I find this so interesting: Especially in regard to what the world is enduring with COVID-19.

Fasting has a number of benefits. This is exactly why the Ketogenic diet is so popular right now. It turns out, our body is meant to burn fat! If we are constantly eating, weíre constantly supplying our body with glycogen, this is the bodyís main fuel source for most people. When these reserves run out, the body begins to run off ketones, which has a number of health benefits, including destroying cancer. Many people with cancer today are having success with the ketogenic diet and fasting as a treatment for cancer. There is no shortage of studies of what fasting does to cancer cells combined with chemotherapy treatment, but itís quite odd how there have been no studies or clinical trials for fasting, without the chemotherapy treatmentÖ

Studies have also shown prolonged fasts have the ability to regenerate the entire immune system, repair damaged DNA, and more. It severely limits the process of age-related diseases and prolongs life in a variety of ways.

Hi JOMAMA,

I don't know anything about implant reconstruction surgery because I never had it. Sorry, I can't answer that question. But, If I were having that done I would be excited. How do you feel about it?

As far as losing weight, I have been losing by cutting out all sugar and eating more fats (fats keep me feeling full) and green veggies. In other words Keto and IF (Intermittent Fasting). I'm doing that for my health and that has brought my blood work back to normal levels. That all happen in one or two months. The weight is coming off much slower because of my age and slow metabolism.

When I say fats I'm talking about eggs, bacon, avocados, walnuts, real butter on veggies, cheese, and heavy cream. I don't eat fruit (with the exception of blueberries in small amounts) or anything with starch or flour in it. I do eat lots of green veggies that grow above ground and 3 to 6 ounces of protein. By doing that my Dr. sent me this message.

Hello Ms. Bobbie Walker,

I have published your lab results on your portal.

I wanted to congratulate you on the enormous success demonstrated by these labs. You are no longer showing any evidence of diabetes, elevated liver enzymes, or elevated triglycerides.

Your electrolytes, kidney function, and blood count also looked great. Your thyroid is in control.

Your cholesterol is still elevated however the majority of this is usually due to genetics. Please keep up your success and do not revert back to the diet that caused all the problems we identified earlier.

Please review the labs and let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Dr. Tarpley

As far as my weight is concerned I'm not worried about it because I will be eating like this for the rest of my life and the weight will come off when my body is ready to let it go.

Do you realize how liberating that is? I watch Dr. Eric Berg's and Dr. Eric Wisetman's Videos to learn what eating this way does for my body. I'm including a couple of links to their videos.

BACK2BASICS, thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delayed response. it's now 3/1/2020. I'm finished with chemo as of 1/13, and yes, I lost all my hair.every.last.one.everywhere.I just got a wig and I'm rockin' it. (o: Life goes on. I now have new growth starting, pure white and about an 1/8 inch long. Eyelashes are starting to come back too. Eyebrows are still MIA...

I am having the DIEP flap procedure done bilaterally. I can't see why radiation would be done again as the tissue transplanted is not breast tissue. But I'm not a doc.
I wish you well with your treatments. I continued to work throughout chemo. I only missed days of work on infusion days and a few days due to an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. Keeping with my regular schedule as much as possible I believe helped me get through it. I just want this all over and done with so I can get back to life. All these doc appointments are cutting into it! LOL.

Hi! When you talk about genetic testing, I assume you are talking about testing for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. It's an easy test. I think it's just saliva usually. There is other testing that can be done. I was tested for BRCA1 and 2 years ago, and the results were negative. However, recently my son was tested for a whole slew of different genes, and turned out to have a really, really nasty mutation in the TP53 gene. Which he had inherited from me, and I had inherited from my father.

I always feel like knowledge is power, and, knowing we have the gene means we can get screening tests done, and catch any cancer early. That's the big positive to testing.

I had the testing done. My mom had BC too. I didn't think it was a big deal and my ins. covered it. I didn't have the gene which was good.

Hi! Hope all are doing well. How are your treatments going? I am an 11-year survivor -DCIS Her2 positive. Because my uncle on my father's side also had bat cancer (with mastectomy), my oncologist wants me to have the genetic testing. Any ideas/preferences about that?

I have a very similar situation going on. DX with DCIS in 2011 and same side 2019 with more DCIS, until they did a mastectomy and a frozen slide and found a hot node. I will start chemo on Wednesday, 1/22/20. And although I had radiation last time too, the radiation oncologist is recommending I get it again since the tissue I now have in the breast was not radiated. (It was transplanted with a DIEPflap) There is an area of my lung which she knows was, but suspects its scar tissue now. I can go for more of a mantle and axillary radiation and not re-radiate the same area, but that decision will be made after chemo. I am fighting with my insurance company about the use of a Dignicap process which may be able to help me prevent some hair loss, but it's got some constraints regarding how many times you can wet/wash your hair a week and what shampoos, no blow dryers or flat irons, and very wide tooth combs, and I easily get cold and this literally chills your head. I think I am driving my doctors office crazy with all my questions regarding getting a predetermination of coverage.

I freaked out when I went from Lumpectomy on one side, very small area. To Mastectomy in 4 months. I decided that I didn't want to have to go through all of the side effects of the different treatments, to have a bi-lateral (double) mastectomy. That was June 6, 2019. So far, I have not regretted my decision.

I can't help you with the other treatments, since I didn't go through them. My cancer center helps ladies to know how to tie up a scarf in multiple styles. Maybe yours does also.

I had neoadjuvant chemotherapy - four cycles of Adriamycin and cyclophosphamide, four cycles of taxotere and Herceptin, and then continued with Herceptin for a total of a full year.

My oncologist now considers me cured. It has been eleven years since my last treatment.

I forgot to add that there are ways to lessen the side effects of chemo. My oncologist is really concerned about such things - she won't even start chemo until her patients have had a long appointment with the nurse, learning how to avoid side effects. For instance, if you take glutamine (powder is available in health food stores) dissolved in liquid every day, you don't get mouth ulcers. I never had a single mouth ulcer. If you keep your hands and feet very cold during chemo, you don't get neuropathy. I never got neuropathy. It's worth looking into these things. Good luck!!

I would think you could save your braid. When I knew I was going to lose my hair, I went to a hair salon whose owner shaves cancer patients' heads as a ministry. She put my hair into a pony tail and cut it off intact, so I could donate it. Seems to me that could be done just as easily, if not more easily, with a long braid.

Well ladies. Hereís a check-in, canít say itís daily, monthly or even yearly. I was diagnosed in 2010 with DCIS you ladies helped me through that. Fast forward to 2019 diagnosed same side invasive ductal carcinoma. Since Iíve already been radiated canít do that any more... only option is chemo then mastectomy. Any ideas to share regarding treatment how to make it better are appreciated. The hair loss thought is whatís freaking me out. Is there a way to save my braid to fasten into a cap or scarf? Silly I know. But thatís me. Silly emoticon

Crazy life - dealing much more with my son's cancer than with my own past cancer, though with Li Fraumeni syndrome, I may get many more. Can't worry about that too much, though, as it makes it hard to get anything done.

Hi, doing fine here!

If you want, since you are team leader, @PEACEFUL-SPIRIT , you can go up here I think to the side of the topic "Daily Chatter" (we can't see it, but I'm leader on other channels and so I've seen it elsewhere.), there should be a thing that says "Make This A Sticky Topic" and what it does is keeps it at the top. We can have up to three topics always stay at the top, even if someone starts a new topic as a way to discuss a specific tangent (not specifically daily chatter, necessarily, but maybe a question about a type of treatment etc.). Just a suggestion, and the sticky topics can be turned off and applied to a different topic.

Hope that helps!
