I remember having the "dump" cake at a work luncheon. Lots of people and everyone LOVED it. So good I'd be afraid I would eat the whole thing emoticon Yum Yum

I made that dump cake before. I liked it, so did everyone else.

Eileen & Carol emoticon BOTH for your great and very much appreciated ideas. I think that I am going to try Eileen's idea with the pasta, since I am going to a function, it will go further. Making it less expensive. I will let you both know how it "goes over" at the Ladies Day out.

Very true!! Fruit cocktail can be expensive. I buy the generic and look for sales and pasta surely beats the fruit cost!! With larger groups I just double the fruit which again is more costly.
Thank for a great note!!

Well, it would extend it for a large group thing and be less expensive for Starr, so thought she might like that. 1 can wouldn't go very far and the more you use the costlier. The pasta really doesn't change the flavor. I do like it with the pasta too. :)

Hi Carol,
I haven't used a recipe with the macaroni in. That would certainly give it a different texture and flavor. Sounds interesting but not sure I will try that. Thanks for sharing!! :):)

Eileen, I've made that same salad but the recipe also added some cooked macaroni shells. :)

Hi Starr.
I have a fast salad that when I take it somewhere, the bowl never comes home with anything left in it!!

Pudding salad

Take one box of vanilla instant pudding, emptying into a bowl. Add 1 can of fruit cocktail WITH the juice. Stir until thickened (about a minute). Add a container of whipped topping (like Cool Whip). Stir. Then enjoy!!!

I use sugar free instant pudding and other flavors can be used. (Never used chocolate tho')
The fruit cocktail is in natural juices & lite Cool whip. Calories and sugars very few.

OK, I can't find the recipe I was thinking of for you which used mac and cheese, a can of peas, tuna basically. You mixed it all up and (mac and cheese is cooked) and I think baked it for a short while, covered. I would add garlic, green peppers, pimento, and maybe celery. I'm a "well, what have I got I can throw in" kind of cook.

Here's one that I made so long ago I don't remember but I keep notes on recipes and it says "very good, easy, and different". Not sure how different as it doesn't look all that different. LOL. I was a "young thing" back then I guess. Hahaha!

Peppered Rice-a-Roni Hotdish

1 lb. pork sausage, browned and drained (you could use any ground meat)
1 green pepper, sliced
1 large onion, diced
1 can diced tomatoes
1 c. water
1 T. soy sauce
garlic and pepper to taste
1 box beef flavored rice-a-roni (you can find an off brand for less in this flavor)

Brown rice/vermicelli in 2 T. butter. Add 1 c. water, woy sauce, toms, peppers, onion, seasonings, and sausage. Bring to boil, lower heat, and cook until rice and peppers are cooked.

OK, here's an easy good, rich cake and a lemon dessert.

Dump Cake

1 yellow cake mix
1- 20oz can crushed pineapple, undrained
1- 21oz can cherry pie filling
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c, butter, cut into thin slices

Preheat oven to 350. Grease 9x13" pan. Dump undrained pineapple into pan, spread. Dump in pie filling, spread. Dump/spread dry cake mix over all evenly. Sprinkle walnuts over. Put butter over top. Bake 45-55 min. until done. Serve with Cool Whip if desired.

Lemon Chiffon Salad/Dessert

2 small pkg. lemon jello
1 can Wilderness lemon pie filling (I make my own, if you need a recipe for that, much cheaper)
1 large container Cool Whip

Dissolve jello in 2 c. boiling water. Add 1.5 c. cold water; refrigerate 2 hrs. Whip in pie filling and Cool Whip with mixer; refrigerate. Can also use orange or lime jello. You can serve in a pretty bowl or put into a graham cracker crust.

Tell us what you are looking for- a hot dish main course? A side dish (like baked beans?) A dessert? I have a couple of ideas and will type them out when I know what you want. :)
