. I have not gotten my results on the Sleep Study. Will hear about those results next week. I'll check back in here then.

I'm not going to pose a question. SO, hopefully the next person will be able to answer NELLIE'S QUESTION about children or grandchildren?

Yes, I have had a hearing test twice. Once about 10 years ago when the tester said I had better hearing than most people. However, one I had about 2 years ago, they said I have a slight hearing loss. I suspect I will not be buying any hearing aids unless I get much more loss. A lady who had to have hearing aids for both ears once told me that they can get painful after while. I have enough pain in my life!

For those of you with either children or grandchildren, what is one of the amusing things they do?

I LOVE walking in the leaves and kicking them as I walk through them emoticon The smell and the crackle reminds me of my childhood. I also love drinking cider. I suppose I could do that at other times of the year. BUT, I don't seem to notice cider at other times of the year. It is EVERYWHERE I look now. YUM I love it warm with Cinnamon.

Yes, we were in the Army and when we got out there were a couple good friends who quit writing to me, over time. I've tried in the recent past to make contact again, but have had no success. emoticon

No, I won't wear a costume. In fact, since I live downstairs from my daughter, she will probably handle most of the trick-or-treaters except for the brief time she takes her little girl just around the immediate neighborhood. I don't know if I will be in charge at that time or if her husband will be. (Perhaps Jason can be roped into it!)

Looking back on your life, are there any friends you have lost track of that you would like to contact again?

At last, I am back again. I will get my Sleep Study results next week. I'm looking forward to the info. I do know I need a CPAP machine.. Tomorrow, I am getting my hearing checked. I have trouble hearing on the telephone in my left ear. So, I'd like to get that fixed if I can. I find myself putting the speaker phone on because I can hear better. That is NOT always convenient when we have company. emoticon

Yes, I have had a sleep study and it was very helpful. They found that I woke 44 times during the night. I told them that was strange, because it felt like I had slept better there in the peace and quiet than in the zoo that was my house at the time. The result was to have me take an antidepressant that supplies serotonin. It has been a great help.

Has anyone "eloped" in your family to avoid the hassle of a fancy wedding?

Hi Nellie, I agree with your comment about my loved one and an attack from Satan. I believe that he attacks all that love God and work against the enemy. Thank you for saying it again.

Let's see the question is how many breed of dogs. At the moment we only have one dog and he is a Chi-weenie. A cross between a Chihuahua and A Dachshund. Great personality, we are sure enjoying him. Way back in the 70s, we had 4 or 5 breeds of dogs in the house. 1.German Shepard, 2. Golden Lab, 3. Black Lab/Doberman MIX, 4.Australian Shepard, 5. a MUT At the time, everybody in the house wanted to have their own special dog. WHAT a ZOO!!!

What is my QUESTION? Have you taken a sleep study?

The reason I asked about rioting is that one summer when I lived in Houston, there were race riots and I could hear the gun shots where I lived. Also the area I lived was a mostly white enclave in the midst of a huge black area, and the numbskulls that lived in the trailer park where I was would taunt the black people who came to collect garbage, etc. Not exactly reassuring!

I am most definitely over 40, but so far my hair is not thinning. Though a while back I made the mistake of getting some hair spray and it made my hair brittle so it broke off! Grrrrr! I do remember my grandmother's hair getting thin in her 80s and she just left it natural, so that is probably what I will do, if it comes to that.

I, too, almost forgot the question. Do you have more than one breed of dog?

I lived in Australia for about 2 years. I was back in Malaysia every Summer Holiday though, becoz it's a long break of 2 months. For that I'm thankful! Believe it or not, summer in Brisbane is worse than the hottest day in Malaysia!

I was in Australia pursuing a degree in IT. Well, I got my degree after many sleepless nights and hard work but I'm not working today becoz : 1) I wasn't that good in computer programming anyway 2) I got sick! Of all the ppl in the world, I got SLE. It's fairly rare. I still think it's so unfair for me to get it! I know so many ppl who got obese from overeating, but they didn't get sick, like I did! Sometimes, I feel God is punishing me for being too ambitious and selfish (I was a totally different person back when I was studying).

I hope I don't offend anyone by the obese comment, but that's honestly they way I feel. Why can't God let me put on weight, that's better than having to deal with SLE and dialysis! I honestly feel that God singled me out to torture me! Ok, that's enough! I'd better stop now b4 I blaspheme the Lord!............

Oops! Nearly forgot the question!

My question : This is for those above 40 : Is your hair thinning? Would you ever wear a wig? Or would you just go natural and show off your balding head of hair?

I'm happy to say that I have never been in a place that was rioting. It is awful enough just seeing it on TV.

Have you ever lived in a foreign country? Why were you there?

Many years ago I was in first El Paso when there was a terrible flood. It even made the banks of the Rio Grande overflow. Then several years after that I was in Houston when there was a flood. Later in Rhode Island my family had to go to a school for shelter from a hurricane.

Have you ever been in a place where there was rioting?

As for why your relative went through that experience, I suspect Satan works extra hard to bother people he feels ignore him.

Yes, I do have a family member that had this kind of experience. We are so fortunate and releaved that he was able to get the help he needed and has recovered and is working. What surprises me, is that he is one of the kindest and sweetest people I know in this world. Why did he have to go through such a horrible experience?

That is my youngest grandson that I met for the first time that day. My former DIL brought him to meet his WA state relatives. He was slightly under a year in that picture and his name is Brady. I feel sort of wistful about him and his brother Keith since I suspect we won't see them much or even ever again.

Have you ever had personal experience with someone who has delusions that are vivid enough that they mess up their life? Such a situation can be very sad for everyone involved.

Yes, my niece has a daughter from a previous marriage. I think in technical terms, she would be her step-daughter. HOWEVER, because family and the relationship between her sons and their sister was SO important to her. She always called her, her daughter and treated her as such. I am so impressed by my niece. She has always seemed to see through the nonsense in this world.

Hi Nellie, I wonder if you would tell me about the child you are holding in your photo. I wonder is it your grandson or granddaughter?? and how old??

PS I've got my fingers crossed that Nellie is the next person to post in this Thread. emoticon

Up until I moved here over a year ago, I had several. However, when I knew I would be moving and had to downsize, now what I have is useful. (I personally hate the time change. Since more people die around that time who are health impaired, I think it is actually harmful. I have my schedule so I just move the time I wake up back when the clock is turned back and forward when the clock is turned forward.)

When my daughter with whom I am living gets married soon, her little girl will have a new "grandmother" (the mother of the fiance). Does anyone in your family have those kinds of extended relationships?

Yes, I had a sleep study quite a few years ago, and the results were very informative to me. I woke up 44 times during the night. The suggestions and prescription I was given have helped tremendously. Recently the prescription was switched to a similar medication since they said too many years on the first one wouldn't be good.

I discovered about 3 years ago that Pap smears are no longer recommended at my "advanced" age since all the previous ones were fine. Do you still have to have those?

I guess we're fortunate in Malaysia because we have freshly cooked food at reasonable prices everywhere we go. So, we don't have to rely on TV dinners. Plus TV dinners here cost more than the freshly cooked food, so most people would rather go out for a meal than to buy TV dinners!

My question : Do you ever envy anyone? Right now, I'm envying girls with waist-long hair. I don't think my hair will ever get that long! I also envy girls with perfect complexions, my face are full of acne scars. Not that bad, but still, I don't have a perfectly smooth complexion. I know it's a sin to envy others but I can't help the way I feel! Do you ever feel that way?

Almost had a bad car accident, I was fortunate enough to get the car in control and back on the road. We made it home, what a blessing. Our guardian angels MUST have taken control of the wheel and saved us from a horrible accident. Of course my care was full of teenagers returning home from a basketball game.

Yes, I have had a few surgeries, BUT only one was serious. In 2004, I had to have brain surgery to repair a brain aneurysm. The surgery was successful to repair the aneurysm, when I was in the recovery room my carotid artery dissected and caused a stroke. Had to have an emergency artery bypass surgery. Left a large scar on my neck, I am thankful every day that by the grace of God I am alive and able to walk and talk again after being paralyzed on my left side. God is Good.

I have reached my goal. I haven't splurged on new clothes and probably the only time I will get new clothes is when the old ones get so threadbare that I can't wear them or are so loose I need to roll the waistband up. I wear an ostomy appliance, so my waistband has to go above my "waist" so it doesn't hurt the ostomy.

Have you ever had serious surgery? More than once?

I don't wear makeup often. But I do occasionally when I go for Bible study or for church if I wake up early enough. Sometimes, I do wear makeup when I go to the mall or dinner or something, but most of the time I'm lazy. I do own some makeup but I recently threw out a load of outdated lipstick. Sigh! What a waste! So, I hardly buy new makeup these days. Waste of money to have them sitting around and ending up smelling weird so I have to toss it!

My question : How's your weight loss? Do you plan to splurge on new cute clothes when you reach your target?

Nope, no acrylic nails ever and I don't do my nails other than periodic cutting shorter and filing. No nail polish either. Many, many years ago I either wore a pale pink or metallic looking white.

Do you wear makeup? If not, how long ago did you give it up?

Yes, I would cut my hair very short. I have had it really really short in the past. For my 50th birthday I had my hair colored and loved it. I was working and making good money, so I went to the hair salon every 6 weeks for a cut and color. I guess I was spending a good deal of money. MORE than I would think of spending now. I don't go at all. My DH cuts my hair now and I don't color at all. I'm going natural. I am celebrating making it to 60 with all the changes that come with it.

Do you have acrylic nails or have you??

Do you get your nails done??? What colordo y ou wear?

My fave color is yellow!

Bcoz it's so bright and sunshiny!

Would u dare to cut your hair really short? Like a modern angled bob? What if u had square jaws? Would u still do it? On a related note, would u spend a lot on salon visits?

My car is beige-ish and sort of metallic finish. The main thing I would change about it is the long dent that someone in a parking lot left for me. While it is not my favorite color, it was free since my youngest son got it in a car trading deal for me.

Speaking of favorite colors, what is your favorite color?

I rarely buy things for me, especially clothing. Only when I need things. And a lot of times even when I need things, I will put off for a long time getting them. I just do not consider myself important........never have.

What color is your vehicle? Is it a 2 or 4 door? If there were something you could change about it, what would it be?

I have a metallic burnt orange (not florescent) car, it is a 4 door hatchback. I'd like to change the steering wheel being so low. It has a lever that you can make it higher or lower, but it still is not high enough for me.

My usual daily clothing when I out and about is usually jeans and a T. I normally don't wear skirts, I do have a couple casual skirts, and some office style clothing but I seldom wear them. At home, I'm usually in shorts and a T. I have gazillions of Ts!!!! My entire closet is full of Ts!!!!

My question : would you buy something you don't really need just because it's pretty? I know you probably won't if you hadn't some spare cash, but what if you did? Or would you save the spare cash for when you REALLY need it?

Is your usual daily clothing something with skirts or something with pants?

I'm just going to keep the bra question going.??? I HATE BRAS too. And, I would NEVER wear a bra, had I not been endowed with the largest mammary glands on earth. There are times when I just MUST wear a bra. I feel naked around the kids in the family if I go without one. I only buy a bra that has the clasps in the front. trying to pull it around in the summer when I have so much moisture on my body is just pure torture. emoticon

I hate bras. But I am very large and would no way go out into public without one. I am so hard to fit, that I have no desire to have "pretty" ones. Mine are usually basic white. And I have only 5 of them. I were them till they are just about falling apart and the buy someone more of the very same kind. As long as they support me and give me the least amount of pain, I do not care what they look like.

I'm one of those eccentric old ladies who no longer wears bras. If I need to disguise the outline, I wear an undershirt. I tend not to buy anything unless I really need it.

Flowers no, but fruits yes!

My grandma used to grow custard apples!!!!

I will keep picking them and eating them as soon as they got ripe, but then, one day a goat came in and ate the whole plant!!!! I'm not kidding! The whole plant!!!! I was sooo mad at that goat!!!! LOL!

I know I'm not exactly answering the question, but this question reminded me of my grandma and her custard apple tree!!!!

What happens if you have enough underwear but then you see some really good deals on some really pretty bras? Would you still buy them or save your money for when your underwear REALLY falls apart!? I know, I'm crazy!!!! LOL!

I don't recall seeing someone who looked exactly like someone else. I have been told by a couple of people that I reminded them of someone else however.

Are there flowers that remind you of your childhood? I know that around my grandmother's house there were usually morning glories and pansies, so I particularly like those flowers.

Yes! I get destracted very easily. I hate it, but that is the way it is. Before about 5 years ago I did not have a problem in this area.

emoticon Have you ever seen anyone who looked exactly like some you knew, except twins? emoticon
Right after my dad passed away my mom & I were shopping for groceries and saw a man walk down a isle toward us and go past. He looked exactly like my dad. Same build, height, weight, skin tone, gaint of walking, even wore the same style clothes & hat. When mom & I quickly turned around to see the back of him, he was gone. I ran down the isle and looked down both the other isles beside the one we saw him in. I am not kidding you all when I tell you that he just vanished into the air. The hair was standing up on my arms & back of my neck. Mom thinks it was an angel telling us that dad was in heaven and ok.

Well, I currently live by the mountains. We have enjoyed hiking in the mountains and camping too. It is nice to get away from all the people and enjoy the sounds and silence of nature. It is nice and cool when we get up in the mountains another PLUS.

In my youth I would have liked to live by the ocean. I was a sun worshiper and enjoyed swimming too. But, with the motion pictures and all the scary shark movies, that is not on my fun list of things to do. NO GO NO MORE!!!

BULLET HAD ALREADY BEEN NAMED WHEN WE GOT HIM AT THE AGE OF TWO.

LADY WAS APTLY NAMED BECAUSE SHE HAS THE MANERISMS OF A LADY. SHE IS GENTLE, NOT AGRESSIVE/PUSHY/DEMANDING.

MAGIC WAS PICKED OUT BY BOTH OUR DD'S. I AM NOT SURE WHY THE CHOOSE MAGIC......POSSIBLE BECAUSE SHE WAS TOTAL BLACK, INCLUDING HER EYES.

TEENY (RIP MY LITTLE BABY GIRL) WAS THE SMALLEST PUPPY IN HER LITER. SHE WAS A TEENY BABY. BUT GREW UP TO BE ON THE HIGHER END OF THE SCALE FOR A RAT TERRIER.

WE LIVED IN TULSA WHEN TULSA WAS BORN...THUS HER NAME.

SHEL IS A TORTIUSSHELL CAT....SO SHEL.

MISTCHIEF HAD HIS NAME WHEN WE RESCUED HIM FROM A HORRIBLE OWNER.

GIZMO WAS A SICK & FLEA RIDDEN LITTLE KITTEN WHEN WE GOT HIM. HE JUST REMINDED ME OF GIZMO ON THE MOVIE "THE GRIMLINS".

BOB-CAT (RIP MY LITTLE BOY) WAS NAMED THIS BECAUSE HE WAS A MANX CAT. HE HAD THE MARKINGS, BUILD, COLORING AND ATTITUDE (SOMETIMES) JUST LIKE A WILD BOB-CAT.

WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE BY THE MOUNTAINS OR A LARGE BODY OF WATER? WHY?

It depends on whether we are on Standard time or Daylight Savings Time (horrible). On standard time, I can get my nap and go on Sundays and Wednesdays (for Bible Study). On Daylight Savings time, those activities fall in my nap time, so I don't go since I don't want to have an accident while driving or fall asleep during church or Bible study.

I did use to like Saturdays as a more relaxed day. Now my days are fairly similar, so each day is a gift.

As for worrying about the future, sometimes I worry. I am living in the house of my daughter who is a nurse, but she plans on marrying soon to an Army guy, so I know at some point she will move with him. She says at this point she is planning on keeping this house, and asking my oldest daughter to take care of it, so that would work too. Otherwise who knows. I try not to worry and when I do, I pray and give it to God.

When you were growing up, did a relative older than your parents have a significant influence in your life?

When I was growing up, I wanted to be doctor. But it's no go as I'm didn't do well in Physics and Chemistry, though I did do fairly well in Biology but it's still no go as I'm too afraid of blood and body parts and such, so I can't be a doctor.

I ended up doing IT instead, but I wasn't very successful with that either!

My question : Do you ever worry about the future? Like when you get too old to care for yourself? Can you rely on your kids? What if you're single, like me?

Yes, but not nearly as badly as many years ago. My first mammogram was in my forties and I was still nursing my youngest son. Now that I am in my sixties and the "balloons are deflated" it doesn't hurt nearly so much.

Spring or Fall are the most ideal seasons for me. In Colorado, these 2 seasons are the least extreme and the most enjoyable for me. I love walking this time of year. I also enjoy the changing colors of the leaves in Fall and the flowers blooming in the Spring is amazing. emoticon

I have never had to surrender a pet legally, but when I was about to move in with my daughter, she said that she really didn't want any largish dogs since she doesn't like the odor of dogs. So since the only one I had at that time was Caspian that I was caring for since my oldest son was living in places where he couldn't have his dog, I asked my youngest son to take him. When my youngest son started having problems with his marriage, then Catherine said to me, "Do you think you could care for Caspian here?" I said I could and now he is here with me. It is nice that Jason is staying here for a while, since he can enjoy his dog!

What kind of weather do you feel is ideal?
