I'm sorry to hear about the LE. It's tough trying to get in shape while having to pamper an arm at the same time.

I had an ALND and rads on the armpit so I'm very high risk for LE. It's a balancing act when it comes to exercising with that arm. Lots of other things can cause LE too....insect bites, scratches, sleeping with a tight watch etc, so it's possible that it wasn't just the swimming that created your LE problem. I hope you are able to get the LE under control without complications and that you can get back to the pool. Swimming is such a wonderful way to work out.

Something that was red and warm and required antibiotics, was an infection.
You can have lymphedema without an infection. I frequently do, and I also had an infection recently.
I have a shirt that has cuffs, and the right one is too tight, though the other side is fine.
At times, my right arm is an inch and a half larger around than my left.

As soon as your infection is gone, you can get back to swimming. I love the pool!

I finished my last radiation treatment in Nov and once I recovered from that have been trying to rebuild my life. Apparently I pushed myself too much and now I have lymphedema. I was looking for it in my arm, they did warn me about that but the discoloration in my breast I just attributed to the radiation effects. Then it got really red and warm to the touch.

great

I'm on antibiotics now for it and I meet with a specialist next week but I'm kind of bummed. I joined the master's swim program at the Y and was really getting into swimming. Its a bit disheartening for them to tell me that the best way to keep the cancer from coming back is to get in shape but if I work out then I get lymphedema.

just feeling a bit frustrated right now
