When I was training for a marathon a few years ago they always stressed eating a protein with a carb after a run so that we would resist the urge to go back to sleep after our long runs on Saturdays. The trainers would bring us bagels and cream cheese :)

I'm starting to think this wasn't the best way to go but they were delicious after 18 miles emoticon

Thanks for you replies Ladies!!!

I think I need to switch things around a little bit...I think I am eating backward...getting my protein before I workout and my carbs after wards!!!

Bloo...eating clean is not a difficult or limiting as many people think it is!!! I basically read labels, avoid processed foods and don't anything with hydrogenated anything or HFCS!!! Eating 5-6 times a day is a breeze once you get in the habit of it!!! Although when I first started Eating Clean, I was shocked at how many "healthy" foods had HFCS and hidden "bad" fats!!! The real key and challenge is matching your carbs with a protein at every meal!!! Other than that, it's a piece of emoticon since I don't eat emoticon !!! LOL!!!

Hey Jackie!!
Ok, I am not on the Eating Clean Plan but I only eat whole grain breads etc. I like either a Luna bar or some peanuts to get me through my run. I usually eat it about an hour and 1/2 before my run.

Oh, and way to go on eating so healthy! I know that the Eating Clean program is tough. Good for you!

I'm still figuring out the most efficient way to eat clean. I've pretty much maintained my weight since last fall, which is what I want to do (though, I would like to lose a couple pounds-oh, we're never happy! emoticon ). Anyway, I have a complex carb (whole grain bread or cereal) before my run and a protein smoothie for my recovery meal after.
And, yes, Anne, clean eaters DO eat bread, but it should be only whole grain. I absolutely love the Ezekiel products--all good stuff and pretty darn tasty, too!

Hi Jackie!

You are probably building muscle mass, you little powerhouse!!! So, I am glad you are not worried about it. I usually have an apple about 2 hours before a run, and about 2 cups water gradually starting from 2 hours before a run.

I have heard a little protein/carb-combo is good a little before, like peanut butter on a bit of bread, or something similar. (Do those snobs on the Eating Clean team let you have bread?--hahah just kidding)

Water and carbs are VERY necessary, of course, to maximize muscle efficiency and provide the energy to get the job done.

Good luck! Peace--Anne

Good Afternoon Ladies!!!

I am posting this question on two team that I am on….Runner’s Café and Eating Clean because I want get opinions from both points of view!!!

I have recently started running and noticed my weight has been fluctuating a little…nothing I am too worried about but I am wondering if I am eating the right things at the right times to maximize my workouts and increase my training outcome!!!

I basically eat 6 times a day but am only really concerned with the first 4 that surround my workout…

Breakfast #1 7:30–Smoothie with Whey protein, almond milk with fruit on gym day (running and ST) and no fruit on non gym day (stationary bike or yoga)

Breakfast #2-10:00 ½ Whole wheat pita with 2-3 oz turkey or eggs with low fat cheese OR ½ cup cottage cheese with mixed fruit and high fiber cereal

Lunch- 1:00 5-6 oz Lean protein and lots of mixed veggies

Mid-afternoon snack 3:30- whichever snack I didn’t have earlier

What do you eat before and after you run/workout??? Does it matter or would it make a difference which snack I eat when…I guess I’m wondering if my carb distribution is beneficial to my workouts???

Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated!!!
