When I was on chemo they had to prescribe a medication to greatly reduce the production of stomach acid. I took it for the duration of all 6 chemo sessions and it worked wonders.

Have you tried a small glass of milk?

Okay, maybe I am expecting too much but I took the RX for heartburn (Prilosec, 40 mg) at about 2:00 and it is now nearly 6:00 and no relief? :-(

I also took Immodium AD for the diarrhea. That seems to be working.

I managed to eat something but it worsened the heartburn. I managed to get about 24 ounces of water in so far but that is not nearly enough. When I drink water - it makes the heartburn worse.

Its been difficult for me to focus on much else because I am so uncomfortable. bleah!!!!!!

Okay - thats my vent for the day (Or maybe for the hour! LOL)

Twighlightnan ~ When I get my chemo they have zantac in it for the heartburn. I tried prilosec complete and it did nothing at all. Hopefully the RX will help (quickly!). As for drinking more water -- water actually makes it worse. :(

I'll fill yas in later on how this goes! :)

Thanks again for being here for me!
Hugs to all,
Dee

Thanks all for your support!!

Inga - thank you for the sparkgoodie!! :)
I am taking Taxotere and Cytoxan and I didn't have heartburn the first go-around and only a little the second go-around. This time, though, it has not subsided. Hoping the RX will work quickly.

I am also experiencing eye twitching which is just annoying and the nurse said there wasn't much they could do for that! :/

Good luck with the heartburn, hope the RX works. I did have a little heartburn but never thought it was from the chemo, I figured it was the cranberry juice I drink.
When I finished 4 rounds of the A/C and went on to Taxol, one of the IV drugs was Pepsid!

Perhaps if you drink lots of water it will lessen the symptoms.

What chemo drugs are you taking? I did not experience heartburn, but there are so many differences for each individual. for me neuropathy was one of the worst and I still have it 15 months after. I hope this passes soon. Much love.xoxo emoticon

Prilosec is great for heartburn. I tend to have ulcers and since my gastric bypass I take two of them a day. Hope it works for you too. Wish I had more suggestions, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Since my chemo on Friday --- the heartburn has been unbelievable!! I've tried, tums, rolaids, zantac - none of it touches this heartburn.

No matter what I eat (even blan bananas) I wind up with even worse heartburn! And drinking water -- oh no! Makes it 10x worse! So -- not wanting to eat or drink anything (which I know is bad - especially since I've had bad diarrhea for the past 3 days).

My oncologist has just called in a RX for Prilosec 40mg per day and told me to buy Immodium AD and - of course - suggested a bland "BRAT" diet. Glad I am a dietitian - I've tried following the diet but even bananas don't work! Though, rice seems to be okay. I'm going to try apple sauce.

Heading to the drug store now for the RX and Immodium. OH, and PowerAde Electrolyte solution since I am surely dehydrated at this point.

So - any suggestions from my wise friends here? How have you handled this "lovely" heartburn?

Thanks,
Dee
