I'm beginning to panic--I'm signed up for my longest race ever of my short running career. It's a 1/4 marathon (6.55 miles) on 4/5, which is only--aaaaaahhhhh!!--just over 2 weeks away. Can anyone recommend the best training program/website that I can follow to feel more prepared for this race???!!I guess this race is pretty much the same as a 10K.
I have cross-posted on other teams, so sorry to those who have to read this more than once!

Newbie to this team...
I am signed up for the Indy Mini Marathon May 3rd.
Congrats to everyone who has signed up for a race. Sometimes it's one of the best ways to help me to stick to my workouts, I am too afraid not to do them. I don't need an ambulance to haul me accross the finish:)

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!

I just joined the team yesterday and am still trying to get acquainted with the threads but wanted to post here first!!!

I am registered for my first 5K on April 13th (6 weeks from last Sunday)!!! I am excited and nervous because I am so new to running I may be overzealous about my ability at this point!!!

I have set two goals for myself for this run...First and foremost, I want to finish which shouldn't be a problem. The second goal is to RUN the entire 5K!!! This is the one that concerns me!!! LOL!!!

I have only run over 3 miles once on the treadmill and am still making the transition to running outside so attaining my 2nd goal might be a little more difficult!!! I did run 2.25 miles at the track on Saturday which felt phenomenal!!!

I am glad to be on this team and I look forward to getting to know you and progressing with you as time goes on!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Jackie!!! emoticon

In my area we have 2 major races and a few minors. I am signing up for the Ogden 5K Race; the Debbie Green Memorial 5K and a 5K sponsored by the Gabriel Project of West Virginia. My friend wants me to do the Ogden Walk - but I am not sure of the distance.

My friend and I registered for the Nike Women's Marathon but we won't know until April 1 whether we get in. They are doing a random drawing for 20,000 entries.

Hey there Navy! My dad was in the Navy during WWII!

Okay I am psyched!!!! I have registered for my second EVER 5K race!!!!!!! This is on Saturday May 3, 2008 (May 1 is my 15th wedding anniversary), called the 6th annual "Walk & Rock." It will start at the Cleveland Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to support the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio--serving education. Last year's walk had 4000 people & raised $200,000.

My team is registered through my work; The Cleveland Institute of Art, so I don't have to pay a fee!
Team fee was paid for by a donation from our President of $1000!!!
He says he has baseball caps for everyone & all runners get a free T-Shirt!

Now I have a definite goal for my C25K program!!!

I will do a blog too!

Peace--Anne emoticon emoticon

Logdiva you are correct... it is a military school. I have been in the Navy 12 years and I am a Career Counselor AKA Recruiter. I will be attending a Recruiting Leadership Academy for 5 weeks. This is definately not one of my first times at these schools and when I was younger (before kids) running wasn't a major issue. However, the last time I was there, I really struggled. THIS WILL NOT be the case this time. Any suggestions on what type of program to do after completing the C25K??

Welcome JosieP...don't be nervous, enjoy the 4 miler!
AJA, what school are you attending that requires you to run three days a week? Sounds suspiciously like my military schools....I sure hated being one of the bodies that the whole formation had to circle around to pick up. No more! There's some definite incentive for keeping up on your running AND for racing! Keep you motivated...

I'm not registered for a race, but I would like to run one this summer. My goal is to be prepared when I get to school in July. I am going to a 5 week school that will require running 3 days a week. I don't want to be the last one across the finish line or people circling back for me.

Hello all. I'm new to this and to running. I've been training for the past month and half. I am registered to run a 4 mile run in Central Park, NYC next week. I'm so nervous and excited. BUT I'm looking forward to more races in the near future.

Racing? Yep, I'm signed up for one so far this upcoming year. It's the Portland Sea Dog Mother's Day 5K-May 11...I ran it last year as my 'get back into racing' race. It's a big race, lotsa people, pretty flat course, starts outside Hadlock Field where the Sea Dogs play, and finishes with a run around the perimeter of the ball field. Not a place to set a PR, by any means, at least as far as I'm concerned cause there's so many people and people of many different skill levels. Two or three of the gals on the Maine Connections Sparkpeople team are going to run with me so it should be a fun day.
Will register for more soon. I've done some research of races and ruled out those I can't run due to other commitments so I've gotta sort through what's left and decide which ones to race and which to pass up. Looking for 5 and 10Ks....halfs too, but only half-heartedly as I don't think I'll be ready to race one til NEXT summer. Too much going on this year.
The Blue Bell race sounds delicious!
Races keep me motivated...

funny you should ask. I was looking up 5K's yesterday since I'm doing the C25K. I found one in april about an hour and a half away from here in Brenham, TX and is sponsered by Blue Bell Ice Cream (the best ice cream ever!). In fact when you finish the race they give you ice cream! emoticon I'm thinking about signing up. I only hope I can finish the program by then! emoticon

I'm not registered yet. I am kicking around doing a 5K on April 26th (At the end of HHST for me) to get first-time jitters out of the way and to set a baseline from which I can measure the impact of formal "5k training" (including speedwork).

Thoughts?
