Hi Maureen,

I am hoping you don't have a long wait for your surgery, whatever type you choose. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on Halloween and had a bilateral mastectomy on 11/13/12. It was fast, but I was grateful not to have to live too long knowing there was cancer growing inside my body.

Today is 11 days post surgery and I took a 20 minute walk. I'm hoping for 30 minutes tomorrow and then 30 minutes x 3 in the week ahead. It will surely take me awhile to get back to the fitness routine I had pre-diagnosis, but my resolve to loose weight is higher now than it has ever been.

Wishing you well in the days ahead. There is much support for you on this site and others. Don't be afraid to ask.

emoticon emoticon Hi Maureen, I am sending you lots of positive energy and enveloping you in peace to help you on this journey. We are all here for you. I had breast cancer at 41... I turned 50 this year!

My advice? Find someone who will be your support person who can come along to your appointments - I can guarantee you won't remember most of what is said to you, so it is awesome to have someone who can make notes for you, give you hugs when you need it and just remind you that you are loved and cared for every step of the way.

In Australia we have a wonderful organisation called "Bosom Buddies", who are experienced and trained counsellors and who are there in person or on the phone any time you need them. Val was my angel, and she became my best friend. I hope you have a similar support network where you are.

Please talk to us at "BC Survivors and Those Who Care" - whenever you need us, for whatever you need. We have endless love and care and positive energy to share with you!

Love and hugs to you!

Maureen, I am so sorry that you have breast cancer, but glad that it was
found early. The same happened to me. I did great and now I am a 2yr.

Another suggestion for every visit is a small tape recorder so you can listen again and see what exactly was said.

As someone else said, the ladies on this team have been thru it all. Some have had easy cases, others, very hard. Some have had reconstruction, others haven't needed or wanted it. If you have ANY questions, don't be afraid to ask. Someone else has probably "been there, done that".

I am a survivor since 2003. I keep telling my grandkids I'm going to live to be 100, and spend part of every year with each one of them...LOL

Post often, let us know how you are doing, and let us get to know you, and you, us.

Maureen-Sometimes health issues are what we need to realize that we need to take care of ourselves. I had another health issue that got me on the right track. Then when I thought things were looking up, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. No one expected that diagnosis. Not even my surgeon. Mine was also caught at a very early stage. I hope you take someone with you to your visit. There is alot of info that will be given to you. It's nice to have that extra set of ears. Otherwise take notes. You'll get thru this. Please keep us informed how everything goes. Good Luck!

Becky

Maureen, I am sorry about your diagnosis. Good luck at the surgeon's. Glad to hear it is an early diagnosis.

I cannot even begin to tell you how sorry I am about your diagnosis. We can praise the Lord that it was caught early, though. I will be praying for you.

The ladies on this team are wonderful. You certainly have our support.

Keep smiling!!

I just woke up and can't get back to sleep. I found out a couple weeks ago that I have breast cancer. I have my first appointment with the surgeon at 8am. I am so grateful to find this link.

My diagnosis has made me aware that I need to be more committed to exercise and healthy eating. I've procrastinated. This is a wake up call. I am scared but grateful for your being here. Grateful for an early diagnosis. Grateful for being knocked out of denial.. May we all have a peace filled day.
