Hi L31R31,
I'm impressed at your doing a tri. with a broken spoke in 88 degree heat! With that kind of determination, you will do well with your weight loss.

I'm not really slim or stylish, but believe in the power of speaking into reality what you want.
I've been struggling with weight since I was 9 years old. Fortunately, found cycling in 1982 and weight has been stable within 10-15 pounds, but NEVER got to my ideal weight. Sparkpeople has given me the tools with giving me my BMR calorie range, mealplanner, and exercise tracker. In 45 days I lost eight pounds.

Keep riding, it's the best fun recreational, sport, utility activity!

Welcome to the group L31R31. I know I can exercise till the cows come home, but if I don't track my calories I never lose weight. Don't really know why, but I think I think I'm eating less than I am, especially if I'm exercising, I think the mind set becomes "I can afford this treat since I worked out so hard" It really doesn't work that way, at least not for me. Good luck w/ the program, I think this is a great educational site w/ great tools to help us meet our goals, whatever they are.

Hey L31R31 - Glad to have you. You sound like you get out in the saddle more than me these days. i have been obsessing over paddling and swimming lately. Fall shoudl be a better cycling season.

Don't be discouraged by the wieght thing, focus on other things to track. I sometime fixate on my weight, but then I try to take in the big picture. For example, this year I complete a sprint triathlon and 3 1-mile open water swims, my resting heart rate went from 65 to 40, my thyroid function improved immensely and my measurements have improved - lost size where I wanted and gained size where it is good. Although biker thighs are not easy for jean fittings.

I have been cycling for about 1 year... I ride about 12-25 miles at least 3 times a week sometimes more. I have a specialized Sequioa...I might not be able to spell...The photo is from last August....but I am suprised that I have not lost more burn a lot of calories cycling I do a lot of hills...It is usually a good work out....I am looking forward to this site helping me with my bad dietary habits...
I ride with a fried that is about 110 lbs...lets not talk about her...
My first ride was in Ohio it was 34 miles...then we rode the bike part of a triathalon ...11miles, 8 of it uphill ....I broke a spoke and still did it on a 88 degree day in 1 hour and 4 minutes...
Our best ride so far the MS 150 150miles in 2 days...I spent 12 hours on the did I feel it.
Still that is a lot of work to still be FAT....I am healthier but still FAT.... emoticon
