Yes, we stay home too. We usually have a dear friend of mine over to spend the night and watch movies and snack on goodies, but she is out of town this year so it will just be DH and I, our furbabies, and a couple of movies. With goodies ofcourse, just not as many! LOL. What could be better than an evening with those you love and contentment? :)
Happy New Year everyone.

Hi, Friends! The closeups of my lace shawl are now up on my blog!

I've been depressed these days bcoz I've been putting on a little weight. Even my dialysis dry weight (the weight that we aim for after treatment) has gone up by 0.5 to 1kgs! I really have to watch it and make myself exercise regularly but I just love snacking! And I also love the junk food! Sigh! I know I literally just can't live if I cut them out altogether so I just have them less often.

I've also been having problems in dialysis lately. With low bp and anxiety attacks towards the final hour bcoz I've been extracting 3kgs or more! So, I will have to really watch the fluid intake! It must be so nice to be able to drink as much as you want, but that's something that I just can't do anymore!

One trick I have to keep the water and food weight down is to eat sandwiches for my meals. I get a ciabata roll or some sprouted bread, I spread some olive oil margarine on one side, then put a piece of turkey ham or back bacon on it, the put several romaine lettuce leaves on it, put the other piece of bread on or insert into the ciabata and lunch/dinner is served! I only get ciabata ocassionally though. But I love ciabata, but I'll have to go to one of those fancy bakeries to get it. So it's usually just ordinary bread, I've been trying to switch to sprouted bread for health and weight loss reasons but 1) it's more expensive 2) I just can't give up white bread, especially crusty baguettes!

I really hope that the DVD player comes back from the repair shop soon! I really, really have to do my workout DVDs again! There's something wrong with my PC's DVD player as well! But I don't want to send it for repairs when I'm actually trying to replace the CPU because it's way antiquated! About 7 year's old or more! So, repairing the DVD player on the CPU just isn't worth it when I'm planning to buy a new one soon! Just have to convince Dad.....teehee!!! Isn't it awful the way technology keeps changing! You just are forced to replace the CPU every few years to keep up with the times and the net! The net just keeps getting more and more bandwidth hungry! Old machines just can't keep up and we keep having to buy new ones!

Well, it's New Year's Eve today and I can't go anywhere bcoz there are massive crowds EVERYWHERE!!!! Everyone wants to go to the mall today! My Mom drove me there and we couldn't even park, so we went home again! Hope everyone has a swell new year's!

Hugs,
Elaine

Wow, it's sure quiet around here. I haven't done much computer lately. 2014 will be better.

I'm thinking of all of you on our team as I climb into my warm bed tonight, and feeling grateful for the little things. Tomorrow night, NYE, I'm making out my grateful list and goals for next year. Yep, I've been doing that for about 50 years now. Starts the new year out with a positive feeling.

STARR, I'm thinking special thoughts for you...........

Oh, Starr, that ring sounds absolutely beautiful and also he obviously put alot of thought into it. What a wonderful gift, a treasure for your heart.
I am glad you are finding a "routine" of sorts. Lisa's idea is a very good one. Even a cheap spiral notebook can work. You might want to write down the "daily/hourly" list of meds, things needed to do, then day names across the top and you can just check each thing off as you do it so you don't wonder if you've missed something. When I was here alone and in such pain from my back that I was in a haze I was sooooo afraid I would not know if I'd taken a med or not and overdose so I would write each day, then the time I took each med so I knew if I'd taken something and when. Even in my haze/daze it worked.
Love you sweetie. Hugs.

Starr the ring sounds beautiful!! I know you will cherish it always. I pray that you have the strength to be able to do what you need to, to help Alan. I hope you have it all written down. Make a time chart or get one of those hourly planners to write down what he needs at what time, or you may forget something. I really feel for you right now Starr. Its a huge undertaking you have taken on. We are all here if you need to "talk"

Have blessed New Year!!

emoticon emoticon emoticon all so very much for the prayers. All of them (as well as your all's friendship to me) are very much needed.

I am praying that ALL of us will have a MUCH better 2014. I've talked to SO many people the past few months in my city, all of whom, have said that 2013 has been an awful year and they are hoping for a better 2014.

Well, Alan is settled in now, and (as much as possible) a routine is set. Where I use to be able to leave him in his power chair at his computer or TV for 30 minutes to an hour, now he requires round-the-clock care. Now all of his many medications are staggered, to where just about every hour he is getting medications in his feeding tube, his treak is being suctioned or he is getting liquid nutrition in his feeding tube. It is all very over whelming, and I know that if it were not for the help of my eldest DD, his private pay home-health care aide & God, there would be NO way that I would be able to do this and have him at home.....where he wants to be. THANK you Lord, for everything!

My Alan gave me a white gold ring for Christmas. It has LOVE written in the middle of the ring, and in the middle of the word is a heart-shaped diamond. On either side of the word are 4 smaller diamonds. On top of one set of diamonds is written his name and on the bottom of the other set of diamonds is written my name. It is beautiful. I'll cherish it as much as my wedding rings.

I've prayed that you all will have a wonderful & blessed rest of the weekend, and a emoticon end of 2013/beginning of 2014.

Much emoticon & emoticon to you ALL,
~~Starr~~

Hello there to all my precious friend..............I hope that everyone is headed into a great weekend.

Well, for all that care to know, here is an update on my dear Alan.

Dr. did a MRI on him the day before yesterday and found that, along with the awful disease of IBM, he also has ALS. Said that no amount of physical therapy is going to help him. So he told the doctor that he wants to go onto hospice care and go home to his family.

So, as I am typing this, arrangements are being made for him to be transferred from the Veteran's hospital (90 minutes away) to home. Hospice care delivered the oxygen and other medical supplies that he needs, earlier this morning. And the next knock on the door will be a pharmacy delivering all this medications. Not long after he arrives and the paramedics get him set up and settled into bed, a RN from Hospice Care will be here to tell us everything that we need to know.

Alan's home health care aide has been with us, as much as she can, thru this entire roller coaster of a ride this past two weeks. I praise God for her everyday.

Me........I feel like I have been thrown into a lake of water and am trying to figure out how to find my way to the surface so that I can take a breath of air.

I'm sorry this is so short and to the point, but not really in the frame of mind to type much more.

I love and think about you all daily. Thank you ALL for the very much appreciated prayers.

emoticon to all,

:) Elaine.

Working on the dessert for tomorrow. It is going to be RICH and very, very DECADENT!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Mint Brownie and Oreo Hot Fudge Trifle with Minty Cream Cheese Whipped Cream

Ingredients:
Brownies:
9X13 pan of brownies, cut into small cubes (see note - you only will use about 3/4 of the pan of brownies)
Mint Cream Cheese Whipped Cream:
8 ounces cream cheese, light or regular, softened
3 cups heavy whipping cream
1-2 teaspoons mint extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Oreos and Hot Fudge:
25 mint Oreos, coarsely chopped
1/2 - 3/4 cup hot fudge sauce, warmed slightly

Directions

For the whipped cream, in a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese with about 1/2 cup of the whipped cream until the mixture is smooth. Add the mint extract and the remainder of the whipped cream gradually. Mix on high speed until the cream is whipped and the mixture is very thick and creamy.
In a glass trifle dish (or large glass bowl), place in 1/3 of the brownies then 1/3 of the whipped cream, spreading evenly to the edges. Next sprinkle in a little more than 1/3 of the Oreos (about 10 chopped) and finally drizzle with 1/3 of the hot fudge sauce.
Repeat that same layering process two more times (the only difference is that I only used about 4 chopped Oreos for the very final layer - so the first two layers use about 10 chopped Oreos each).
Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Here's my Christmas haul for today! :

A nice beaded hairband
An interesting looking chicklit book
One of those hair towels you wear during facials to keep your hair back.
Some nice lavender talcum powder.

Nice, eh?

Carol, I so glad you had so much fun at the after Christmas sales! Lol! I haven't gone yet as it would be too tempting to spend all of my secret stash! I'm saving my mulah for something(s) more worthwhile. I also need to set aside some money for my hair treatments. I can only afford one package. I'm also planning a pedi/meni session as a reward for losing some of my bellyfat! Lol! Yup, my belly has crept up on me due to too much feasting!

I received 3 more pressies today! I haven't opened them yet as it is considered rude in most Asian countries to open pressies in front of the givers. So, I will only open them when I get home! Let u know later! I'm actually a leeeeetle sad that Christmas is over for this year though but I am looking forward to Chinese New Year as it means more cash for me! Lol! I've made up my mind to stop the feasting NOW though! Or my clothes won't fit anymore! My Mom has also made up her mind not to buy CNY cookies and various fried goodies. The only thing she'll be buying, I guess are those expensive pieces of bbq pork as my Dad and me LOVES them, but I'll have to excercise restraint as they are super fatty but oh! sooooooo delish!

Happy New Year, everyone! I've already decided on no feasting for new year too! Lol!

We haven't really had our Christmas yet. Yesterday was at DH's side and we each get 1 item from his mother. We just exchanged some small items ourselves last night. Our "real" Christmas gift-wise will be Sat. So I don't know what my favorite thing will be. I did get a cute bulldog ornament from 2 of my piano students (brother/sister) and a gorgeous vase and jewelry box from a dear friend (I gave her a chihuahua puppy a year or more ago) and her 2 daughters who are/were all my piano students. Both are engraved with my initial/name! So that is a lovely gift, waaaay too much for sure from them. She's an absolute sweetheart. They couldn't afford one of my puppies, and now and then it's nice to "pay it forward". :)

I have been having my own "give myself a Christmas gift/s" time. Lordy, have I been having FUN!!! Yikes. Then to top it off I did my usual "day after Christmas" and went crazy as usual!!! Lots of gifts for next year, my stash of Tabu perfume for myself (and some powder), b-day gifts for my 2 granddaughters, some choc. covered blueberries for "just because" when he's least expecting it, etc. Then I went to Michael's with my gift card from my b-day and had a grand old time there too, also getting some Christmas stuff at 70% off plus some art items.
I did meet a "fellow" at Walmart that was instant love, and Have-to-have. Silly, just what I need more Christmas decos, but he (snowman) is sooooo cute and he'll look soooo cute sitting outside by my new front door next year. So, he came home with me. DH wasn't jealous at all. :( Hahaha!

The nicest present I got was a "hand me up" since I had asked my youngest daughter if she could get me a radio/tape player/CD player. She asked if it was OK to give me one she no longer uses, and I said sure! It is a lot bigger than I was anticipating, but definitely is nice and gets the job done!

Merry Christmas, everyone! Did you get nice pressies? So far, I got a pair of warm little socks, 2 little Christmas ornaments (2 little snowmen holding little Christmas trees), and 2 tubes of toothpaste from the church! I may be getting a few more this Friday, but we'll see.....

I went for dialysis on Christmas day after all. I actually wanted to go on Thursday, but I felt bloated on Christmas day, so I decided to go home and change and my Dad sent me to the dialysis center. The church and the dialysis center are very close and they are close to my home as well, which is a blessing!

I did drop by the dialysis center earlier in the middle of the Christmas lunch to show off my dress, lol! The nurses were so captivated by my appearance! They said I look like a Hong Kong film star! lol! They all wanted to take pics with me. They haven't sent me the pics yet. I will post my Christmas pics soon, when I get them!

Hugs,
Elaine

MERRY, MERRY, BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF U......MY SWEET FRIENDS.

Today is day 14 of Alan being in ICU. Although thwy have him well from the infection and off the resperator, he's now having other problems. Because of the severe pain of the ALS,he is on very high doses of pain medi ation. And when they put him back on the doses that he was taking at home, it decreases his respiration and blood pressure way too low. Also, his stomach is not tolerating the feeding tube feedings, no matter how little they give him or over how long of a time. And, as if all that is not enough, his boul is not working properly either. They found today, the reason he is so misserable with pain, is that his stomach is not absorbibg the liquid tube feedingd, but it is not absorbibg his pain medications either!!!!!

Alans home heqlth nurse, her DH and both r DD's will b here at the hospital 2 celebrate Christmas..
The day Alan was transferd to the VA hospital, our oldest went and bought a mini christmas tree, complete with miniature decorations and lights, garland, bows and bulbs to decorage alans hospital room. Everyone who sees iit is coments at how beautiful alans room looks for Christmas.

Merry Christmas Eve to you all. It's a nice quiet day here. DH and I plan on dinner and a movie at home tonight. Tomorrow Christmas Day I am cooking a pork tenderloin well trimmed of fat. Lots of veggies. I got to talk to DS, she's depressed during the holidays since her divorce from marriage of 42 years. I tried to cheer her up, didn't work so well either. It's the same old story most parents have, the kids are all grown up and have busy lives and kids of their own and little time left over for Mom and Dad. I get it though. It's their time to shine. I'm just happy and content knowing they are having a nice life.

Went to physical therapy monday, sure makes my back muscles so very sore. DH rubbed Icy Hot on my back, then I used a heating pad. Feels a bit better today. I go back this Friday. I can do everything they do there, here at home, so I am wondering why I have to pay 25.00 a visit for what I can do on my own. Will be talking with my MD about that.

STARR, I'm sure happy your Alan is doing better. Hopefully he can get stronger at the VA LTC facility. I keep you all in my prayers. Always. Actually I pray for all of us.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!!! emoticon emoticon

I was supposed to go to the mother church for Christmas Eve service but my ride got sick this morning and everyone else is busy. So, it looks like it'll be a quiet Christmas Eve for me. Gotta get all dressed up for worship duty tmrw. I hope they haven't lost the song sheets or I'll be in trouble!

Hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying the season. It's going waaaay too fast for me this year. Didn't even have time to bake any cookies, not that we need them! LOL But that is one of my favorite things this time of year and I missed out. :(

Hi everyone. I hope u all are doing great. Just a little up date from me on Alan.

Yesterday he got a blood transfusion, and is looking and says that he is feeling better just from that. So, today they have leveled out his pain medication which REALLY makss him feel better.

Rhey are trying to slowley wean him off of the vent. He went some time without it both yesgerday and today.
Dr says that all his vitals and stats are looking much betted then they did 2 days ago
.

They say that if he is able 2 get off the vent, then can b transfered 2 thwe rehab unig here in the veterans hospital, which will work on him getting the strength back that he had befofe the horrible event. The dr sqid that he is doibg much betfer now then what he thought he was goibg 2 do when he first came into the hospital.
All i have to say is "the power of prayer" and alans will to live". Thank u jesus. And thank u ALL 4 youd many prayers. PL EASE KEEP THEM UP.

every one have a blessed weekend.

I will say a special prayer for Starr tonight! In fact I will keep on praying for her, she must be going thru a very tough time! Looks like it'll be a very quiet Christmas for me. I've already distributed my Christmas gifts. Can't afford nice gifts for everyone this year! Our corrupt government is raising taxes again! So, everything is increasing in price, I don't know how our nation is going to live! The poor will suffer, only the corrupt politicians will have fat pockets! It's sooooooo unfair!

I'll be singing on stage on Christmas day! I'll have to remember to take pics of myself with my lace shawl and post them on my blog! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Well, it sounds like you are going to have a Merry Christmas Nellie. I'm so glad it is working out so well for you and your new baby.

We had the Christmas "party" with mom last evening. It was really nice. Then home, watched a (bad) movie from the library and went to bed. That's about all our news. ;)

Oh, goodness, poor Starr and Alan!

My news isn't as dramatic. When I took my new rescue Yorkie to the vet today, I was wondering about the status of her being spayed. The person for the rescue said she was spayed, but her paperwork said she wasn't because of her age. So the vet was looking at the paperwork and said they could probably spay her. Then she was examining her and we discovered that she had sutures still on her tummy. The vet said that had to be from a recent spaying, and decided to remove the sutures since she looked to be sufficiently healed. I wasn't charged for the suture removal. I am very relieved that she is spayed. She is adjusting very nicely to being with me and my other pets. At first my cats were a little nervous around her but she made no move to chase them, so they are relaxed around her now.

Maintaining.

Got an email from Starr and I asked her how all was going and told her I'd recopy/paste for you all to hear the news as well. So here it is: I tried to fix the errors for her, I may have missed some...

A week ago tomofrow (sorry about spelling mishaps, im typinG on my smartphone, which has a tiny keyboard) Alan was taken , via ambulance, to the ER because of labored breathing. As soon as we got to the ER they put him on a c pap machine to breath for him. By the end of the day he still was able to breath on his own and his oxygen saturation was critically low. The ER doc told me that if there was not a tube put down his throat and a machine breath 4 him, he would die...so i told the doc that his living will says that he wants to be kept alive by artificial means, and the same with hydration and nutrition. So they put the tube down his throat and a temporary feeding tube. And taken 2 ICU. He spent 2 days in ICU sedated so that he could handle the tube being down his throat. At the third day they tried having him breath on his own, it was not successful. That night he was transfered by ambulance to the Veterans hospital, an hour away. The day after getting to the VA, they put a permanent treakeomity (sorry about that spelling). The day after that they put in a feeding tube in his stomach and also a central line
All these procedures having to b done is a direct result of his service connect disease. He has pneumonia now, 4 time since September and he also has MRSA.....WHICH IS A HIGHLY CONTAGEOUS infection. Hes getting double doses of antibiotics.

He is still in the ICU.

His blood count is low and consixering a blood transfusion tomorrow.
Ive been staing with him all day the past weeek. Then everh other night oldest DD spends the nigbt with him till i get back the next morning. The days that i cant go home to sleep are REALLY hard on Me.
I believe that my dear sweet hubby cheated death last Friday. So, even more so then usual,, i am cherishing every minute that i can get with him.
I love u all. Will try to check back in again in a day or two.
Hugs, starr

Phyllis, can you tell us what MRSA is?

Lisa,
yes, acid causing foods vs alkaline is an interesting subject to me. Although our body does have processes that keep the pH levels within a tight tolerance, my feelings about that is that when you eat to many acid causing foods, you end up being uncomfortable while your body levels the pH. That's why when you eat foods that require a lot of acids to digest (think bile for fat breakdowns and stomach hydrochloric acids) if you're like me at all, I tend then to get the reflux. Also, it seems like those foods take longer to leave the stomach which then tends to had the acid load nearly on top of the food, and then reflux is also more likely.
When I eat what I call simple food, and yes, reasonable portions (like you said they are smaller than we think) then I don't have reflux. I have never been able to eat what most people call a plate of food. My DH can and does eat 6x the amounts that I do at one sitting, and rarely suffers. His stomach must be bigger than a football. LOL.
Today's breakfast was pinto beans and brown rice 1/2 cup each and 1/4 cup cottage cheese, I was comfortable. Easy to digest.
In the past I also studied what portions should be. I've always been comfortable with that amount of food. My problem is when DH brings home a whole Key Lime Pie, cookie package for me, or a 24 oz Beer. I call those the irresistibles. I have NO restraint with Key Lime Pie and will eat the whole thing over a 24 hour period. One small slice at a time. LOL

Gotta go, DH home

Thank you Phyllis for all the links, there were some great articles. I have been doing alot of that stuff already, like using olive oil, eating less processed foods and alot less sugar. Since my husband was diagnosed with the diabetes we have been trying to eat healthier. The drs sent us to classes on how to eat with diabetes and we learned a tremendous amount of stuff from that. Our biggest shock was a true portion size. They had plates of food all layed out with correct portion sizes on them and that was a real eye opener. The sizes we are accustomed to eating now as a society is way to big.

The inflamatory link to food is a very interesting one. After the holidays I may look into that some more. Also when I was researching for the Sjogren's Syndrome, I came across an article about eating to maintain an alkaline body, rather than an acidic one. The article was saying that cancer can not live in an alkaline enviroment. Interesting stuff. More to think about.

Yes the gerd does hurt really bad. It burns so bad that it has to heal when that happens and takes a day or two. Gaviscon or anything else for that matter will not help it once it has burned the back of my throat. It is a horrible feeling and leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Both of my parents died from cancer and esophageal cancer is scarey to me and a very likely candidate if I don't take the omeprazole.

I do not know if the fosamax is doing any good yet. I just had the bone density test this past summer and I think they want to retest in 2 years. So I will not know for a while now.

Thanks so much

Nellie, and Carol, any new messages from Starr? I do hope things improve so they can spend more time together for as long as possible.

Lisa,
Everyone is different. If I were you, and had the gerd that bad, I would likely be scared of not taking the omep as well. It is sometimes warranted. It sure can hurt bad YES?? right CA++, Mag Mal, and esp D3. Glad to hear it. Many people don't know the differences in supplements.

Wow Phyllis you were very busy last night!! Thank you so much. I take Caltrate 600+D3 2x a day. It has the calcium carbonate you talked about it. I also take Nature Mades Magnesium 400mg 1 x a day. It used to be in the Caltrate but they stopped putting it in there so I take it separate now.

I am very afraid to stop the omeprazole. I had terrible gerd all the way up to my throat so bad the burning was incredible. And I had an ex boyfriend die of esophageal cancer in 2007 from gerd. I get panicky if I even forget to take a pill. That is really not an option I am willing to try right now.

I actually had a bone density test last summer when I had my mamogram. Thats how they found the osteopenia. My mother had osteoporosis and I turned 50 this year so I thought it was time to check that. I want to go to the sites you gave me links for but today my husband and daughter are away for the day and I have alot I need to get done while they are gone. I will get back on the computer tonite and check out those sites.

Thank you so much.

Lisa, tired of me yet??
Here's another blurb, but I beg to differ, I take a combo CA++ Mag and D3 pill twice a day (when I remember) along with TwinLabs MultiVit , and TwinLabs Super B-Complex. TwinLab is really good, but a bit pricey. If I can afford it, I always buy TwinLabs. I have read that NOW brand is good as well as Nature Made, and I have recently bought both. But I stick with Twin Labs brand when I can, I can tell a difference with TLabs. I take every pill with food and break up total daily dose into twice a day. Only take meds without food that you are told to, like probably the Fosamax. I take pain pills on empty stomach or they take forever to work.

Crap, forgot the link, here it is www.livestrong.com/vitamins/ It's a good start for reading about anything vitamin or health related.

Medications taken on an empty stomach should not be taken with calcium supplements

Combination Products
Calcium supplements are available in a bewildering array of combinations with vitamins and other minerals. Calcium supplements often come in combination with vitamin D, which is necessary for the absorption of calcium. However, calcium and vitamin D do not need to be taken together and/or in the same preparation in order to be absorbed by the body. Minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus also are important but usually are obtained through food or multivitamins. Most experts recommend that nutrients come from a balanced diet, with multivitamins used to supplement dietary deficiencies.

Lisa, Calcium Carbonate is the one,
Here's exerpt from the website:
The better way to check for the amount of elemental calcium the supplement contains is by looking at the RDA. The RDA for most individuals is 1000 mg of calcium per day (this varies, by age, gender, and special situations including pregnancy). If the bottle states a tablet contains 40% of the RDA of calcium, then it contains 400 mg of elemental calcium.

Calcium carbonate contains the highest concentration of elemental calcium (about 40% by weight), followed by calcium citrate (about 20% by weight (I think Tums)).
HERE'S THE WEBSITE LINK THAT I LIKE TO GO TO FOR BONE HEALTH AND ALSO TELLS what types of cheaper calciums to not take and the why's and when to take or not take. :::

Lisa,
So happy to hear you didn't have the side effects of the prednisone. I didn't either the first couple times I took them. It was later times. UGH~

CAROL told me her DH Richard jack knifed his semi due to another truck passing him while on black ice, but R is okay and safe. Just out a lot of money now for damages. Terrible!!!

Hi Everyone, Still no word from Starr? Hope all is going ok for her and Alan. CAROL, thanks for asking, my lip is healing nicely. There is a little bump there right now driving me crazy, but it will just take some time to heal completely. I finished taking the Prenisone yesterday and my tongue still feels swollen. It also feels like I burnt it on hot soup or something. I don't know how long it will take if the prednisone will work or not. If not, I guess I will just have to wait it out till the phentermine completely clears from my body on its own.

PHYLLIS, thank you so much for looking all that stuff up for me. My tongue is not actually swollen, just feels like it is. So this wasn't an actual allergic reaction. I only took these stupid pills for 2 1/2 months! I did not think that would be long enough to do this much chaos.

No the osteopenia is a new development for me. I have to take the omeprazole for a hiatel hernia I have had for 14 years now. So I have been taking the omep for 14 years. The dr just added the fosamax 3 months ago. I take calcium 2x a day, but I also take the omeprazole 2x a day. Should they not be taken together??

I did not get the hungries on the prednisone! I was surprised! I was able to maintain my weight the 6 days I was on it. HOWEVER, DH took me to Durham today to spend the day with my son's girlfriend shopping for him for Christmas. She knows him better than me now as they live together. Well we all met with him for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory! Don't know what today will do to my weight. BUT I did walk over 13,000 steps today!!! Thats a personal best for me! I did get the jitters on it though. I was very shakey and a little clumbsy feeling. Glad I am done taking it.

Carol, I'm so glad it's not our team. I am here also for caring and being and getting support. Some people are just mean at heart and I don't know how, but they seem to feel happy over it. I used to speak up, but nowadays I just don't say anything. It's easier that way for ME and the mean people don't get any "ammunition" for fire back on the nice people. I just don't want no part of mean people. That's part of the reason why I've not tried to make friends here in AZ. It can take too long to find out what they are really like.

She's also on one with me and I haven't heard/seen anything there either.

Phyllis, the meankids post was on another area/group. Some people just like to attack, then justify themselves when they're called on it. I've had so many people bully and just plain be mean to me in the past when I was young and a "pushover". Now I fight back, whether it's me or someone else that's being attacked, and SP is absolutely NOT the place for those types. This is supposed to be a caring, supportive place. I can not stand people who like to jump in and be nasty, but can't take it when they are called on it. Funniest part was, I just asked that people not post if they couldn't say something nice or supportive. I didn't mention anyone in particular, and there were actually more than one. But one came back on the attack hard. So that told everyone she knew she was being nasty. If you don't think you're being nasty why would you have to jump in and "defend yourself"? LOL.
Making white choc. cranberry scones to give to a couple of neighbors tomorrow. Now to get back to work...

Nellie, Starr is having to go through so much tough stuff, it seems even more so during the holidays. DH always has a hard time emotionally at Christmas.

Lisa, Now to try to repost what I lost. I've looked on all the drug chat boards, nothing was said about the effects you had. All drugs of any kind say to report to MD swollen tongue, hard to breathe etc as those are indicators of allergy to the med.
People did say they went through withdrawals after taking them a long time, and had become addicted to the phentermine since it has amphetamine like effects. Usually when drugs have withdrawals they are drugs that do change the brain chemistry, and you are right, the side effects may take a longer time to go away. Many also complained about headaches. Starr has headaches often, she also said they gave her a headache.
I was wondering if your low bone mineral density/osteopenia was a problem before taking the omeprazole?? Or did the MD rx you the omeprazole and fosamax together as prevention. Acid blockers are known to cause bone density problems when taken long term. I used to take Prilosec, but changed my diet more to better portion control, and an alkaline forming foods (more veggies and fruits, less meat and dairy and fats) and had less reflux. If I do get it when I eat a known acid causing food (spaghetti and pizza are the worst for me)
I almost always end up taking baking soda for the acid reflux (salt not an issue here in Arizona)
How is it going with the steroid?? Did you get the horrible hungries? or the crazies?
So glad to hear your DH isn't having problems with the Crestor. My sister had problems with all the ones she tried. I can only wish I had of stopped taking those drugs way sooner than I did, but the MD kept saying take them, and I listened. .

I hope your DD is doing okay after having to put down her doggie Holly. Sad to have to do that. I know it's humane so they don't suffer, it's just still very sad when the time comes. Does she have other animals? I like what Nellie said a few days ago about having a lot of love to share.

Carol and Elaine,
I haven't seen any "mean kid's posts" here in the Chi group, was it on another team?? I'm sure sorry to hear that.

I've only found really nice people on spark except one lady a while back on another team, I felt bad for her, she was actually nice but her depression was so bad and the things she would say in her posts would upset people on the team, they reported her, for saying things that SP actually banned her for saying/venting. She lived too rural to go for psych or other therapy, so I guess SP was her only outlet. I wish I had started a private team like one I have already, but I didn't see it coming. I still wonder how she's doing, she was so lost at the time.

I continue to think of Starr and her DH Alan. This morning I said morning prayers. I don't do that often. Usually I say at night. I want to go check the other teams to see if she's posted any new info.

My lower back was in pretty bad pain during the night, I took some Aleve, and used heating pad. Maybe since I used the therapist's backswing and the exercises he showed me to do on mine at home, and did all the other exercise stuff too, All in all I was there about 2.5 hours, and I did do an awful lot of exercise yesterday, and then walked 5000 steps at Walmart while waiting for my Rx's. The therapist said some people don't like backswing and the feeling of hanging upside down. Anyhow, I'm thinking I should skip a day since I am just beginning again..... and sore today too.

Friday I got a big screen TV, and they call it a "Smart TV" and has WiFi, so it get's Netflix, Amazon movies, and also YouTube, so this morning I watched some exercise videos, I'm amazed how many there are on YouTube. I hadn't bought a new tv for years and technology has sure come a long way.

I didn't know but thanks for telling me. :) I LOVE a good battle. ;) It IS ridiculous isn't it. But they WANT to fight, and l LOVE giving them what they want. Don't worry kiddo, I'm a big girl, I can take it. LOL. No, they won't listen because they are people who need to tear others down to make themselves feel bigger/better. I used to slink away or try to defend. Now I just point out their deficiencies which really gets them. ;)

Good morning everyone. Hope you are having a good week. I've been thinking so much about Starr. Just can't get her off my mind. Many prayers go up for her. Hope the rest of you are fine. Lisa, how's your lip? Anything new, any meds or whatever?

Continuing as always to send up prayers for Starr and her family.

Elaine, how are you doing today? Did you notice the "attacker" gave herself away? I just laughed out loud. No names needed to be mentioned. LOL. So that tells you she KNEW what she was doing doesn't it? And then she, who was soooo full of "advice" didn't like her own medicine. emoticon I hope you ended up laughing as I did.

Brrrr..... it's COLD here. I've been freezing all afternoon. More snow too. Looks to be a WHITE Christmas here.

Carol and Lisa,
thank you so much for hunting down Starr's posts. I have been wondering what is going on. I have continued to pray for Alan and Starr, and family. Such a rough time for them all. Hopefully with the ICU and medications for the pneumonia, he'll improve. LTC is no picnic either. I feel sad all the way around for them all.

Nellie, so happy you got that doggie, actually you saved her from a horrible life. I wish all puppy mills were outlawed everywhere. I was only at one (went with a friend) once, and I was horrified. My friend said later that it was one of the better ones. Awful life. As long as the puppies are bought, they will continue. I refuse to buy from a mill. SPCA or rescues are my choice usually. Paco's mom was a rescue pregnant chihuahua, had 6 pups.

I went to Physical Therapy today and spent 2 hours there doing different things/exercises. I agreed to go twice a week, for now. One thing he did was a back muscle stimulator, he called it a TENS unit on steroids. Six round pads that were stuck up and down my back, that stimulated back muscles for 15 min. While I laid on a hot pack. He gave me a home workout plan, and he says to use my backswing 2 to 3 times a day as tolerated, he suggested traction but I disagreed as I already know backswing works way better. WOW, if I have gotten on it once a week lately I've called that lucky. I guess I'm going to have to step it up. I'll go back Friday. MOTIVATION or lack of is my real issue I guess.

Ah, I found this one which I think is the latest.

Danlin, when i got DH out of bed Friday morning he was breathing even more poorly thwn his usual. Within an hour of having up and in the process of giving him his morning pain killers and other medications, he was not even breathing good enough 2 take medicine. I called 911. The En put oxygen 4 quite awhile. After checking his blood gases several times, they found that he was nit getting enough oxygen and it was getting worse.. the doctor said tbat if i did not make a decision quickly on to or not put on a ventolator, there would soon b a poimt of no return. In his advanced directive he says that he does want his life 2 b saved in an emergency and 2 b given hydration and nutrition.. and since he has since he has given me the legal power to speak and take action on his behalf in the event that he cannot act/speak 4 himself.....i told him to put alan on a ventalator. Which is where hes been Friday afternoon.. im happy to say tgat his oxygen saturation, as of 5 this morning, has greatly improved since Friday, and the doctors are considering trying 2 start weining him off the ventalator today. Dr says that because of the muscle disease, this process will b slow going. But he is still fighting the pneumonia, so hes got 2 b in the hospital anyway.

Im exhausted. In the past 2 and 1/2 days ive had only 5 hours sleep. Sleeping in a hospital in a hard chair that does not recine at all id beyone impossible.!! Oldest DD did stay with alan the night b 4 last, but i had to get up the next day at 5 AM and did not get to sleep till after midnite e the nite b 4.

So, here i sit so sleepy and drained that i feel dizzy, have a headache and feeling just horrible.

Guys, this is what I found from Starr on the other team:

HELLO EVERYONE.

JUST WANTED TO GIVE U ALL AN UPDATE ON WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ME AND MY DH.

FRIDAY MORNING I CALLED 911 BCUZ HE WAS BREATHING WORSE THEN HIS USUAL. THEY TOOK HIM 2 THE ER. THEY IMMEDIAYELY PUT HIM ON A C PAP MACHINE 2 MAKE HIM BREATH CORRECTLY. HE WAS ON THIS MACHINE FROM 10 AM TILL 3 PM. AT WCH TIME THE ER DOC TOLD ME THAT HIS OXYGEN LEVELS WERE SO LOW THAT HE NEEDED TO GO A VENTALATOR OR HE WOULD PROBABLY DIE. DR. ASKED ME IF HE HAS AN ADVANCED DIRECTIVE. I SAID YES, AND THAT HIS WISHES R 2 B KEPT ALIVE AND GIVEN NEUTRITION. SO, IN HIS THROAT GOES LIFE SUPPORT. NOT LONG AFTER THAT HE IS TAKEN 2 ICU.

YESTERDAY HE REALLY DID NOT DO ANY BETTER. I ACTUALLY HAD A DOCTOR TELL ME THAT MY FAMILY NEEDS TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS 4 HIM 2 GO INTO A LONG TERM CARE FACILITY.

MERRY & BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

This was dated for yesterday. They obviously still need our prayers. This is a really rough time for Starr.

Oh, Starr, I didn't know until tonight. I for some reason haven't been getting any notifications on the postings here again. :( I came over to see if anything was here after seeing the posting by Danlin that you and DH needed prayers. I will be on my knees for you tonight.

Nellie, I'm so happy for you with your new doggie. Happy Birthday too, I must have missed it.

I was gone most of yesterday since I was getting a rescue Yorkie. She was rescued from being a puppy mill breeder. She is very sweet and seems a little scared, but we are taking things gently for her. She has now decided it is OK to eat and she is a little braver about going outside and even pottied once out there. Fortunately she seems to know to go on potty pads already!

STARR, I am praying for Alan and you, and for your whole family. The heart does beat faster when oxygen levels drop low. I wish I could be there for you to lean on during such a painful time for you all. My heart is now heavy with sadness when I read your post.

LISA, last night I wrote a lot to you re your meds. Unfortunately out of my mistake, I closed the window, and lost the email. I thought I was closing another window. Aaarrrrgh! Tonight after DH goes to bed, I will rewrite it.

Starr we are praying!! Hope all is alright!!

Phyllis, yes my husband is still taking cholesterol drugs but it's crestor now, not lipitor and he seems to be doing ok on that. He also has to take plavix because of the stents and his diabetes metformin. The dr said it could take months for the phentermine to fully leave my system. But we are hoping the steroids will give it a kick start.
