I STILL remember the feelings of:
That first kiss
The taste of homemade ice cream
The thrill of getting new shoes
The thrill of going DOWN on the roller-coaster
The thrill of stepping hard on the gas pedal
The disappointment of NOT being asked to dance
The thrill of hearing "grandma" from a little child

What are some of the things you still remember?

yes, it was called "oleo" which was short for oleomargarine. MN and WI being dairy states were the last states to allow the sale of oleo within its borders.

I remember the only pizza we had was Chef Boy r Dee from the box. You made the crust, put on the sauce and sprinkled par. cheese on it. Delicious at that time and a real treat. I'm sure it was much lower in calories that the people eat now. P

When we used to have the milkman make deliveries to our home every other day. We had a metal box (which I guess was insulated)left outside by the front door, and we could get milk, cream, eggs, butter and I don't remember what else delivered and left in the box. I was great...and we didn't worry about anyone stealing anything either!

I also remember not too many years ago when most of the time we ate all of our meals at home. It was a very rare treat to go to a restaurant. Nowadays it is a drive-thru probably 2 or 3 times a week in most households (not mine). As for me, I haven't eaten fast food for about 40 years.

Also remember that my Mom made nearly ALL of my clothes. In fact, when my two sons were little I used to sew identical shirts for them all the time.

I also remember when stores were closed on Sundays. We went to church in our "Sunday best", and wore hats and gloves. We also wore Black for funerals. I was shocked a few years ago when I saw teens at a funeral dressed in shorts and halter tops of all colors and designed.

I remember when all the stores were closed on Sunday and everyone went to church all dressed up in a dress and we had to play quietly all day and no TV on Sunday. how it has changed. Sunday is now the second biggest shopping day of the week..
And I remember when we were scared of the teachers and we got spanked at the principal's office and again when we got home.
Now-half the teachers are scared of the kids and you are not allowed any form of punishment--might hurt their "ego" and is "child abuse"

I remember when the teachers were always right, when I got in trouble at school, I knew I would also get in trouble at home. I also remember it was ok to be hugged by our teachers if we were hurt or hold hands with our teachers. Also it was ok for the principal to give students a swat with a paddle not hard, but hard enough to get one's attention. My how things have changed!

house calls oh my too many at my house my mother had eight babies only one the fourth born a navy hospital and she said never again...seven born at home by doctor..yes, I remember when we all could go to the play ground and play or just in our own yard ....we never heard of children being kidnapped until the Lindbergh baby and after that others rich or not...even having eight my mother would have gone to piece even if one of us were gone. I didn't like living at home for I was the one being the girl have to do all the ironing, washing, help with the cooking, cleaning the house and stay up until after one in the morning doing my homework. Liked school better than being at home. I hated the beating brothers could do not wrong. Couldn't run away had no where to go. Finally found some one to marry and at least he doesn't kick me, hit me but I'm learn words are hurtful too but still married to him and putting up with how he treats me. Life go on no matter what always looking over shoulders. emoticon

This is from a post at the SP Cafe site. It's really fun...and sometimes a bit sad to read. So many commented on how when they were children...they could play outside all day w/o being afraid. I remember that also.

I also am old enough to remember when Doctors still made house calls!
