I am also close to Lake Michigan on the dune side. I have not gotten there this summer although will be spending part of Labor Day weekend at my brother's Lake Michigan cottage. Many summers I have done picnics and beach outings with the kids. I love going late afternoon/early evening and watching the sun set over Lake Michigan.

Lake Michigan is close to me, I go to the beach and have been on a few boats.

I also have quite a few small lakes near my home, I like to hike around them.

Maple Lake is a nice one and the movie Lake House was filmed there,

Cross Lake is just on the west side of town. People get out in it all the time, but I wouldn't, considering the alligator issue we have in this part of the country. Other than that, we're about 6 hours from the gulf.

We live on the muddy Mississippi River. We live in the state of 10,000 lakes (there are more than that) so we also have smaller lakes around us too. We used to spend quite a bit of time on the river. Boating, swimming, skiing. We don't do that anymore, but we have canoed on our lake.

The largest water resource by me is the Atlantic Ocean, 5 blocks from my apartment. Though I don't participate in water sports, the beaches make the best place to walk...and meditate. Love the sound of the water as it hits the rocks and the beaches.

I am between 4-5 hours from the Gulf of Mexico. There are also several lakes and rivers within driving distance of my home here in Central Alabama.

After not being to the ocean for perhaps 20 years, we have been in the Gulf of Mexico four times this year. My son moved to Florida (16 hours away) and my daughter moved to Texas (12 hours away).

We brought all three of our grandkids to the ocean for the first time this year - 10-yr-old, 8 yr-old, and (then) six-week-old.

What fun!

That is awesome, CARPROTH, about participating in Abreast in the West. Very cool! That reminds me I need to check out what's available in terms of breast cancer support groups in my local area.

I actually live on a lake. We just moved here permanently 2 months ago, but I've been spending summers down here for the last seven years. We swim and kayak on it. One of my favorite things to do is go out in the early morning in the kayak when the water is glassy smooth. It's been very theraputic since I got diagnosed two weeks ago. (Seems more like two years ago.)

Although I'm in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, 5 good sized lakes (formed by damming the Salt and Verde Rivers) are within a hour drive of my house. I've been to all of them for camping, fishing, parasailing, sailing, and jet skiing. Another smaller lake (also once part of the Salt River) runs through the middle of Tempe (home of ASU) only 10 minutes away and has a fully equipped marina that caters to outriggers, rowing sculls and shells, kayaks, small sail boats, and dragon boats. I paddle on a dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors (Abreast in the West) that goes out once/week for a 90 min practice - great core and upper body workout! We participate in races/festivals throughout the year both here and other locales where dragon boating is catching on. Upcoming Rose Regatta in Las Vegas will benefit The St. Rose Dominican Hospital there serving women needing breast health services and treatment. We paddle because we can. We paddle for those who can't. We paddle to support each other in our journey to wellness.

What is the largest body of water near your home? Do you participate in any water sports/activities, swimming, boating, water skiing, jet ski/wave runner? How about kayaking or something else that involves water? Have you made it to the lake, ocean, etc. this year?
