I've never been a fan of shoes. I think I would go barefoot or wear flip flops all of the time if I could. I have mostly running and walking shoes and I wear my shoes until they're ready for the trash. I also don't wear heels. Not because they hurt my feet, but because I'm clumsy! If I put a pr of heels on, I guarantee DH or someone would have the camcorder going.

I volunteer one evening/week at a local shelter for victims of domestic violence - most are women with their children who left home and abusive males with literally only the clothes on their backs. Any donations of shoes and clothing in good shape is immediately distributed to residents. I'm sure Boulder has similar facilities and your lightly worn shoes would put a smile on someone's face. You might also consider halfway houses for girls coming out of drug/alcohol detox - lack of comfortable shoes for walking/exercise can be an excuse to stay indoors glued to a screen.

In our community we have Providence House, which provides lodging for families in crisis. Residents of the home work through a program that helps them to break the bonds of poverty and learn to be self-sufficient. Providence House accepts donations of clothing, toiletries, etc. You might want to check & see if your community has a program like that.

I have too many shoes - I do wear many of them, but I get new aerobic shoes about every six months and never wear the old ones. They aren't worn enough that they wouldn't be a great pair of shoes. I tried contacting Soles for Soles but they really want money donations and not shoes - that way, I guess, they can buy in bulk and take them. I checked the Nike link, but the closest is more than 20 miles from me in a direction I never go. Does anyone have other suggestions? I would rather donate them where they will be given to people needing shoes, instead of putting in a sales location.

I have foot issues since my chemo. I got nueropathy in my feet and it has never gone away. And then after gaining weight, it made it worse. So now that I've lost some weight and I've been seeing a podiatrist for the pain, they are finally getting better. So if I can find a pair of shoes that doesn't make my feet hurt, I'll buy 3 pairs, just to make sure I have something to wear.
I quit wearing heel's as soon as I could. Since I have no one in my life I have to look that good for, I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of heels! I only wear shoes that don't make my feet hurt, that's nice thing about getting older!

I forgot to say I donate any of our old shoes that still have life left in them... Wish I knew where to send the old sneakers that are shot, to be ground up for playgrounds. A group did that here a few years ago, and I can't even remember who it was.

For 18 years I worked as a secretary in an insurance office. We were
required to wear hosiery and heels 5 days a week. Then on Sundays
I wore them to work. After I retired, I only wore heels (not very high),
on Sundays. Now, I no longer wear them anywhere but I still own
several pair. I plan to donate them to Goodwill very soon.

I have about 40 pairs of shoes. I wear lots of athletics shoes, and
all the rest have arch supports and thick bottoms. I only buy good
quality shoes because the bottom of my feet are sore from arthritis.
I wear different shoes every day.

I love wearing good quality flip flops with arch support. I own lots of
those as well as lots of sandals for summer.

Like Fluffywonkenobe, I'm not a shoe freak. If I find a pair that is comfortable after wearing them for a month or so, I will seek out another pair to have on hand. I never wear heels and had several new pairs that I uncovered in my decluttering process so donated those. Actually, I can't remember the last time I wore anything with more than an 1" heel.

My favorites are my Birkenstock flip-flops (which they term "thongs"). I live in those as soon as the weather is warm enough until the first sn*w! Then I switch to a pair of black leather boots that have a 1" heel. I really need to find a new pair for next year since these have just about had it after everyday wearing.

I'd say I have about 15 pairs - 2 of my Birkie flip-flops, 4 Birkie sandals, 2 pairs of sn*w boots, 1 pair of black leather boots, 1 pair of black sneakers (which I had to buy for our Flames of Hope torch procession last October), 2 pairs of white sneakers, and then 3 pairs of dressy flats.

I have a pair of leather shoes, 2 pair of sneaker-1 for walking, 1 for painting and gardening, 1 pair of flip-flops, 1 pair of white sandals, 1 pair of brown sandals, and 2 pair of black dress shoes with about a 2 inch heel. I am really hard on shoes and it is hard to find comfortable ones. I am probably ready to get new sneakers and use my newer ones for painting. I usually donate shoes if they are still useable. I am all about comfort so I do not do big heels.

I think I have about 10 pairs of shoes. None of them are heels, since my knees and balance are so bad. Gave all those away about 2 years ago. Wear Nike airs most of the time, have one good pair of sandels, and one more inexpensive that I wear if I'm not doing a lot of walking. Then I have 4 pair of dressier shoes for when I need to dress professional. Also have 2 pair of Crocs, and going to buy another pair soon. Love them for around the house, gardening, at the beach, etc..... And one pair of hiking boots.....LOL

I'm not a big shoe freak, I find a few pair that are comfortable (that's a chore for me, I have very sensitive feet, toes that are bizarre shapes from being broken so much, and plus my feet aren't the same size!!)

I currently have a pair of dansko clogs I wear at work, they are pricy but I get about 2 years of wear out of one pair whereas when I was wearing athletic shoes I had to replace them every 6 months.

I have one pair of athletic shoes that I wear for working out.

I have a couple pair of sandals that I wear in the summer (have had them for years! But I dread the thought of trying to find a new pair that is comfortable!)

I have a couple pair of pumps, probably 3" heels - at 5'10" or so (probably closer to 5'11"), I don't need anything higher & wouldn't be comfortable in them anyway.

I also have a pair of hiking boots that I wear when riding my motorcycle.

When I find a pair of shoes that is comfortable, I wear them until they don't have any wear left in them! But I do give away or donate shoes that I buy & then discover they aren't comfortable after all.

I'm with Suzanne - guilty of having 50 pairs, but all get worn. I have lots of sandals (living in the desert, wear these most of the time) - dress, pool, hiking, and casual. Athletic shoes are a requirement for the gym, hiking boots for the mountain trails, closed-toe but comfortable for my work at Botanical Garden, and of course boots - riding and just pretty.

Since my two knee replacements, everything with a heel over 2" had to go (DGD had a field day going through my closet taking my heels and flops). What she didn't take got donated to my hospice resale store. Athletic shoes get worn until they're useless, then they get donated to a program that grinds them up and utilizes them as cushioning in playgrounds under swings, slides, and climbing toys.

I do so much walking at work that they allow me to wear athletic walking shoes to work every day. I usually have 8000 steps by the time I leave work. So, that's what I wear most of the time.

I have 3 or 4 pairs that I switch off every couple of days.

I donated most of my shoes with heels to the Goodwill or my church's ministry center. No more heels for me. Life is way to short to wear uncomfortable shoes.

Keep smiling!!

I hate to say it, but I probably have about 50 pair of shoes currently. I do have my favorites, the quality ones with arch support (even my flip flops have arch support, and since I live in Florida, we live in flip flops! Or sandals of one sort or another) I do not have really high heels, the tallest is probably about 4", but since I'm 5'8", that puts me at 6 foot tall anyway.

I honestly have worn about 90% of these shoes over the past year, if I don't, they go. And yes, I do donate the "gently used" ones to good causes, my daughter's volleyball team sends boxes of shoes to third world countries and my other daughter's band donates new and like new shoes to underprivileged kids in our own area.

I have cleaned out my shoes repeatedly. But most of mine were far too worn to give to anyone.

When I was teaching, I wore dress shoes - but never high heels. I spent too much time on my feet.

I would rather have one or two pair of good leather shoes than a dozen cheap copies without arch support.

How many pairs of shoes would you say you have? How high is your highest heels? What pair are your favorites? Have you ever donated old shoes of yours, or your family to organizations that send old shoes to underdeveloped countries? If you have alot of excess, think about donating old shoes, look for a drop-off in your area, they can provide a lifesaving gift to needy people. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
