It is hard to believe that this year is almost over in a couple of day. The year has been full of ups and downs for all us. But, that is what makes us strong and to going on. It is the way we learn and grow. With the New year coming I hope with the lessons that we have learned and the strengths that we have built we will be able to take on the New Year head on. WE CAN DO THIS! WE CAN BEAT ANYTHING! WE ARE WINNERS! We are the little train going up the hill and the torus beating the hare. Each year we get better and stronger and each year we have New challenges to meet and get through. And we do. So, with that said I wish each of you a very Happy New Year -- Have a Wonderful 2017!

Another 80+ day here. I had to go to the podiatrist so that took up part of my morning. Met up with friends and we checked out a couple of thrift stores and got some bargains. All clothes were $1 at one and 99 cents at another so I have 4 new to me prs of shorts (2 were actually brand new!), a top and for the park I found a bird bath and a ceramic birdhouse.

We've been celebrating Christmas at work this week. We had a Christmas party/potuck that went on all day long a couple of days ago. Great food but I was actually pretty good and didn't have too much of the worst things that people brought. I brought home a couple of servings of some really good red chile posole that one of our phlebotomists had fixed and today I had some really great green chile stew that someone brought today for my dinner. The stew was spicy enough to clear out my sinuses very nicely. emoticon I'm working on Christmas Eve and then I'll be going to my aunt and uncle's house for Christmas dinner. I'll get to see two of their children, two partners, and two grandchildren, which should be quite nice. After that I'll be off on Monday and then it's back to the rat race... emoticon

I can't remember how much I've told you about what's going on with my job situation so I'll just tell you that a few days after I sent the letter about why I was fired after my husband's death I got a phone call and had my pre-interview interview, so apparently they're willing to consider me eligible for rehire after 15 years without any major issues at my current job. I'm still waiting for them to schedule my interview but I'm feeling okay about the prospects of being hired and still having a job come March 1st of next year. That's a pretty big weight off my shoulders. emoticon

There's really not much else to tell all of you right now. I hope that everyone has a truly wonderful Christmas or Chanukkah. (I'm sure I spelled that wrong...) Take the time to enjoy spending time with your friends and family, and if you're getting honest to goodness Christmas where you live...for goodness sake, keep it to yourself because I really don't want any of it this year. emoticon emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Sandy-hope you truly do relax and get some rest on your days off! Merry Christmas.

Gail the test came back as normal so STILL NO ANSWERS! We are going to take a break thru Christmas and New Years and see our primary Jan 5 and will see what he suggests. I still think it is IBS but no dr has said that.

We went to dinner with our friends this evening and Bill ate his salad and then couldn't eat his meal. We brought it home so guess I have his meal covered for tomorrow-he has steak, broiled shrimp and a baked potato.

I got done what I had to this morning and this afternoon while Bill slept, I enjoyed our Florida room-read the past two days newspapers and a couple of magazines. Hoping I can do more of this in the coming months.

Good Morning:

Sandy: Always good to hear from you. Glad you'll have 2 days off.

Pat: Be sure to let us know how those tests turn out for Bill.

I'm bringing an appetizer for Christmas dinner and I'm vacillating between cheese and crackers and something more elaborate. I've got a pie crust in the freezer and was thinking of a quiche or tourtiere. Tourtiere takes two crusts, but....

Going to make a run to Aldi's this morning and make my decision there.

Sending you all a hug.

Well, we are expecting snow for Christmas. It is to start snowing here tomorrow. I have a doctor's appt. for my shot for hives tomorrow. They have been helping me a lot. I have not had a break out in a year. I have one more night of working a 5 to 1am shift. Then off for 2 days. Then it is back for 3 overnight shifts. Going to Costco to buy some food for Christmas. It will be just the 2 of us and we will be relaxing.

hope everyone is doing well. emoticon

Took Bill for his test this morning. We had to be there at 7:30 which wasn't too bad. However, they neglected to tell me the test would take 3 hrs!! Luckily I took plenty of reading material. I am hoping we will find out something tomorrow or Fri.

I made chex mix this afternoon to give as gifts. I am giving that instead of baking cookies. It is gluten free so Bill can enjoy some too.

Was happy to see the sun come out this afternoon. We started the day at 53 so a jacket was needed. Sun came out about noon and we got up to 70 but a brisk breeze.

Gail I will take my heat any day over your cold. We have lived down here long enough now that we freeze when it gets below 50!

I actually got in a pretty good walk this morning and Bill & Abbie accompanied me on one round. I worked in the yard for about 90 min and hauled off 2 five gallon buckets full of trimmings. Bill worked on our sprinkler system.

I took him to the gastro doc this afternoon. He is to undergo another test on Wed. I think we are to the point the dr is throwing darts at the wall as he has ruled out so many things. Bill gets better for a short time and then sick again.

Well, Pat, where up to -3, but the windchill is still -22. Don't feel bad for us. Just make sure you appreciate the warmth. In the summer, when you guys have unbearable heat we will be in the 75-85 range.

I lost all the important appointments I had on my computer calendar and am in the process of reconstructing it. Taught me a lesson. Got to keep a written account as well as one on the computer.

Stay well and be happy everyone,

Good Mrorning:

It's -5 now with a wind/chill of -22 and the wind/chills will remain like that through the day and night. Brrrr

Yesterday the two neighbor girls who shovel snow for me brought me some home made cookies for Christmas. What a sweet gesture. I only met them a month or so ago when I hired them for the season.

Hope you are all safe and happy. Stay well everyone.

Stay warm and safe Gail. Looks like most of the Midwest is getting hit. Our kids in Billings got hit with about 18 inches of snow and more to come and sub zero temps. A cousin in mid-MO says it is icy there and I hear STL is the same.

We were a balmy 78 today and going to 83 tomorrow so it is hard to fathom all that bad weather.
Kevin finished the bedroom and put in a new t-strip between our living room and family room this afternoon. Think that is all the work on the house for now. Maybe next spring we will do some wallpaper removal - will wait and see on that one.

Sorry for the cold weather you are having. It is hard to imagine how cold that is. We had a small cold front come thru and dropped 10 degrees so we topped out at 73 today. Perfect weather for us and wish I could share it with everyone.

Yes, Gail when we get finished I will post pics. It is getting close but I need to find pictures to finish the room.

Kevin originally thought it would take 2 days but it is going to end up being 4 days.

We had made plans to play cards with our friends this afternoon and went ahead as planned. I made a big pot of vegetable soup today, some deviled eggs and a GF devils food cake and served that for dinner to everyone. I sent soup and cake home with Kevin and I still have both left. I have frozen the remainder of the cake for Bill for later.

Good Morning:

The actual temperature right now is -4 and the wind/chill is -22. This is the old Winter in Wisconsin that I remember from more than a decade age. In recent years our winters have been milder. I will not venture forth today. Why bother? When it gets like this I just stay in. So glad I have everything I need.

Gail

Nan: Are you hit by the arctic front?

Pat: Will you post photos after the renovations are complete?

Val: So glad you have the resume behind you. Once it's turned in it's done. As for Christmas, do you spend it alone or do you meet with friends?

Well I got my application submitted last night so that's a big weight off my shoulders. A lady from the human resources department of the new company left me a message today so I'm going to try to call her before I leave for work tomorrow. From what I hear the interviews will take place in a few weeks so I guess there's still that to stress about, but I'm not planning on doing that...

I'm sure that the stress caused by having to write a resume and cover letter (which are things I've done no more than one time before so I had a bit of trouble with them) and apply for my job...again...has had something to do with my procrastination and stress about getting presents in the mail but as Gail (I think) said, I've been having this issue for several years. Since my divorce, I think. Funny thing is that every year I have all (or nearly all) of my gifts purchased by June or July...and then the stress and procrastination sets in. I don't know why Christmas has caused me so much stress in recent years. Maybe it has something to do with being single again. Nobody living with me to help me get motivated or to celebrate this whole season with. I doubt that will change particularly soon, but at least I just had a little bit of insight into the issue...

I hope that everything is going really well for all of you wonderful ladies. Stay warm and try not to get as stressed out as I do at this time of year. Try to relax and feel the joy of the season. That's been helping me a bit...enough to get all of my envelopes addressed tonight, so at least that's a step in the right direction...Have a great Wednesday.

There was much rejoicing!

Val hope you finished up and got things submitted so that is no longer a worry for you. The post office this time of year is never fun and the longer you wait the worse it is. I mailed everything last week and only had 5 people ahead of me so it didn't take too long.

Work is progressing in our bedroom and we have hopes it will be finished tomorrow. Kevin has about 3/4 of the flooring laid and then will have to do the trim work. I am loving how it looks.

We are above average on our temps-actually have the a/c on. We were 84 today. I wouldn't have it on but have wanted to keep it cooler for Kevin while he works.

Good morning:

Going out today to run some errands and tonight is a Christmas pot luck with my bridge group and some friends. I made a chocolate yogurt bundt cake yesterday and will be bringing that. Also, I made some creme fraiche as a topping. Hope it turned out all right. It was a new recipe.

It is currently 8 F with a wind chill of -6. We had our snow (8") last weekend so the roads are clear. We don't expect another bout of snow till the weekend. I must say we are more fortunate in terms of temperatures and snowfall than most areas.

Stay warm, safe and happy everyone.

Gail

Val: It will be wonderful when you have your application and resume turned in. Perhaps concern about that is contributing to your procrastination with expediting your gifts. That said, I seem to recall you have the same problem every year. Ever think of having everything done before Thanksgiving and mailing everything by December 1st?

I haven't seen any snow yet this winter, though some people who live up closer to the mountain (in the foothills where I used to live) have seen a little bit of it recently. But it has definitely been cold here. Not the kind of cold people up north are seeing, but then we're not used to temperatures getting down to freezing every night so we're kind of spoiled...

I've gotten my resume and cover letter together so now I need to turn in my application online for the job I've been doing for 14 years already. emoticon Guess I'll do that in a few minutes. I really can't wait till all of this is over and I know that I've still got my job...

I've got all of my Christmas presents, and now as usual I'm just having trouble getting myself to wrap and mail them. This year I'm doing a gift exchange with some women in a Christian group on Facebook so I've got to sign 12 cards and put 12 little gifts in their envelopes so that I can take them to the Post Office on my way to work one day this week. Then I have to wrap and mail the gifts for my parents and my brother and sister-in-law. I really don't know why I have such a hard time with this every year...but I do. emoticon Oh well, maybe everyone will get a second Christmas after the real Christmas is over if I can't get this taken care of tonight or tomorrow...

I hope that everyone is doing well and staying warm. Enjoy the holiday season, regardless of which holiday you celebrate at this time of the year. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

We had snow all day yesterday. I'm glad I don't have to go either, Nan.

Read a good book yesterday, A BEAM OF LIGHT, by Andrea Camilleri. Wonderful, wonderful to enjoy a good book and good music.

Winter is soup weather, so yesterday I pulled some of the turkey bones out of the freezer and made turkey vegetable soup. Very good comfort food.

I'm supposed to go to a pot luck tomorrow night. Think I'll bake something today to bring along. If I decide not to go I'll just put it in the freezer.

Hope you all stay safe and well.

Tomorrow we start on the flooring in the bedroom (well not us but the handyman who is doing it). I will be glad to get this job done. This will have the bedroom 90% finished. I really would have preferred to wait till after the holidays but need to do it when the man is ready to do the job! However, we won't be getting the driveway done tomorrow-rain is predicted.

Good Morning

I was on an emotional roller coaster on Friday. When I went out to start my car nothing. I called the dealership thinking it was an electrical problem. They told me to call road service, get it jump started and bring it over. Well, the guy that came said my battery was deader than a doornail. Went to Sears and got a new battery. Whew! For a while there I was wondering if I'd need a new car.

It snowed last night and will snow again tonight. Oh Joy!

Stay safe, warm and happy.

Compared to the rest of you our cold sounds warm but we dropped down into the 60's today and after the high 80's it felt really cold and tomorrow morning we will start the day about 47-the coldest we have seen since last Feb.

I worked this morning for Sharon. She had to go for a mammogram and then they did a sonogram (I think) and now she has to have a biopsy. Hoping it is just a cyst.

I made a pot of chili since it turned cold. Thinking of potato soup after this is gone. I love soup and it is something I can make that is GF for Bill.

Well, I am off today and I am glad I am as we got 4" of snow last night and it is really cold this morning. We are still getting flurries today. DH has gone to the store as he is use to driving in this from being a truck driver. It is 35 but feels like 29. 35 is our high today. Our low is 22. Brrr!

How everyone is having a great week and are staying warm. emoticon

Well, it looks like I'm going through another spell. A couple of weeks ago the chip which regulates the lock on the trunk of my car went and it will cost around $700 to repair it. So far I haven't done anything. I've had the car for 8 1/2 years but it only has 23,000 + miles on it. Haven't decided what to do. I can live without the trunk but the spare tire is there so.... Two days ago one of the drawers in my kitchen cupboards broke. I contacted the carpenter yesterday but haven't heard back. He charges a lot so I'm holding my breath.

Buyers beware this holiday season. I was watching the national news last night and it seems California is suing four major retailers for false pricing. This includes Macy, Kohls, JC Penney, and Sears. These retailers are offering big sales at huge discounts. The problem is the they never sold the items at the "original" price. Not good. Just be sure that you are satisfied with the prices when you make your purchases. Don't believe the "mark downs".

Going to go out today to run some errands, but I'll be so happy to get back home. I want to avoid the crowds.

Sending hugs to all.

Gail

Another above average temperature today-87-but the cold front will be moving in tomorrow and then you will be hearing some southerners crying about the cold. Nothing like what all of you northerners are dealing with but anything below 60 and we think it is freezing!

I got my packages mailed today, cards are done, new flower bed is finished, and getting the rock into the entry island. Things are coming together.

We delivered the packages for the angel children we adopted and the toys for tots donations so almost thru with those things. Need to take my adopt a senior gift and drop it off-maybe tomorrow or Fri. Have to pick up our flooring tomorrow.

Just had to mention the "giveaway" that one of our local supermarket chains, Pick 'n Save, is offering. If you spend $25 at the store you get 5 free items. Of course, you can only do this once and you cannot count the price of the free items. Peanut butter, eggs, 1/2 gallon of milk, bag of sugar and a bag of flour are the items. Such a deal!

I sent in my DNA test sample to Ancestry today and have to wait 6-8 weeks for the results. I'm not expecting any surprises. I think it will come back showing that I am 100% eastern European.
We'll see.

It got really cold here and we are expecting snow this weekend. Staying in and staying safe.

Sending you all the best.

Gail I hope things come together and it all works out. I hate that people don't respond and leave you in the lurch. It sure plays havoc with planning.

Today was errand/shopping day in my life. Not fun, but it had to be done. I took 2 angels (children) to buy for at church on Sunday and also adopted a senior today while I was out so wanted to get that shopping done and also pick up toys for the toys for tots drive. I have it all done and will turn in the angel gifts on Wed at church and have that out of the way. I will have to take the senior gift to the senior service who distributes the gifts later this week. I was happy to see after Vickie & I took names from the senior tree that there was just 1 name left and hoping someone will get that so everyone gets a gift that they requested. Sad that some seniors would get nothing without this every year.

Our world of technology has left some people in its wake. Yesterday I had occasion to call two ladies who were in their early 90s. One doesn't use a computer. The other didn't even have an answering machine. Hard to get a hold of folks at the last minute.

The woman who takes care of our bridge arrangements got sick. and was in the hospital. I learned of this when I emailed her on Thursday to find out if we were having bridge on Tuesday. She told me she was exhausted and would take care of it later. I emailed back and asked if there was anything I could do. She didn't need anything. Last night I emailed her again and repeated my offer. She emailed back asking me to take care of bridge. Well, it was around 6 PM and thus the last minute. I knew we'd need at least one sub since the leader wouldn't be there and sent out an email to all asking everyone to get back to me to see who was coming and who was not. I also asked if anyone could provide a ride for a member who doesn't drive any more, and for someone to be in charge of getting subs. Following the email I called each of the members but only managed to reach one. I had to leave voice messages. What a mess. I would have thought that most of them would have gotten back to me later in the evening, but only one did. We'll see what happens today.

Sending you all a hug.

Val I agree with Gail-you need to get that checked out. Don't let this go and become a big problem. I was itching and had a rash on my foot and thought I had gotten bit by the ants-NOT, it was an allergic reaction and I had to put a salve on my feet for 2 weeks and it cleared it right up. Sure your issue isn't that but I am glad I happened to be at my podiatrist a few days after this started and she diagnosed my problem.

I had a busy Sunday-church, lunch out with friends, an 80th birthday party and then went to the lighting ceremony in our city park and watched the lighted boat parade. I had never been to it and it was absolutely beautiful. There were about 20-25 boats all lit up. I took some pics so will try to do a blog and show some of them soon.

Val: So good to hear from you. Glad to know your job isn't in jeopardy. What a relief that must be.

Val, don't put the issue of the red spots on hold. See a doctor. You want to take care of this NOW.

Yesterday I got that DNA kit from ancestry, but I didn't open it. Think I'll wait till tomorrow. I went out yesterday to run some errands and the parking lot at the mall was FULL. It was a sea of cars. Never saw it so full before. Well, that decided one thing for me. There was no way I was going to shape for shoes a get in to that mess.

Started another Camilleri book yesterday. It's gives me so much enjoyment.

Hope you all have a nice Sunday.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much for a while. Things just seem to get so crazy around here and every time I think I'm catching up something new comes up that I need to deal with. The latest thing is that I've got little red spots all over my feet. At first I thought they were latex spots caused by my latex allergy and wearing Crocs (which are made from rubber) at work every day. But I spent a couple of weeks wearing different shoes and the spots didn't go away. Now I think that they may be petichiae caused by a bleeding issue that's going on somewhere in my body. We see petichiae in patients who have very low platelet counts, but I don't have this going on. My platelet count is generally on the high end of normal (350 to 450, with a normal range of 150 to 450), but when I was tested about a week ago they were 179. Hardly the kind of count that's likely to result in bleeding, but still quite a bit lower than my usual count. So anyway, that's one of the strange things that have been going on with me...

We had a nice week or two of fall here, but then I blinked and all of a sudden winter was here! I haven't seen snow here in town but I stayed home sick on Wednesday of this week and several people have told me that there was a bit of snow in some parts of town on that day. Nothing that stuck around until the afternoon, but apparently it did happen. I didn't see it because I spent the entire day in bed, but I did have to turn my heater on that day because it was really cold in my apartment. I thought it was just me being sick at the time, but apparently it was pretty cold that day and it's been getting really cold at night. Last night I bought a large ice tea at McDonald's and left it in my car overnight to take in to work with me this afternoon...and the ice didn't melt at all overnight. emoticon Probably nothing compared to what some of you are having right now, but this is New Mexico and we just don't handle cold too well sometimes... emoticon

I'm trying to get my act together for Christmas. I've got some of the presents I need to mail already but I still need to get cards and mailers. Maybe I'll find something when I go shopping on Sunday or Monday...

To answer Gail's (I think) question, I've mostly finished my resume and I've even written a cover letter for the very first time in my life. (Only the second time for a resume and it's been 20 years since I wrote my last one. emoticon ) I need to do a bit of editing and then I think I'll be ready to submit my application and resume so that I can apply to continue doing the job I've been doing for 15 years. What a pain, but the good thing is that I will almost certainly have a job come March 1st because there are only so many techs here in the state and our new company really needs all of us in order to run all of the labs in our system. It's just a bit nerve wracking having to apply for my job for the third time. emoticon I'll be happy when it's all over...

Anyway, that's all the griping I have to do for today. I hope that things are going really well for the rest of you and that you're all staying warm and well. Everybody take care, and just in case I don't write again this year (which would seem to be a possibility based on my recent track record...) I hope that you all have a blessed Christmas, Chanukkah, or whatever else you celebrate at this time of year. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Things are starting to come together for me-most of the park is decorated, almost have another project finished so we can decorate the entry island and worked on a pic for our Christmas cards yesterday but today when I went to upload them, I was told the resolution wasn't good so will try doing them again. Hoping to get that taken care of early this week as the following week I think the handyman will be doing our bedroom flooring. If it doesn't get too cold, we are to get our driveway sealed then too.

Good Morning:

Well, I'm making progress. In the past when I was under stress I would eat. Yesterday I went through a big test. I had some kinks in my Apple products and spent hours on the phone trying to get help. One major problem was I was disconnected 3-4 times. Not good. The good news was that the tech had my phone number and called me back. Anyway, I didn't gravitate to food. I had a normal dinner and watched the History Channel.

Getting my hair done today and then am looking forward to writing a few cards for the holidays. I'll also stop at Aldi's to pick up some stuff.

Hope you are all well,

Gail
