One of the best core/upper body workouts that I've found is paddling with my dragon boat team (made up of bc survivors). It's not rowing or canoing - more like outrigger paddeling that utilizes the core, llaterals, chest/shoulders and abs. In addition to a great workout, we provide support, encouragement, and a real sense of group accomplishment. It's gaining popularity nationwide - check it out online to see if there's a group in your town.

Usually get in one day a week of strength training and ab workouts, but really need to strive for two a week. Would much rather take the dog for a hike, go for a run or do cycling class.

I just started kickboxing, or should I say, kicks my butt, but once I'm done I feel energized. I'm not up to the spead of the instructor, but that's okay, as long as I'm doing something. And I walk with my dog. Anything is better than nothing and I wish I did it more often.

Have a great day everybody! It's an overcase, chilly day in Delaware

I went through a radical hysterectomy in 1985. So, when I had BC and
mastectomies I didn't gain, but lost weight. I would like to get my tummy
down some, but it isn't too bad. I need to do some serious strength
training for my back and right hip, I have chronic pain. and spine fusion.
Earlier this year, I did go to OMT for a few months. It helped lots. They
worked on many different parts of my body.

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth."

I didn't know that about the treadmill. Or the dreadmill, as I call it. I'll have to slow it way down if I'm not holding on...Interesting.

Right now I'm just doing cardio, but I read one of the worst things you can do while on a machine (treadmill, elliptical, stair stepper) is hold onto the handrails. I tried doing it without hanging on, and I noticed an immediate difference in my balance and had to back down a few levels. Now I'm back up to where I was before, and I know this helps strengthen my core.

One stumble does not a failure make.

Everything in moderation.

Can't do core exercises due to the number of adhesions I have. No straining at all. Did once, ended up in the hosp. for 9 days with major surgery, so I guess I have to walk off what I can, and learn to live with the rest of it...

I like Pilates for my core. I'm also aware of my posture when doing anything else and when biking I concentrate on holding my belly in instead of swaying my back. It helps to some degree. Still need to do more. I think I will get some help at my OT appts. too.

What exercises do you do for your core? Do you use equipment? have you tried any of the SP exercises and watched the videos? Please read the daily Spark today to get more ideas for core exercises. I think many of us bc survivors can gain in the middle/abs, especially due to many of us being put into a med. Menopause. How is your core, how many inches have you lost, or plan on losing? maybe a size goal?
