It was cool today but not cold enough to need a hat or gloves and it was sunny. We went to church this morning and then stopped at Lowe's on the way home. Then we did our regular trip to the dog park about 4pm.

The weather in Phoenix has been perfect -- finally a time when we can go for walks and sit on our patios. I'm in Las Vegas this week-end visiting my daughter, and it's the same here -- she, for one, is really glad to see the hot weather gone and a LOW electric bill (no need for A/C).

As we have the first cooler weather of this winter, I have decided to embrace winter. I am going to enjoy that it is bracing, I will dress warmly and just get out and have fun. I am playing pickleball regularly so I bought some clothing to layer and I am going to buy some gloves that will work well with the pickleball paddle.

Other than pickleball which is 8 or 8:30, I will wait till later in the day and then get out to walk (or bike if is isn't too windy and/or cold) and go to the dog park in the afternoons as long as it isn't wet.

When the cold is discouraging I will remember the months from May to September when it is rarely less than 90 degrees and remind myself to enjoy the break from heat and remember that the heat will be back. Also I will appreciate that we frequently have wonderful sunshine even if it isn't particularly warm. Sunshine helps always.

Actually here in the Phoenix area, winter is our NICE time of the year -- so we are planting flowers that are too delicate for the HOT summers we have, we can now plant pansies and petunias! We are able to enjoy outdoor sports like golf, walks and other outdoor activities. Life in general is so much more pleasant in the winter than in the summer!

We also tend to eat outdoors a lot more in the winter perhaps not for breakfast because it could be a bit nippy out, but lunch or dinner is great and we BBQ a lot more.

I fill my time with reading and jigsaw puzzles but I sure have a hard time finding an activity that replaces my gardening and yard work.

Hope is here-Perfection isn't

God Bless

I live in a condo, so even though we get tons of snow here in MA, the Association is responsible for snow removal, including the driveway and all the way up to my front door !!!!.....I am on the computer a lot, and spend some time downstairs on the stationary bike and my treadmill.....Of course, I also spend some time on my pool table......(playing pool that is :)

Eve (from Texas!) where have you been? It seems like ages since I've seen anything posted by you.

Don't forget team! Tomorrow is our Monthly Weigh In.
Let's see those POUNDS on the post, not something vague like "I've lost 12 pounds." For me it's like January didn't even count, I was up and down all month and think I'll end up just about where I started on January 1st. Bummer!

Annie,
Glad that you liked the suggestion, even old fashioned board games come in handy too. It's such fun, with so much laughter,(card games are great too,we did a lot of those things when we did not have TV) especially when you are playing for fun and think of the memories being created also.
Have a blessed night.

Roz,

Great idea. DH likes jigsaw puzzles and I suggest them when he is a bit bored. I like them too and we have a good time putting it together. We have favorites--some go together fairly quickly and some take along time. We decided how long we want to work on a puzzle and pick one that fits.

Good topic, although I live in the Tropics.
When we lived in England and had a young family we spent many winter evenings doing jigsaw puzzles and it was taxing and relaxing and exciting and educational for the children too.
Maybe doing jigsaws can be an inexpensive way to spend a few hours in the Winter evenings.

All the retired seniors in my area of the world have left their cold winter homes and have come to Arizona where the winters are mild, most days are in the mid-70's.

But....for those few days when it IS cold and miserable here; I tend to read, sew, or cook!

A new member mentioned being bored and winter cold is part of that. When we worked we got up and out no matter what but now that we don't have to brave the weather each morning it is easy to stay home and hibernate. Let's all chime in with ways to spend happy time when it is cold and dreary.

cross-stitch
sew
keep indoor plants
play with my puppy
keep in touch with friends and family via e-mail
learn something new-the internet is a great place to start the research
make to-do lists for when the weather improves
find a new game on the internet and play - I love jigzone jigsaw puzzles
do the daily sudoku and/or crossword
