Temps here in AZ have been in the 80's and sunny with single digit humidity for the past month. This weekend Tempe hosted the 11th annual Dragon Boat Festival with teams from AZ, CA, OR, AK, Canada, MN, WA, and HA - six of them comprised solely of breast cancer survivors. We raced for two days competing in 250 m, 500 m and 1000 m races in 45 foot long, 1500 pound dragon boats with 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 1 steer in the stern. Our AZ team (Abreast in the West) hosted the Pink Phoenix BCS (breast cancer survivor) team from Portland, OR and we had an awesome weekend of friendly competition, fellowship, and celebrating life after diagnosis/treatment. A very moving ceremony with readings and pink carnations was held Saturday commemorating all our sisters who couldn't be here with us today. Our motto is: We paddle because we can. We paddle for all those who can't.

It is still winter here in Michigan.
I'm always happy when spring arrives, but I don't get outside a lot until the end of May or beginning of June, because of my allergies.

If it's low pollen day and the weather is nice, one of my favorite things to do is sitting out on my porch to read.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, I am now in hospice care for metastatic breast cancer, but I'm not letting cancer stop me from Sparking!

Spring comes early in Florida. Yesterday we planted our garden with tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, cantaloupe, raspberries, and blackberries. We'll plant corn later in the summer.

Hard to tell that spring has arrived given the temps are in the teens with wind chills near zero...and a possible blizzard Tuesday into Wednesday. :(

I look forward to the longer periods of daylight...and walking outdoors instead of finding ways to exercise indoors. Also, the Hope Bus will be on the road so I can get back to raising awareness, educating and bringing services into the community.

Are you happy Spring has finally arrived? How have the temps been in your area? What outdoor activities do you look forward to as the weather improves?
