I know I haven't been on here for forever, but I still carry my dear friends here in my heart. Just stopping by to say that my father passed away on October 25. It has been a long hard journey for him, bedfast the past 9 months. And I'm not sure I can even imagine what my life will look like now that he is gone.

Hugs to everyone here.

That would be so cool for all us older people. Underwater treadmill. Wouldn't have to take up much space either. Not like maintaining a huge swimming pool.

Actually one of my incisions is taking it's time healing. When I went back to the doctor last week he had to remove some internal stitches that were not absorbed into my body like they were suppose to so I have to keep that dry until it is healed.

I once did Aqua therapy for my knee instead of regular PT and I loved that. You walked on a treadmill that was underwater.

How soon will you be able to get into the pool?

That was a big help to my friend. She did have to wear aqua socks when we were walking back and forth across the shallow end. Well and for not slipping on the pool deck too.

Val, Thank you for the goodies. They always make me smile.

Rosie, I know a lot of the people at Rose Valley who had the poles were on Medicaid. Talk to your doctor. He might be able to help you access safety equipment. Especially use the words that you are afraid of slipping and falling in the tub and shower and feel unsafe using the shower chair. Ask if it is possible to get a safety assessment. This is so important. No more injuries please.

I had a great swim and then a great walk today with Buds. I feel so good. Love days like today.

Several people at the assisted living facility where I worked had standing safety poles installed in their rooms. I think that might make it safer to get out. Does your insurance let you get a home health person to come out and do a safety assessment?

Mom put a folded towel on the bench to sit on. More comfortable. It got soaking wet, but she let it drip dry in the shower before tossing it in the hamper. Hope this works well for you.

Another Happy day. I walked Buds in the rain and then got ready to go to pool by myself. Ended up talking to son on phone for 20 minutes, Putting phone in purse when a good friend called. We talked for two hours. Missed my window for swimming. changed into walking clothes again. Walked Buds again, went to gym and walked for 30 minutes in the dry. Came home and walked Buds one more time. He seems happy, and I don't feel guilty for missing swimming.

Eye appt. in morning. So far, my calorie count is at 1300 for the day. I still have a few calories to spare, but at least I am over my 1200 minimum. Think I will watch a little TV and then read a little before sleeping.

Bone density scan was yesterday. That team was warm, friendly and nice and seemed genuinely glad to see me. So unlike my primary NP. Anyway, halfway through the scan all the lights blipped out for 15 seconds, then the generator kicked on. Unfortunately, bone scan machines are not hooked to generators as they are not "life and death". So, after waiting around 15 minutes we rescheduled for next Tuesday.

My car was parked beside the generator room. Thought it was going to put my ears out before I got in the car. Really grateful the clinic is so well equipped and that the more urgent people were able to continue with their appointments. A gentleman in his 80s sat next to me and talked on his phone the whole time we waited. He had cancer and he was scared. Praying he got excellent treatment and advice to help him cope.

The good news is that while in the city, I visited my son before he went to work, hung out at his house till DIL and kids got home and then visited them for a couple hours too.

I had an adventure, had time to read on my book, and spent time to be with people I love. It was a nice day.

For us it is mostly corn on the cob during the summers. I like frozen but there is not a lot of nutritional value for me to get it very often.

Hope you get answers with the MRI.

Today, I made a six quart pot of soup. Mostly veggies with ground turkey and a can of white beans. Tasty. I am going to double check my math, but I think it is coming out to 150 calories per cup.

I also swam 45 minutes with my friend. She is getting her strength back quickly.

Kids bailed on the Haunted House yesterday, so I watched TV instead. Buds and I hiked two miles in two different parks today. It feels good.

Rosie, have you tried hiking poles? When I had a lot of trouble with dizziness and balance they were a blessing. I used a day pack or a fanny pack for wallet, keys and phone. According to my hiking instructor friend that insisted I try them, they take about 15 pounds of pressure off the knees. I have decent knees, but I found they really helped my back. in addition to the balance.

sorry Val about your hip sending prayers your way and do you find that you need to use a cane or some other assistance I generally need to use a cane but like a gal I went to school with said a walker is much sturdier and better than a cane I am hoping one of these days that I can stop using a cane and not use any assistance at all but I need to do more exercises and it hurts my knee when I do because there is something in there that keeps popping in and out with each step but I need to get my shoulder taken care of

I love our Alexa's and yes we have more than one. She is great for updating the shopping list when you are cooking and running low on something. I am heading out to shop and hopping the hip holds up. The foot is doing very well I think and will get an ex-ray this week and hopefully move to a better show. The Wedged boot makes my hip ache since I'm walking like Frankenstein. I have to say it is getting easier.

Rosie may you be blessed with wise and caring doctors and may you find the answers you need.

Val, I even grieve with my friend every time she has a set back with her feet. I can't imagine how the two of you feel. May you also be blessed with wise and caring doctors and may you find the answers you need.

Today's Bliss will be touring the Grange Hall Haunted House with the grandkids.

And....Gratitude that I am not resisting counting calories and am actually enjoying it. Of course Alexa is helping. In between answering simple calorie count questions she is playing Abba and Willie Nelson for me.

Cathy this week I'm looking hard for my bliss. I think every time I have foot surgery I go into a bit of a depression. It seems like I am making progress on my weight loss and exercise and it comes to a halt when I have surgery and a bit leading up to it. I'm my own worse enemy sometimes.

I go for a bone density test next week. I have been shrinking like crazy, but I do everything right so my bones should be good. Hoping they will at least point me towards some PT.

Today's Daily Word affirmation spoke to me. "I live life fully when I claim the gift of bliss."

The other part: "Let your past go, and follow your bliss just for the health of it."

Reminds me of the movie City Slickers:
Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger] This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean s***.
Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?"

Curly: That's what you have to find out.

So the question is what is our bliss?

Hi Rosie, I belong to a group called Frumpy Hikers. Our leader used to hike the Rockies and lead and train kids for hiking. She got very sick, gained a lot of weight and ruined her knees. But her heart is still into hiking. She uses a walker. We take pictures of the trees and share them. Sometimes her hikes consist of only getting out of the car and taking pictures. Nature is so good for the soul.

Last year I walked several 5Ks (3.1 miles) After DH died (a year ago today) I gained 15 pounds and I can only walk 1 mile at a time now before my back gives up. On my really bad days Buddy gets four walks each only five minutes long.

Hiking is a state of mind. It might take us an hour to get to our destinations, but all the planning is fun too and creates it's own type of exercise. I hope that you can drive yourself to a nearby park and maybe walk for three minutes (set the timer) and return to the car. Take some pictures and share them. You too can be queen of the five minute hikes.

Val, I have done quite a bit of chanting this month..."I will stay positive, I will stay positive, I will not eat unhealthy food, I will not eat unhealthy food. I will mow the back yard before it rains, I will mow the back yard before it rains."

Hope that foot of yours gets back into hiking shape. My other close friend that I swim with spent most of four years either in a boot or a cast before she finally had surgery to resolve her issue. She still has to be careful of walking because she can still get ulcers.on her foot. But not like before. Hence the swimming. She is hoping as she gets stronger and loses much of the weight she gained while immoble, that she will be able to walk longer on shopping trips. She loves shopping with her sisters and nieces. Anyway, she also had a lot of trouble with hip and back pain that came on with the boots and casts. She is now seeing an acupuncturist and a chiropractor to help with the pain and to get her back into alignment.

Well, I just leaped out of my chair and raced outside because a neighbor kid was trying to push the porta potty for the construction workers over next door. It is next to a concrete barricade which he stood on and was pushing at the top. He got it rocking but I think maybe his sister threatened to tattle, cause by the time I got out there they were all running towards their house.

Earlier I watched a dad holding a toddler flying a drone, which his older son chased while I washed dishes. They looked so happy. Living in a neighborhood really is quite entertaining.

My best friend's hairdresser and long time friend passed away last night. She was younger than both of us and looked so healthy. It was a battle with cancer in the bones. It went really fast.

DH died from his cancer one year ago tomorrow. I am not a basket case, but I am sure swirling though the emotions. I just let the emotions happen. It is okay.

Buds and I drove to Champoeg State Park today and did a little hiking. That always helps to keep my head and heart in the right place. Big trees are wonderful.

I love squash and soup and squash in soup this time of year. Spaghetti squash is so versatile and really absorbs the flavor of whatever you mix with it. Hearty. Squash is hearty.

Small rant here. I saw a post on facebook about: We can express negative emotions OR positive emotions especially when grieving a loved one. It was the "OR" that bugged me. I think sometimes we really need to express those negative emotions then kick them to the curb AND then express the positive emotions. I believe in AND not OR. If I find it again, I will post it.

For me the delicate squash on sale was a good deal. I am looking forward to some winter squashes in my diet.

Only rules for this team are to be kind and respectful. I am a Gemini. I can topic hop with the best of them.

I found frozen organic burritos at Grocery Outlet. They are pretty good sized and 300 calories. Taste better if I thaw them first and then microwave them. Tortillas get rubbery if I follow instructions.

I know this off-topic but I wanted to share. I often find mild grocery shopping to be like a form of therapy. I get those endorphins flowing!

My heart was set on buying sparkling water yesterday at the grocery store. However, way too expensive. 8 cans for $4.99? They must be out of their mind.

So, down in spirit, I trudged through the soda aisle, not wanting soda.

I came across 3 12-packs of Fresca sparkling soda. I had not had Fresca in a few years. So, for 3 12-packs, on sale, was $11.00 and tax.

Although not what I wanted, still a treat. A rather crisp taste, yet not sickening sweet.

How about you? Anything good at the grocery store?

Val, you are the perfect person to help her. You understand that kind of grief. Anything we do or say is okay. I know grieving people don't want to hear the platitudes, but usually they are given with good intentions and love, so at some point the grieving person will hear your efforts and appreciate them even if not now. And yes a book is so much more helpful than platitudes. It was what made me realize what I was feeling was normal after my sister died.

And also the current roller coaster. I feel wonderful, strong, smart and emotionally stable today. I am so grateful for this. Already walked two miles and swam for 30 minutes. Most I have done this year in one day and I still feel good. No CFS symptoms. So. I am going to take Buds for a romp in the park and I will not feel guilty for feeling good and happy.

Hope you all can find strong and peaceful days too.

I sent my niece a couple of books about infant grief and also a couple that were for her son to help explain it. She and I chatted via messanger last night and I hope that I have somehow helped a little. She has a long road ahead of her but I think she is on the right track at finding ways to heal.

Jo, So good to see you again.

I am struggling maintaining October as my favorite month of the year. I have always loved this time, but I am also coming up on the one year anniversary of Tom's death. I grieved 20 years before he died, then divorced him six months prior. I am not beating myself up sad, but I am still sad. Sad about losing this wonderful man to drugs, sad about not being able to be what he needed and sad about losing what I thought was a pretty perfect nine years. Now, that I dumped, I am moving on to the gratitudes. Grateful, I had him for nine years before the drugs took over. Glad that I was held and cherished by him even after the drugs took over. Glad that I got to be in his children's lives. Glad that the end came quickly for him. He died within seven days of his stage 4 cancer diagnosis. He had suffered enough over the years with the degenerative disc disease pain without adding the cancer pain to it. I am grateful he had faith and that I have faith and that I believe he is getting to start over again with a brighter healthier future on his next adventure. I am grateful that his death brought us back together again and helped heal some of the anger that we all experienced.

emoticon Jo.

The 6 year anniversary of my son's death is coming up in a month and I have been thinking about him a lot lately, missing him so much.

I guess all we can do is hang on and keep putting one foot in front of the other...

Hi,

It's been a while since I've posted here. Today, well, this whole week, really, has been hard. Tomorrow will be 6 years My Guy passed away, and it falls on the same weekday he died. Wifey won't be home until 5-ish tomorrow (she's studying in a city about 2hrs away), and I am horrible at asking friends to come over to keep me company. I struggled a lot this morning, but the afternoon seems to be a bit better.

I just really miss him.

Jo

I am so sorry Val. Will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

I know what your niece with the healthy baby boy is going through. I was a young mom with a bouncing two year old when my cousin lost her baby during childbirth due to some severe issues. I walked into her room because I knew I needed to see her and let her know I loved her and I promptly burst into tears and walked out again. I could not even began to fathom what she was going through. Just thinking about it still makes me cry. I did make it back into her room and she appreciated my effort. Even though I am the older she has always been more mature. I would like to think that my empathetic grieving was like prayer going out into the world and finding some solace and comfort for her. Think I will text my daughter and tell her how much I love her. Also, my cousin and let her know how much I love her too. (Won't mention this though. Would like to think I have grown up a little.)

I have a niece that had a baby girl with some health issues prematurely. She lived over a week and was making progress but then took a turn for the worse and died. Fast forward two days later my other niece had a very healthy baby boy. I am torn between happiness for one and a broken heart for the other. This new baby will be a life long reminder to the other mother what she doesn't have. I hate when others join the bereaved parents of the world... it hurts more that it is someone I love.

I am guessing the one you got at Home Depot is sturdier than the ones on Amazon from China. Also, just checked and the prices range from $29. to $64. depending.

Is this chair sturdy, do you feel safe using it and do you like it? If so I would keep it and not bother with the hassle of returning to save a couple dollars. If you don't feel safe using it, by all means send it back to Home Depot.

Best of luck with this.

Coconut oil is antimicrobial and softens the skin as long as you are not allergic to coconuts.

Rosie, sending healing thoughts and prayers your way for you and your brother.

Spent a whirlwind three days exploring the Olympic National Forest. Saw some really big trees. One was estimated to be 1000 years old.

I feel so bad emoticon for my brother, :( I wish/pray he was able to get out and do things on his own, and drive his truck emoticon and go where ever he wants to go, it's sad and it makes me sad to see him so sore, and not able to walk because of the sore on his foot and bruises where he fell and never said a thing to anyone. Lord I pray for healing for the wounds on my brothers feet and for his pain to be taken away and help him to be able to walk again, in Jesus name I pray, Amen emoticon
