If you are looking for a place to donate your bike parts search for a bike kitchen or bike co-op in your area.

Don ... that is AWESOME! I was thinking ... I have a couple spare tires and tubes that I no longer need (new) ... and was thinking I could mail them there.

But ... you thoughts about maybe seeing if one is in other Spark people's neck of the woods has me wondering now ... I will do a seach in my area later this weekend.

Being all-thumbs mechanically, I can't take any credit for this effort, but still I am SO PROUD of our local bike club for their efforts behind this program!

Fresh Cycles

Here is an e-mail I'll share from our club's leader:

"Several of you have been curious as to what may be happening to the several Bicycle Give Away Programs the STBC, Inc. supports.

Binghamton's FRESH CYCLES has been resurrected and Ken Holmes has started to update the website. Take a look.

Several links to current TV coverage are given. Some of the site content is a bit dated, but still informative. Ken is working on it.

Thanks to the many of you who donated time, energy and supplies to get the FRESH CYCLE program where it is today. We gave the program a real jump start. FRESH CYCLES must have near 150 machines in storage on site and off site, many ready to give out, and much to do on others. But they are underway, have a plan, and some great volunteer personnel. Their major source of machines right now is the Binghamton PD and there will be another 50 given to them from that source soon.

The yearly May 10, 2014 Sarah Jane Johnson UMC Bike Day is being planned and bicycles are being accumulated. We have about 70 in storage ready to go. We recently picked up 10 from the Endicott PD and expect an equal number in December. Contact is being established with the JC PD to pick up an unknown number (50?) soon.

We are likely to schedule a one day blitz as we did last season when many of you showed up to refurbish many machines that were then given away at the May event. You will be hearing from us.

In the meantime, keep us in mind should you have bicycles, parts, tires, tubes, tools, etc. that need a new home, we can move them for you. You donations will help both programs, add to your storage space and benefit the youth of our community.

Let us get them all on 2 wheels!!"

Are those AWESOME efforts or WHAT? :-)

I'm sharing both out of pride and also a hope that perhaps our club might spread the idea out among the members of our SparkTeam and you might start similar programs in YOUR communities!
