So far, so good, with mom. She is using her head about driving, staying home if it's snowing or if she thinks the roads are icy. Just hope there are no more falls in her future!!!

I may have gained two pounds during Christmas. However, it may be water.
I haven't taken a diuretic for over a month. I used to take them every day.

Joy, before Mom fell in her apartment and went into the nursing home, she
fell in her apartment and broke her arm in the same place that your Mom
did. She had to come and stay with me for a few weeks. I can't tell you
how many falls she continued to have after that. Mom suffered from
mini strokes which made her really dizzy.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth."

I agree. My mom fell the end of September, and broke her arm right at the shoulder, so I had to go every day and help her shower, get dressed, do her shopping, etc, as well as Dr. appts and pt 3 times a week. And it might only be 2 or 3 hours of the day, but it still cuts into your own doings. I'm lucky that she was able to be at home, and not in a nursing home. She complained all the time about not being able to do things, so I finally told her, at least you are at home. If you had broken your hip, you would be in a nursing home.... so make up your mind you are lucky. She's now been discharged from the dr, and no more pt, so she's pretty independent again. She's allowed to drive if the roads are bare, but only withing a 3 mile radius. That gets her to the local Dr, the grocery store, etc. She's 86, and you never know, as Becky said, how long they are going to be here....

I did gain over the holidays, but have since taken it off and then some. Maintaining is hard cuz you don't want to gain and you're still stuck in losing weight.

BRAVEONE-Your mom is very lucky to have you. My brother was in the hospital for a week
and because of the weather, I had to drive my mom around to different places. She can drive and take care of herself, but the roads were slick and I didn't want her driving on them. Plus she is so used to having someone around all of the time, that I think she really needed me. It does take up your time, but you never know how long they're going to be here.

I was so worried that I would gain over the holidays, I managed to actually lose instead of maintain. I don't know how because I definitely ate some things I shouldn't have eaten. But now, with a New Year, it's time for a new start for us all.

I have maintained the weight I lost a little over a year ago. My goal is to
not gain any weight or to lose a few.

I am going through a very difficult time currently. I placed my Mom in a
nursing home last August. Since I am her only caretaker, it has almost
taken over my life. She is 93 and cannot stand nor walk, from a fall she
had @ her apartment. Her mind is still very good. The things that need
to be done are endless. I try to make the best of it. I have cut down time
on SP and time spent with my DH. Some days he hardly sees me. But
as hard as it is, I wouldn't want it any other way.

You are right Joy; tt is easier when you have someone to encourage you.

The last 10 months of exercise is the longest period of time I have stuck with a plan (with a few slips along the way.) When I first got out of the hospital, I walked out of determination to regain my strength and independence, But that got boring in a hurry.

I walk four miles now on Saturday with two Spark friends and I would have never kept up with it without them to keep me accountable. And water aerobics twice a week adds variety. Evidently I need the extra support of someone to whom I have made a commitment. And adding a fitbit made it more interesting. It is like a game to see how many steps I can do.per day.

I found my exercise buddies by posting a message on Spark looking for someone with the same goals.

I'd like to get myself back on track. Fell off quite a while ago, and it'll be like starting over. Want to be more efficient around the house, as well as get some exercise every day, not just once in a while. Just wish I could find an exercise I don't mind doing, and someone to do it with me. Keep me accountable, ya know?? If I end 2013 healthier than I am right now, I'll be happy.

I met my goal weight and now I'm focusing on accomplishing a few things. I want to run a 10k and a HM plus I want to get into doing some serious biking. I'm also hoping for a healthy year. No surprise surgeries if possible.

I am ending the year with less weight than I started which was my goal. I am exercising more and more. I started Spark in February with a goal of 30 min. for five days a week and now I am up to an hour or 10,000 measured with a fitbit. I can walk four miles and hope to improve my speed during this next year. I want to focus on eating healthier and sticking to my diet plan better.

I lost 37 pounds in 2012 - need to lose about 30 more. I walked a lot last year, but have not been walking much lately - need to get on that.

I spent lots of time with my grandkids and husband and daughter. Now that my son is no longer stationed in Alaska, I hope to spend more time with him n his wife. But he is still 4-5 states away from us.

I sewed some, quilted some, knit some, tatted some, cross stitched some, plan to do more of all 5.

Most of all, I plan to continue leaving worry and guilt behind, living in the moment, and laughing,

hugs to you all,
Caro

Time to reflect and look at how you did for 2012, give yourself a personal assessment of where you made progress and the areas where improvement is needed. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job emoticon Now is the time to set new goals for 2013, what do you hope for in the new year?
