Spicy food
fried food
ice cream
cream cheese
raisins/grapes
oranges are ok, but no fruit juices
Splenda pre-flavored drinks...this is a weird one, because I can add it to cofee/tea, but if I get a water that fruit flavored sweetened with Splenda-it makes me very sick.

The only one that consistently will give me issues is popcorn. Other than that, it really just depends on the state of my gut.

It's actually kind of frustrating, because I can eat something one week and not feel great and eat the same thing a week later and it doesn't bother me. Some spicy things bother me and others don't. I've had some issues with Indian food but I can eat Mexican food with no problem *knock on wood*.

The thing I have noticed more than anything else is overeating. If I overeat (especially with greasy foods or meat) I will have some bathroom issues. So, I do try to focus on not overeating (which helps with the whole weight loss bit as well).

These are all really great suggestions, but and add on might be how do you know these items don't work for you? I have been on prednisone for so many years I can pretty much eat anything except go figure healthy stuff, even big macs are ok when on pred, but I don't know what symptoms to look for to tell a food is a NO-NO, suggestions would be great!

I was just released from a 4 day stay in the hospital from a partial obstruction. It was awful. I was so backed up they had to put in a n NG tube to pump my stomach. Before this happened I tried to avoid raw vegtables, and nuts. And No citrus. But Im not sure what I aeat this time . So Im kindof at a loss. My Dr. is stating I may need to have surgery to remove the restricted area. Any one have this done?

I recently had a resection and am in that "honeymoon" phase where I actually feel like I don't have the disease, so I've been eating anything and everything!

But, when I was much sicker, I couldn't eat...
Salad or raw veggies
Carbonated beverages
Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
Fried foods
Tomato sauce (raw tomatoes were ok)

Cucumber doesn't bother me, which is good cause I love it. But I only eat a small amount when I do eat it. But high fiber breads hurt me too. I avoid most bread now, even white.

Decided to eat more apples, oranges, and fiber breads for weight loss and now am having a flare-up. What was I thinking. After 16 years with Crohns, no-nos are:

fresh fruits, vegetables (especially cucumber)
lettuce
tomato sauce
popcorn, corn, corn on the cob
nuts
high fiber breads
no beans of any kind, especially baked and lentils emoticon

No No foods for me.....

Red meat of any kind
Ice cream
popcorn
Peanut Butter
Lettuce
Carbonated drinks

I don't do much meat of any kind, dairy, eggs. Not because I am a vegeterian, I just don't want them. My cholesterol is so low my doctor asks if I eat any meat, cheese, eggs, milk etc. I find myself eating, pasta, rice, potatoes, jello, apple sauce. I do best with carbs. Hard to cut out the carbs when they are the foods that do best with your belly.

I can't eat the following:

Any raw fruit or veggies (I had 3 apples one week and ended up in the hospital for 3 days!)

Popcorn (another ER visit a few months ago)

Any nuts including peanut butter

Spicy food, interestingly enough, doesn't bother me at all. The hotter, the better!

I was dx'd in 1998, so you think I would've learned my lesson long before these last episodes. I swear I have this time, though!

I like lima beans, just don't eat them. I am not sure what they would do to me.

I discovered this past week, I can have green tea either. I LOVE the Diet Green Tea with Citrus. And since I am trying to stay away from pop, all I drink now is water. Boring.
I made a really good chicken soup last week, and it didn't hurt me. Just 2 chicken breasts, lots of egg noodles, chicken broth, and a few carrots. It was low calorie and pretty good. I am gonna buy the low sodium chicken broth next time.
I can eat onions, but if there is a bunch of them in a dish, it gives me problems.

Haha! well, here's an idea then! What foods do you love that are GOOD for you when you're toughing things out?

Here are mine (and of course "safe" foods are different for everyone!):

-home made chicken soup
-yogurt (mmm..lemon and the only form of coconut I can eat!)
-Carnation Instant breakfast (in chocolate!Great nutrition!)
- cooked carrots with butter and salt... mmm
- all the meat and eggs and seafood I could want. Peameal back bacon aka canadian bacon is a great lower fat option if you have trouble with fats!
- bananas
- sushi!
- applesauce with cinnamon
- cucumber with dip

Anyways I just wanted to illustrated that while our diets can suck and be limited, you can be a total gourmet with what you CAN eat - so you can play to your dietary strengths! :) I love food and cooking, so it's been a blow to me to limit my diet so much but.. EH. I'm working around it. Some things I just don't miss!

P.s. I guess it would make sense with why the leafy greens would give me trouble - while the nutritional lables would say there's not much fibre, it would have to be very effective fibre in order to keep all the water in the vegetable! So I guess that means it would be harder to digest, even if theres not much! Well... that is my theory anyways. lol!

And Oh boy I forgot to mention how bad beans and peas are for me! Which is a shame, because I think I'm the only person on the planet who enjoys lima beans! lol

When I was first diagnosed anything lactose was terrible. Now as long as I stick to low-fat varieties, dairy is no problem.

Baked beans and chili are my guaranteed problems. Can eat Stagg Turkey chili though, go figure.

And like most of you have said, nuts and seeds are more often than not going to cause a problem.

Other than those, it changes from time to time. I find myself sitting in my favorite little private room wondering 'now what the heck caused it this time?'

pasta was one of the foods I never had trouble with. The doctor told me to "live on Pasta', thing is, that's one of the few foods that I do NOT like! Green leafy foods are full of fiber, that's why they bother you!
Our diets sound so pitiful!

My foods are:
-Fibre in any form (metamucil killed me when I took it for a medical test! This really limits what fruits and veggies I can eat.)
-Caffeine (even green tea!)
-rhubarb (there's just something especially evil about it!)
-pasta (and probably all wheat! I'm in the process of "proving" this one)
- probably nuts and seeds, but I only eat them occasionally
- possibly leafy greens. I seem to have trouble digesting them, even if they aren't causing much trouble!

nuts and seeds belong on my list, too.

I can eat Papa John's veggie pizza; all others are too fat and greasy and make me sick!

It could be. It's weird how Pizza Hut and Snappy pizza don't bother me, but the new Domino's does. And I know I shouldn't be eating those anyway. But my bf loves it, and we can eat for two days on a pizza. But anymore I order a sandwich and leave the pizza for him.

flubbers, think it might be oregano? That doesn't agree with me, either and I had a hard time deciding if it was oregano or basil, but oregano is the culprit..

Ok, let's all post our No-No foods here. I know we are all gonna have different ones, but I am sure we will all share some of the same ones.
I'll start!

Flubbers' No-No Foods-
Powerade or any sports drinks
Ensure
Slim fast
Cream based soups
Raw veggies- I can have them, only on really good days, and only in small amounts.
Iceberg lettuce-it's mostly water, but it kills me
Fruity drinks- I don't get it either
Apples
Whole Wheat anything- If I don't have a full flare after eating them, I will still hurt and feel sore for days
Tortilla chips-this is pretty new, cause I have ate them for years and no problems. They are my fav
Certain spices, chili spice is ok, but the Chili-O spice packets are a no-no. There is also a spice found in some pizza and meatloaf that is a big NO, but I can't figure out which it is.
Popcorn- anymore than a handful is too much.
Fried foods

When I look at a food, sometimes I just know it will hurt. And sometimes, I can tell as soon as the food hits my stomach. But they maybe me just being weird lol.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I know there is more, but I have tried to train myself to not even think of those foods anymore lol.
