I had a tram flap. Love it. LOOOOVE it!

I had very large breasts. When they removed my right, they removed more tissue up above the breast, in the area just a little below the collarbone. I was a huge triple-D on the left, and a concave depression on the right. The discrepancy was obvious even with a prosthesis, with almost every shirt that wasn't a turtleneck.

The tram flap included a reduction to the left, building up that concave area above my right breast, and removal of the "overlap" in my belly. (The insurance Company pays to have the reconstructed breast and the remaining breast "match")

It is/was major surgery, but I didn't have any more discomfort than I did with the mastectomy to begin with.

You can ask any questions you can think of - I'll try to answer them.

I also have not. I didn't have the option due to my abdominal surgeries.

I agree with Kay, BreastCancer.org is a great place to look.

I wish I could be of more help; I had a double mastectomy in 2003, but I opted not to have reconstruction surgery.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, I am now in hospice care for metastatic breast cancer, but I'm not letting cancer stop me from Sparking!

I have not. Have you checked out any threads over at breastcancer.org? They have all kinds of information there on various surgeries. I'm sure you can find many people there with experience with it that could offer some feedback on their experiences with it.

Has anyone ever had a tram flap? I may be considering but unsure...
