What a tragedy in TN and now tornadoes have hit in the south. Tragedy everywhere. Life will never be the same for any of these folks.

Gail we put up lights on fencing in two places, we have spiral trees on both sides of our entry sign and a big snowman that lights up. We place Christmas themed cookie jars around in flower beds, we put garland up in several spots (arbor and an entry area), we have some large snow people, a santa we put on the bench by the pool, and various decorations all over the park! Takes time just getting it all out and organized to distribute around the park and then even more to wash it off and put it all away after Christmas!!

We put up the spiral trees and the snowmen today and of course it was extremely windy so that really made it fun. We even put some huge ornaments in a couple of the palms in the front and on our holly tree.

Well, the sun is gone again and the temps dropped. That said I'm not complaining. Did you all see the film clips of the wild fires destroying east TN? They had to evacuate over 60,000 people. The folks their had to drive through fire and smoke to get away. With 60 mile an hour winds the fire spread to rapidly that folks were lucky to get away with their lives.

Sandy: So sorry to hear that you have got a bug. My neighbors whole family is down with the flu. Miserable....I'm so sorry you have to work. Use as much hand sanitizer as you can. It does help.

Pat: Good to learn you and your volunteers will be decorating the park. Too much for just one person to handle. What all do you put up?

Sending hugs and wishes for you all to be well and happy.

Gail

Val: We haven't heard from you? Did you get your resume finished? What's happening?

Sandy do hope you both get to feeling better soon. So hard to stay healthy when you are out in the public. I sure do a lot of hand sanitizer this time of the year hoping to avoid bringing or giving germs to others and especially for my DH.

Gail my DH isn't fond of white meat but with just the 2 of us a turkey is just toooooo much so he has to eat white so I try to keep it as moist as I can.

Today Vickie & I and another volunteer, Mary, got 3/4 of the park decorations up. Hoping to get it pretty well done tomorrow but the final touch has to wait on 2 other projects. We are putting landscape blocks around one of our huge oak trees and had to go buy more. Once that is all in place, our maint men will remove some of the dirt from our entry island and we are going to put in bark rock. Once that is done, we can decorate it.

Gail it is a lot of work to do a turkey, etc. I did a breast yesterday. Surprising easy in the crockpot. Just put in chopped onions and celery, laid the thawed breast on top-you don't add any fluid and let it cook about 5 hours on high. Time would vary depending on the size of the breast. I also have the broth now to make soup which I may do tomorrow and think I will make a pot pie and freeze it for later.

Today I went to Bealls and spent my Bealls bucks I earned when I bought the bedding. I was able to buy myself a nice 3/4 sleeve top for $6.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving. It was just four of us: my daughter, sil, granddaughter and I. I made the turkey, stuffing and gravy and got the rolls and a pie. My daughter and sil made the potatoes, veggies, a turkey sausage dressing and cranberry relish. My sil's mom called the last minute to cancel. She was not feeling well.

You know, in recent years I've found it quite exhausting to prepare the turkey. It's not only the preparation, it's the clean-up. That doesn't only entail the dishes and roasting pan, it's wrapping up all the left overs for myself and others, and throwing the turkey carcass in water to make a broth. The following day I took the meat off the bones, discarded the bones, strained the broth, and spent two hours making turkey salad and finishing up the soup. I had a friend over for leftovers and sent her home with a care package for her sister.

Yesterday I didn't do much of anything. I packaged and froze the stuffing and turkey, read, did puzzles on my IPad, watched some TV and just took it very easy. Plan on doing much the same today.

The temperatures have been in the 20s-30s in the am and up in the low to mid 40s in the afternoon. The good news is that is is sunny. WOO HOO!

Hoping you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Gail

Actually Gail, it wasn't stressful. There were people in the store but no one in the bedding area! I had to wait for only 3 people ahead of me to check out so that wasn't bad. I figured it would be worse today.

Today was our anniversary and Bill gifted me with a relaxing massage session this morning. That hour went way too fast!! Thinking I will give him that for Christmas. We don't really do gifts but this is something that will benefit us both - easing the tension in my back and neck and hopefully ease the pain he feels in the neck/shoulder/back area.

This evening we went to dinner with some of our friends. Awesome time enjoying seafood looking out at the lake and seeing seaplanes taking off!!

Pat: I don't know how you do it/ I hate shopping in the first place. To battle the crowds is more than I'd care to tackle.

We had Thanksgiving here. I made the turkey, stuffing and gravy. My daughter brought the rest of the stuff. It was exhausting, even with all that help. I just don't have the stamina I used to have.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and are now ready to gear up for Christmas.

Gail

We were supposed to get our bedroom painted today but the young man called late yesterday evening to say he is running a fever so told him to no worry-we would reschedule as I don't want him around DH!

I did some cleaning and got Christmas decorations out for the group who decorates our fences and light poles.

Had today off and I just rested all day. It has been raining here all day today. We have been in the high 40's all day.

Nan - You already got snow. That is early.

Gail - Stay warm. That is down right cold. i thought 45 in the morning was cold.

Pat - You are getting cooler weather lately yourself.

Well, next week is my busy week and crazy one also. Wish me luck!

Nan sorry to hear your electric was off for several hours. Hope that didn't cause a big issue for you.

Gail I know our 67 sounds warm to you but remember we were 80 yesterday so it really seems cool to us. I am thankful we don't have to worry about snow. Folks just north of us may have frost tonight.

We had our fall picnic at church today-of course it would be the coldest day so far this fall but we managed to get a seat in the sun so it was quite pleasant. We are watching the Nascar race now - our favorite driver is in contention for the title.

It is now 27F and the high is expected to be about 37. This coming week it's supposed to warm up a bit. Actually, I can't complain. This first winter storm that has crossed the mid-wed missed us completely. We had high winds, but that was it.

I tried a new mystery author this passed week but couldn't get into the book. Anther author that I tried a week or two ago I had to put down. The topics he dealt with were just too much for me to embrace. I find it soo uncomfortable to read books that entail child abuse. Also, one of the books had to do with the murder of a man who had his original research stolen by his mentor. This too hit a nerve. Anyone who has functioned in academia knows what I'm talking about. I guess it just hits too close to home and is a reminder of the ruthlessness that exists in academic institutions.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday.

Gail

MAW_OH I haven't seen you post before. Welcome to our team.

Fri we visited an Wildlife Animal Sanctuary with friends. Interesting to see and glad they are helping to save some of these big cats and let them live out the rest of their lives in safety. They operate solely on contributions and the $$ earned from giving tours.

Today I played catch up for being gone the past couple of days and still need to get more done before we get our bedroom painted on Mon.

We hit 80 today but supposed to cool down and only have a high of 67 tomorrow.

Well, the temps dropped last night and we're in for a chilly weekend....low in the 20s; high in the high 30s. The wind is very loud and hard, and the wind-chill at the moment is 18. Things should warm up a bit on Monday. I might go out to the supermarket if I get the urge, but I'm perfectly fine staying in. I've got everything I need, so there is no urgency.

No special plans this weekend, so I'll curl up with a book and enjoy.

Woke to 39 degrees this morning. BRRR Had to be at work at 5:30am this morning will be off at 1:30pm today then off tomorrow. Long week next week. We are 30 people short for the Holiday season this year. So, we are really trying to pick up the slack. I am working on Thanksgivings.

Gail - so far I am keeping the business as long as DH is working for UPS it helps me with the extra in-come we have to have that extra money as the business doesn't bring in any money during Dec- about March.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend - stay warm.

Good Morning:

Sandy. Glad DH has been sober. Is he taking care of the business? Are you still thinking of selling the business?

Pat: We will go down to the high 20s this weekend. Brrrr

Nan: Any plans for Thanksgiving?

Val: How is the resume coming along?

I had some routine medical appointments in the last week and everything is great. It's great to be alive.

We are cool today by FL standards-I had to dig out a long sleeved shirt and even wore a light jacket when I walked about 7:30. DH had to go to the oncologist for his 3 mo checkup and all is good. He is having tummy issues again-good and bad days but that isn't related to this dr visit.

Well, it has been a very busy month. I have been going into work at 5:00/5:30 AM almost every day so far. I have either been on Truck or Cash Office to start then Merchandising afterwards. Been getting off about 1 or 2 PM each day. I have been luck a couple of days and gotten off at 10AM. Most of the time I have come home and just gone right back to bed to get some sleep. My days off I am cleaning , doing laundry or going to the store. Plus catching up on sleep. For Thanksgiving I am working 5:30pm to 12am. Than going back in the next day for Black Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM this will be a long day for me.

DH got a job with UPS for the Holiday season. Hoping to stay on after the Holidays. He has been doing much better. He is 1 1/2 yrs sober now. Hopefully he stays that way.

I am doing fine just a little tire. Had been under the weather a couple of days but, got a lot of sleep on my day off.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Vail - glad you found little kitty.

Pat - you get such great bargains at your yard sales. I need to go with you.

Gail - I hardly watch the news any more as it is so negative. I get the weather and that is about it. Keep positive as things will all work out.

Nan - I saw the Moon. They say it is the closes it has been to the Earth in years.

Gail I wish the media would quit feeding into the craziness. I think a lot of it is people wanting their moment of fame and then some people like to riot just because.
I choose not to dignify their actions no matter which side they are on. We have a choice every single day and I choose to look on the bright side - the sun comes up every day no matter what. So I look for the sunny side!!!

We went to another huge community yard sale today but didn't find a thing I could not live without!! I am looking for new pictures for our bedroom so will continue to "be on the hunt" until I find what I am looking for.

Hope everyone is doing all right. I'm in distress over what is going on in our country. Tolerance, kindness and a sense of charity have all seemed to vanish. Greed and the lust for power seems to be what is propelling our nation forward. But it's not just us. It's also the rest of the world. There has always been corruption, shady dealings and the desire for control. But never before has it been this bad in the USA. Worse yet, things seem to be deteriorating more and more year after year.

Right now I'm very cynical about our human race. Horrible.....

Good Morning:

If you read my blog from yesterday you know that I had a terrible experience having been taken in by pfishing. I high tailed it to the Apple store and waited about 3 1/2 hours to see someone at the Genius Bar. What a mess. I have to wonder why talented people turn to scams when they could easily make good money honestly.

On Wednesday I had a routine colonoscopy. The results were great, but the prep nearly killed me. I was still feeling queasy yesterday and have eaten almost nothing since my colonoscopy. I'm hoping to eat at least a bit more today.

Val: So happy you got your kitty safe and sound. Have you done much with your resume. I know how daunting it can be to rework it.

Sending you all lots of positive energy.

After my walk around this corner of the complex Thursday night, my little Cali Cat finally found her way back home. I had been leaving the door to my patio open whenever I was home so she just let herself in and jumped up on my bed around 6:05 on Friday morning. Poor little thing was out there over a couple of cold, rainy nights with no food or water except for what she was able to find so she came back looking skinny, absolutely filthy, and with a little bit of a kitty head cold. She seems to be feeling better now and I'm a much happier cat mama than I was a few days ago. emoticon emoticon

I hope the week is starting out well for the rest of you. For me it's time to go to bed. I'll try to post again soon.

There was much rejoicing!

Had a lovely weekend and am enjoying glorious weather. Most of the leaves have fallen so the trees look bare, but the sun is shining and we have very pleasant temperatures that get up to the low 60s in the afternoon.

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend.

Gail

Val, so sorry you haven't found kitty yet. Hoping soon she will find her way back to you. How great you can get help with your resume. I am sure a lot has changed since I last did one. When our company closed, they hired a professional to help us write ours and it was nothing like I had learned and that was in 2000! Times they were a changing then and I am sure they have changed by leaps and bounds now.

I am planning to be up early and go to a couple of big community yard sales. I am looking for specific items. Since we are redoing our bedroom, I need some new pictures to complement the new paint in there and if I got really lucky a new rug!

I walked around my complex for 30 or 45 minutes after work tonight. We've been having some weather recently and I don't have much strength in my legs right now, so after the 3rd time I almost fell going up or down curbs or steps I decided to call it a night. A friend sent me a link to some good information about finding a lost cat and from what it said, she's probably found herself someplace to hide where she feels somewhat safe and she's mostly staying in and around that spot. I walked around most of my corner of the complex and if it's not raining tomorrow night I'll go out again. I've got some kind of cane around here somewhere and I'm going to try to find it and take it with me. That way I can keep myself from falling and probably look for a little bit longer tomorrow.

Okay, enough about my cat. When my mom is here we love going to a couple of places for lunch and dinner. We both get a full lunch or dinner and take half of our food home in a box. Then after she leaves I've got a couple of days' worth of leftovers...and then I go back to eating well again. emoticon

The company that will be running the labs at my hospital system had some hour long meetings today. We're all going to have to apply for our jobs but they will have a preference for keeping people where they're working now. We can start applying for jobs now and then we'll have an interview...sometime... I need to get a resume together, which is a thought that terrifies me. But my friend Angela's ex told me to ask her to help me because she loves that kind of stuff....and I work with Angela on Saturdays so I'll be able to talk to her about it. There is a good free site that will help me, too. I figure maybe Angela can help me put together a good resume on that site and then I could keep it on my computer and update it as necessary. (Just in case someone from work sees this, we are also friends outside of work so we can work on my resume without wasting company time doing it at work.)

I asked today about the not eligible for rehire thing and I was told that they understand that we all have things happen in our lives, and also that they are going to be the only game in town and they're going to need all of the techs in the system because there aren't a lot of spare ones out there to hire. So they will consider each case on an individual basis and I think I'll be okay, it's just going to be a pain in the hind end... emoticon

So that's the state of Vali's life today. I hope you've all got plans for a really great weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Gail glad to hear you had a wonderful visit and a nice friend to pick you up and share a meal with. Bill & I sometimes share (if we can agree on what we want to eat), if not we usually bring home half to have for a meal the next day. As you said, we don't seem to eat as much as we used to.

Val do hope you find your kitty soon. Also pray that you will be able to keep your job with no issue. Always something to worry about.

Not sure what I accomplished but was busy pretty much all day. Did go to Lowes to get lighted garland (time to get ready for Christmas decorating) as we were afraid if we waited they might not have enough for later on. Our fence is about 200 ft long A nice resident had given me $$ to buy it so it didn't cut into my budget money which was nice.

Just got in last night from a long weekend in Charlotte with family. Had a great visit.

A friend picked me up from the airport and we went out to eat afterward. We did something I never did before. We shared one meal. It was just right. I realized after that I almost always eat what is before me even when I am no longer hungry. This was just great as far as portion size and cost.

Gail

Val: so sorry to hear about your kitty. Hope you find her soon.

Pat: wonderful that you hired someone to do the weeding, etc. Whew, one less thing to think about for you.

I really think that sooner or later she's bound to end up back at our corner of the complex. I think that I'm going to start walking between here and the pool during the day to get my smell out there for her. I've never really walked around the complex too much so hopefully she'll start smelling me and follow my scent home. And my security patrol friend who works Tuesday through Friday nights is going to look out for her and try to herd her back to me if he sees her.

I found out today that the company I used to work for has been chosen to run the labs in the hospital system where I work. Unfortunately I was fired by them 15 years ago and I'm not eligible to be rehired. I don't know if they're just going to take all of the employees straight across, or if I'll have to apply for my job again. I'm going to work on that from 2 angles at the moment...just in case...(I love this apartment and I really don't want to have to break my lease and move to another city...at least...or state, but I'm also going to pay someone to help me write a really good resume...again, just in case...)

I hope you're all having a great week.

There was much rejoicing!

Val so sorry to hear about your cat and do hope you can get her back home. We have a "stray" that some folks in the subdivision next to our community lets roam. We have called them several times to come and get their cat and the lady comes but one of these days she is either going to get caught in one of the traps we set for strays or get hit. People tend to dump their cats here and we turn them over to a no kill shelter when we catch them. Several times we have had momma kitties dumped who leave us with kittens. Hate that people do this but they aren't going to find homes here.
Vickie & I got all the Halloween decorations put away today.

My health related goal for November is to start going to bed and getting up a little bit earlier so that I can be rested enough to make some other changes in my life, but my main goal at the moment is completely unrelated to my physical health. On Thursday or (more likely) Friday my cat got out and she has been lost since then. My biggest goal of any kind right now is to get her back home safely. The security patrol guy who's working tonight asked me if I'd lost a cat and what she looked like, and then told me that he thinks he's seen her wandering around between my corner of the apartment complex and the pool, which is in the middle of the complex. He said he'd try to scare her back toward my corner of the complex if he sees her tonight. She's not going to let anyone pick her up or even go near her, but she is somewhat familiar with the security patrol guy who will be here tomorrow night so maybe she would be willing to allow him to herd her in my direction.

Anyway, those are my goals for the month. I hope November starts out really well for the rest of you.

There was much rejoicing!
