Sadly, the 2019 Katy Trail ride was cancelled due to flooding.

If hubby and I can both get healthy at the same time, we will start riding again. Right now hunting season is keeping us woods roads and trails.

Go YOU!

I've found my tolerance for chilly rides has greatly diminished these days. It's rare to find me heading out on a ride below 50 degrees anymore.

As I re-read my entry from THREE. MONTHS. AGO! I’m afraid I have not accomplished very much “building my pyramid” towards riding the Katy Trail.
With our influx of wintry weather and last weekend’s equestrian event (the weather turned out beautiful, I just couldn’t be in 2 places at once!), I got my trike out for the 1st time this month only yesterday...
But next weekend I’m going down to the coast to visit a friend; I’m planning on hauling my trike to cycle Seawall Blvd which should be awesome if weather cooperates.

The Virginia Creeper is one of my favorite Rail Trails, although parts of it would be difficult for a trike.

The New River trail is also beautiful and more trike friendly.

I'm not sure, but I think the Katy trail may be a trail-friendly venue that works for those who want to do their own ride.

I know here in upstate New York the Erie Canal trail fits that category and also down in Pennsylvania the Great Allegheny Passage and the C & O Rail Trail are others to consider.

I hugely enjoyed the FANY (Five Hundred Miles Across New York) ride earlier this summer from Plattsburgh to Poughkeepsie, NY:

www.fanyride.com

There was only one day with some rain. It was a beautiful ride along Lake Champlain and the Hudson River!

I am SO sad & disappointed...
I did not sign up for this organized bike tour of the Katy Trail in MO bcz it conflicted w/a horseback riding event I ALSO wanted to do - now they have put out the word that the trail ride is canceled, and the bike tour is booked solid!
I am thinking about "doing my own thing" - driving up into the Texas Panhandle to do a section of Rails to Trails between Estelline & Quitaque. Maybe I can even get Hubby on board?

It's so exciting to read about everyone's riding plans. I tend to stay around FL because of my work schedule. We have some really nice Rail Trails and active bike clubs that have several organized biking events, as well as several charity rides.

I like to go to an event called Festivelo held in the Walterboro SC region over the Veteran's Day weekend each year. There are daily supported road rides and evenings filled with food and socialization.

Hooray for YOU! I'd love to join you on your journey, but have jam-packed my summer already.

I find myself planning at least a few months in advance for such travels. Between the FANY ride ( www.fanyride.com/ ) and multiple family reunions / celebrations around the USA, I'm a busy puppy this cycling season!

Kudos for asking though! Hoping you round up an AWESOME POSSE! :-)

Well, I completed 74 mi of my MS 150 over 2 d, not too shabby!
But I am serious about organizing a small group to drive up & tour the Katy Trail. Adventure Cycling offers an inn-to-inn tour; I’m past the age of wanting to camp out.
I need 8 people to make this work; anyone interested??

I did the MS 175 City to Shore from Cherry Hill to Ocean City, NJ several years ago, well run super ride!

Katy Trail sounds like a great one too.

I’ve also heard good things about the Pittsburgh to DC route via the C & O and Great Allegheny Passage

I’m so glad to have found this group! Last year I splurged on an Ice Sprint recumbent trike since for the life of me, I could not fit a comfortable saddle on my 2-wheeler...
I am interested in touring & have been looking at an Adventure Cycling trip on the Katy Trail in Missouri - too bad the dates in September are in conflict w/an equestrian event I plan on attending.
This weekend I will cycle as far as I can in my MS150 charity event - once again, I feel woefully undertrained but I’ll do the best I can. Last year I completed 90 mi of it over 2 days. We’ve had so much rain & nasty winter weather.

Don, what a beautiful area! If I didn't have plans those dates I would be game. Perhaps next year!

The thing about registering as a group for RAGBRAI is, if one team member gets selected in the lottery, the whole teams gets into the ride. So, you have a better chance of getting in. And, finding a group to get into isn't too bad. You can also get day passes if you don't want to ride the whole week. Those are easy to get.

I hear the tricky thing about RAGBRAI is getting in with a pre-existing group as it’s the only way to do it. I’m daunted by that. But with retirement only a few weeks away, time is opening up for me.

I would be remiss if I didn’t put a plug out there for our own bike club’s weekend of fun coming up in June. For $100 you can’t beat a wonderful weekend of road cycling in the Finger Lakes & Wine Country of Upstate New York!

Don RAGBRAI is an absolute blast! I highly recommend! One year I even ran into BILL60! One thing you can't train for is riding with thousands of people on the road. But, it is worth every training moment.

I've heard RAGBRAI is like celebrating Mardis Gras on wheels...sounds like a total blast!

A couple of our bike bike club members have done RAGBRAI and sing the praises of it.

DDorn, the FANY Ride looks like fun. And, even more so with folks from your cycling club. I have gone on RAGBRAI, a ride across Iowa, a few times. It is a fantastic ride with lots of folks.

BevPressley, those trails look beautiful! I live about a half a mile from the Deadwood Mickelson Trail. We get a lot of snow in the winter but I am able to recreate on it during the Winter.

I have ridden the Five Hundred Miles Across New York (FANY Ride) before from the Niagara area to Saratoga Springs. Normally once I do a ride I'm looking to do a different ride, so I wouldn't do it again...although i will say this was extraordinarily well run!

However, this year Karen has re-vamped the whole ride into something different:

Five Hundred Miles Across New York from the Northland of Plattsburgh to the southern Hudson region of Poughkeepsie!

A number of our bike club members are eyeing this up and I may well join in the fun! :-)

Hey all,

Spring is right around the corner f and I am planning on hitting a few rails to trails this summer. One on my bucket list is the Hiawatha Rails to Trails in Idaho. Just wondering if anyone out there has ridden this trail, and if you liked it? And, if anyone has any plans to ride any rails to trails this summer?
