You are right! Without the exercise the weight loss is very, very slow. And it is very important to get those 8 glasses of liquid down! Can't put enough emphasis on that.

I try to keep within a 1,200 to 1,500 calorie range. My height is 5'4". This week I am finally experiencing some loss despite not being able to exercise this past week. Those days of losing 10 pounds in two weeks are long gone! Really need to concentrate on maintaining a healthy lifestyle when it comes to eating and exercising. I also realized I had cut down on water as the weather became a little cooler. So am hoping to keep a slow and steady weight loss.

We all have plateaus (whether we like them or not). Doing something is better than nothing. None of us let the weight or the lack of execise happen overnight so don't expect it to disappear overnight. We have to work at it.

I think age most definitely has something to do with it, for when I was in my late 20's and early 30's and wanted (needed) to lose 5 or 10 pounds, I could do it in the blink of an eye. But now that I'm 72 I have to struggle to lose each and every pound. And the weight GOES ON EASIER as you get older too. One meal in a restaurant can easily put a pound on me, then to lose it usually takes 2 or 3 days, sometimes more!

You mentioned that you did not want to go lower in the amount of calories you consume per day -- what range are you in? And how tall are you?

Despite following a plan for the right calories and foods for my age the weight is at a stand still the past two weeks. I don't want to cut calories further. However I am feeling better so maybe ability to exercise will increase. This is not a plateau so can't use that as an excuse. Does age have anything to do with this?

I guess we all tend to put exercise on the back burner at times. We need to work at making it a daily habit, like brushing our teeth, or showering! A good place to start would be to work at drinking your 8 glasses of liquid each day -- notice I didn't say WATER, as it all counts. It has been declared that soda, iced tea, coffee, water -- it all counts, but water is BEST!

Thank you for a wonderful welcome! My weight loss journey is beginning again after many beginnings in the past. This time I am concentrating on improving my health rather than getting into a smaller size. This is my resolve week to really get serious about improving my stamina. I am fortunate to have access to the University gym so need to quit making excuses and join everyone on this team who is making progress in the right direction. I have so many projects on the front burner that I put exercise on the back burner!

Hi Georgia Grannie! Thanks for joining our team. I'm sure we have people on here who enjoy doing the same things as you do -- and that includes the grandkids. I happen to be 72 also, although I am a bit older than you with my birthday in October.

Personally I think it's a good thing to have a husband who still works a couple of days -- gets him out of the house and brings in more money. Both are wonderful! lol

Yes! Please post often -- it's been proven that people who post and join in have a tendency to lose weight more quickly than those who do not.

Good Luck in reaching your goals. Believe me, the older we get the harder it is.

Hugs, SCOTMAMA (Eve)

Hi retired seniors! I am a 72 year old retired RN who just joined a SparkTeam. My husband and I live in Southeast Georgia. I am enjoying being retired although there never seems to be enough time to get all my projects done. Despite having officially retired 10 years ago, my husband is still teaching at the university two days a week. My hobbies are reading mysteries, sewing and art projects. I recently had shoulder surgery with the accompanying physical therapy. Since surgery I have gained back weight that I had worked hard to lose last year. I remember the days when losing 20 pounds was a relatively easy undertaking! I retired at 65 and do miss working with medical people but do not miss the long hours and never ending paper work. I basically follow the WW point system but not seeing pounds dropping but since starting SP have noticed a decrease in measurements. We enjoy being close to our grandchildren who are the delight of our older years. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary January 21, 2011. My birthday is 2/17/39
