That is true, Jamer, yes, when you purchase a share you are betting on the weather and that it will be a good year for crops. I've only participated in this one time. My experience was a good one lots of great veggies, and very fresh and full of flavor. And, less expensive than had we purchased from the grocery.

And, although there are two of us, we felt like you Nellie, just TOO much food. Would want to go in with someone before I would do it again.

Having been raised on the farm and have sold a large variety of product every summer but not having people buy shares, I am not sure who would come out with the best deals. So I would say no but I certainly would buy from the farmer if they have things to sell. I would guess you would be betting on the weather and whether the drops are good or poor just like the farmer does.

Since I purchase just for myself, I don't think I would do that unless other people were in on the share.

I never heard of that concept before, but I think it is a great idea and would support it if available to me.

Have you or do you support "CSA" (Community Supported Agriculture) This is something I just learned about last year. A farm sells shares to the community to help support the farm in exchange you receive produce for your share. Each farm has a different amount it sells as shares and the amount of produce you receive for it. Some also have eggs, free range chickens, beef etc. Honey, fruits chutney jams, etc.

It was more food than we could eat. So my DH did not want to purchase a share this year. I thought we should do it because the produce was so much fresher than that in the grocery and had more flavor and would hold up longer and better. I think it is a wonderful way to support local farmers and to reduce pesticides and GMOS.

What do you think?
Would you purchase a share if you could?
