I'm hoping that they won't need me on very many days. One of the things I got from the court says that on average people get chosen for 3 juries during their time of service. Hopefully mine will at least be interesting.

I hope that hurricane decides to pass you by. Sounds like it's a pretty bad one. Please be really careful and stay safe.

Val, I had to do my civic duty a few weeks ago. Luckily I only had to stay there 1 day and was released.
I am packed and ready to head to Daytona Beach tomorrow - of course, Matthew is heading our way so waiting to see how that affects us! Hoping we have some clear weather.

I have 3 weeks of jury duty starting on Monday. I'm wondering how the pink (for now) hair will go over at the courthouse... emoticon Not that I really care much, but sometimes I do enjoy taking people out of their comfort zones...

Speaking of being outside of comfort zones, for 3 weeks I'll possibly have to be in court at 8:15 in the morning, which is about 3 hours before I even wake up most days. But when I'm not on a jury I'll still be working on my evening shift schedule. Man alive, my body's going to get confused pretty quickly. emoticon I know it's an important thing to do, and I know that it's a responsibility that everyone has...but I don't really want to do this. Oh well. Guess it was going to happen sooner or later. I wonder if I have anything that's appropriate to wear in court. Probably not, and they're just going to have to deal with that in addition to the hair. Okay, I feel better now...

Our weather has gotten a lot cooler all of a sudden. I like it, though I'm not at all ready for the real winter we're likely to have here this year. We've been getting rain recently and it's been enough cooler that I'm going to have to start wearing a jacket in the evening after work. What a difference a year can make. I hope you all have plans for a fun weekend before it gets cold. I'd better get to bed soon so I'll just have to tell you any other news another time.

There was much rejoicing!

It was a beautiful sunny day here but, cool. The clouds start rolling in late this afternoon. We are expecting rain tomorrow. I have been working 40 hour weeks the past 2 weeks and coming home and taking a nap or just going to bed. To get up at 6am and start my day again.

Vali - I think that is wonderful that you colored your hair in Pink. Here in Washington you see that a lot. Bright blues, greens, and reds.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Wish it was cool enough here to be thinking of chili-high of 89 today. Finished decorating the park this morning before it got unbearable out-very humid. This afternoon we got about 1.5 inches of rain in about 90 min.

Beautiful sunny day but it's quite cool. High will only be in the upper 50s today. Picked some rhubarb yesterday and would like to make a cake but for some reason I just don't have whatever it takes to get started. Made chili yesterday. With the cooler wether it's a great thing to have in the freezer.

Val so happy you are enjoying the change in hair color. As Gail said, it is important to find joy in the simple things of life. What brings one joy might not another but that is what makes this such a wonderful world.

Gail good for you for taking care of the funeral home for your kids. We have taken care of our final arrangements and it was a feeling of relief once it was done.

Today we were up early and headed to Tampa/St. Pete with Vickie & Sonny. We visited Sunken Gardens there and it was quite interesting (at least to V&I). Glad we arrived when they opened as it quickly warmed up. We spent a couple of hours touring the 4 acres of all kinds of displays of floral and palm plantings. They also had koi ponds, flamingos and parrots and other birds throughout the park. We had also planned to visit the SS. Victory Maritime Museum but it was in dry dock being repainted We may lose our tickets to do that as they expire on the 30th and it is a 2 hr drive each way and we don't want to go back next week if they get it back!

Pat: So sorry to hear that Bill is still having trouble. Poor guy goes through so much.

Val: Sounds like you're having a blast and that's what's important. I've come to realize...kindda late in life...that getting joy and amusement in life is just as important as having a feeling of accomplishment and pride.

Yesterday I bought a life insurance policy to pay for my funeral. I had the plot and the stone up when Vic died. This policy is through the funeral home and they guarantee their prices which go up about $300/year. It will have to be done and this is just one less thing my kids have to think about. Of all the problems I had after Vic's death, the funeral home wasn't one of them. They took care of so much.

Going to start a new book today and that always makes me happy.

Enjoy the weekend,

Gail

I played with colors in my hair when I was in my 20s but I never did anything like this. I've been wanting to try some crazy colored hair for a while and when I saw the conditioners that this company sells I decided to give them a try. It's been a lot of fun so far and hey, my shoes matched my hair today. emoticon (I have Crocs in numerous colors, one of which is sort of pepto bismol pink.) Some of the people at work think my hair is really cool, some of them think I'm crazy, and some of them just find me amusing. I don't care, I just think it's really fun. When I'm through playing with all of this I might just have my stylist use a pink dye that's permanent, we'll see...

There was much rejoicing!

Val, you are a braver soul than I am! Glad to hear from you and that all is going well for you. I don't think you ever said but was the summer easier to bear with you having a/c this year?

Gail, I am thinking they misdiagnosed me at Urgent Care. I truly I have some kind of a bug bite. I do not hurt but it itches something fierce. I may try to see if my dr can get me in tomorrow.

Today I had to take Bill to the ortho doc and he got another shot in his shoulder. It has only been 3 mo since his last one. Dr. said if it doesn't last any longer this time, they will have to do an MRI to see if he has an additional tear in there which would mean more surgery.

Since then, I have taken it easy for the most part. I even took a nap this afternoon.

Val: Whatever possessed you to try those colors? Do you like any of them? I wouldn't have the courage to do it, especially if I had to go out in public every day. Has anyone said anything to you at work? Is this a new trend? I haven''t seen much around here, but every so often I see a teenager with some bright colored hair.

Oh, I thought of something I should have told you guys...

I have pink hair! Yes, pink hair. For another couple of weeks, anyway. I got sample sizes of the 3 different levels of color that this company makes for pink, blue, green and purple. The company is called Overtone and the product they sell is a conditioner that has a semi permanent hair color in it. If you keep using it your hair stays whatever color but if you stop using it the color will just wash out after a few shampoos. So first I got my hair bleached and was a blonde for a week. I've got a really horrible photo of my blonde self that I might post for you guys to see. Last week I used the middle intensity of pink all week and I'll probably post a picture of that, too. My mom said it was more of a shock to see me as a blonde than to see the pink hair. Anyway, I'll probably post those pics here even though I think I look awful in them. (I'm trying to get over that, which is why I'm going to try to make myself post those pictures for you guys.) Next week and maybe the week after I'll be just letting the pink wash out of my hair, and once the pink is mostly gone I'll be starting on green...

There was much rejoicing!

I had shingles one time. I had a relatively mild case, just 3 or 4 blisters on the right side of my belly but man alive, did those blisters hurt sometimes! I'm hoping that I never let my immune system get so bad again that I have a relapse in the future, guess we'll just see about that...

I keep starting email replies to the group, but I get about 2 thoughts into them and think "no, nobody wants to hear about that" and so I don't post them. I hope nobody's been worrying about me, we all know that I do this from time to time...

Everything has been pretty good here. Halfway decent weather lately, fall has definitely arrived here and I love it. I won't be so happy when it really gets cold here, but for now I'm just thrilled to be finished with the summer heat for this year. (I hope so, anyway. It can always come back for a while around here...) My health has been good, though I've been having a lot of pain recently. I'm sure that will improve when we stop having stormy weather...but then it might get hot again, so maybe I'll just take the pain...

I hope you're all having a great week. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Pat: I don't know if I can help you with trivia regarding authors and books unless it's mysteries or French literature from old French up to the mid 29th century. As for your shingles, I'm so sorry. I understand it is painful and very contagious. Take care.

Well, no water in the basement, no broken windows, but there is damage to the siding, roof and gutter guards. My insurance will cover all but the deductible, which I can handle. Had a guy come by today soliciting work. Called 3 references that said he was outstanding. Also checked with the BBB and he's had an A rating for 6 years straight. Will have him do the work. Gee, it's good to have insurance.

Well I gave in and went to Urgent Care this morning and the doc says the spot above my right eye is shingles. I have had it about a week and it is growing and heading towards my eye so thought I had best not let it go. I am on medicine and hoping that will clear it up. I had chills Sat & Sun night but not last night.
Gail we need you at Trivia. We didn't do good last night-5th out of 6 teams. We are terrible at authors and books!

I'm starting a new book today, The wooden leg of Inspector Anders by Marshall Browne, Any of you familiar with this author?

We had a really bad storm yesterday afternoon with lots of hail. For a while there I was concerned that a window might be shattered. Fortunately, there was no damage. That said, the yard and sidewalk is strewn with leaves, twigs and small branches. Got to get that cleared out.

Hoping you are all doing well,

Gail

Sandy: Take care of yourself.

Had a good day at work last night. It was a short night. I have a long night tonight I work 4 to 10pm. But, I am in jewelry tonight. I was final in my dept. last night but, wasn't able to get much done. But, hopefully I will be spending more time in there soon. We are short handed right now with the kids going back to school for I am filling in where they need me. We are hiring but that is a processes.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend. emoticon

Sandy hope you get to feeling better before you have to go to work.

We had the first community yard sale of the season today. I got a bird house, a shepherd's hook and a Chrismtas cookie jar we use for decoration-all for the park. People take their yard sales seriously down here-we arrived about 15 min before it opened and cars were already lined up waiting to get in-about 75 ahead of us!

I think I got sick as I got two shots in one arm. My arm was extra sore. I won't do that again. I had no problem last year but, I got them at different times. I have been resting since and I am feeling much better. I don't have to be at work tomorrow till 8 pm. So, it is like having days off - in a way. Weather is changing here and it is starting to get cooler at night and in the morning hours. Even our rain has started to come back - emoticon . The temperatures during the day have come down to the low 70's.

Pat - I am glad that the really hard rain missed you guys. But, it is too bad for the other areas.

Hope that everyone has a great weekend. emoticon

Sandy sorry getting both shots at once made you ill. I got both last year but in different arms and had no issue with it, just a little sore. This year I need to get the Prevnar vaccine.

The storms have pretty much missed us. We get hit or miss rain but nothing like other areas have gotten. Our lake is actually down 6 inches from last year. We haven't gotten the rain we got last year and as a precaution, some of the water was released from the lake as the officials were afraid that with hurricane season coming it could cause flooding-WRONG!

Today has been a bear-got the closet unloaded and cleaned the floor before Harrison arrived. Bill finally got the shredding done. While Harrison painted, we put the cubes together. Glad they weren't too hard to assemble.

I had hoped to get it all put back together today but it was nearly 5 when Harrison finished so it will be tomorrow before I put things away.

Well, I picked up my Meds on Sunday and figured that I would get my Flu shot and pneumonia shot while I was there. BIG MISTAKE. The gal that gave it to me was a fill in and didn't know where anything was. She told me that they can give the shot one in each arm or both shots in one arm. I said any problem with both in one arm said no. Well, there is. Your are is much more sore that when you get one shot and you get really sick. My body was fighting both the flu and pneumonia. So, you are not suppose to get both at the same time. I had a 9 hr shift the next day and I tired to go in and work. I just could not make. I went home and passed out and slept the rest of the day. Didn't wake up till the next day. I had that day off. I still am a little out of sorts. But, better than I was.

Pat - I hope that things have clam down around you.

Gail - The devises that these people are using they are also using them in other places. And some times they can just walk past you and get the information. That is why I have gone with a special wallet not that they are not able to read. They are very Tech savvy now. I believe the type of wallet that it is call is RIF. It will block their devises anytime they walk by you. The chips on all the credits now are suppose to help stop these people. It is when you swipe your card is when they are able to get all your information. It happen to DH once and he believes it was from the gas pump. It happen to me not too long ago and it was my gas card before I got my chip card. Luckily for both of us it was caught early and both companies reimbursed us. It is a very sad world we live in now. It would probably be better if we all went back to cash and that got rid of credit cards all together. HA! Then the bank won't make money.

Hope everyone had a great week.

I never carry much cash, but am thinking of doing more business with greenbacks. In our area some thieves have somehow put a device in the mechanism of gas pumps and it gives them your credit card or debit card number. Several people have experienced identity theft and see huge purchases showing up on their cards. What are we coming to? If they spent half the energy in honest endeavors (work or training) they could do well and the public at large could live in peace, free from fear.

Pat: How are you doing with all the storms hitting Florida?

Hope your Thursday is really good.

Busy day-walked the furbabies, took DH to get his blood drawn, did some yard work, cleaned house, paid some bills, did 2 loads of laundry, did my ironing, made some treats for DH, and went to play Trivia this evening. We came in 3rd and won $10 for our group!

Yes, it's getting darker earlier here too Nan. That said, the last few days have been wonderful.

I recently got into puzzles and last Saturday I did a puzzle with a friend. Well, today I went to Goodwill and got two puzzles. I hope all the pieces are there. They were $1.29 each. I also got a mini cuisinart food processor for about $5. The thing that gets me is they tape up and put stickers on their merchandise and it's a bugger to get off. I went on line and they recommended vegetable oil. It's much better but.....

I remember when stores didn't put out Christmas till Thanksgiving but now they can't even let us get to Labor Day without putting out Christmas!! By the time it arrives you won't be able to find anything!
I cleaned house today and worked some in my yard. Almost have it whipped back into shape again. It is a constant battle!

Well, I made it through "Back to school" and Labor Day weekend. It was a crazy weekend. Now we are gearing up for the Holiday. Starting Wednesday we are setting for Christmas. We all can't believe we are setting for Christmas in September. The next truck we will get even more Christmas products. We have already gotten some of our Christmas items in that are waiting on the dock to be put out.

So, I now get to relax for a while till mid October. That is when things start to get busy again.

Hope that everyone is having a great weekend.

Gail hope you had a great time shopping. What a bargain on your flip flops! That is frugal.

We had about 40 for our community BBQ today. What a nice time and I have to say so many good cooks in our community! In the winter the dinners draw 120-150 so nice to have a smaller group in the summer.

I am moving along on the closet and bedroom project. I have picked a color for both and will get the closet finished before we start on the bedroom. The previous owner loved floral prints and I want to take off the floral border in the bedroom and work from there. I have a floral bathroom and dining room that will get facelifts in the future. One thing at a time!!!

No special plans for today but will probably go window shopping. I did go out yesterday to pick up a few things and found that I had been walking for about 1 1/2 hours. I broke my flip flops and found some on clearance at Old Navy for 49 cents, so I took 4 pairs. I wear them in the house all the time. Want to try window shopping today. It's one way of getting me off my butt.

Hope you all enjoy the day.

All the rain is making it really muggy-high of 89 today but the humidity was horrible. More rain this evening-not sure how much we got.
We are having a community picnic tomorrow so I have my food ready for that. Did that after we got home from playing cards which we did after church and eating lunch out. I made a gluten free pineapple upside down cake for DH for tomorrow, deviled eggs and grape salad

Pat - So glad to hear that you are all OK. It look awful. It seemed some parts really got hit pretty hard. Just glad you all had the wind and rain. not that can be much better some times.

I just relax all day as I have a 8 hour day tomorrow. Been sleeping better now that the heat is one and the weather has cooled down. I seem to sleep better in the Winter than I do the Summer. lt has been a beautiful day today it rained a little this morning and then cleared a little late afternoon. We finally got a good rain. We are to another dose again this week.

Hope everyone is having a get weekend.

Thanks for your concern Sandy. We had one last rain squall hit this afternoon and it dumped another inch on us but no problem for us-soaked up and now you can't even tell it rained.

We dodged the worst of Hermine-we are getting the rain squalls and some wind gusts. Overnight we picked up 2 inches and today we have gotten another 1/2 inch and still getting bursts of rain.
I had to go to the podiatrist today and had to drive thru pouring rain. Not fun but we made it there and back safely. It is about 30 mi to the office. The office used to be about 7 mi. from my house but moved!
Any big plans for the weekend? I have to take something to share with our SS class on Sunday and we have a community picnic on Monday. I am going to try to make a GF pineapple upside down cake for DH and also some deviled eggs.

Sandy: So sorry to hear you got a bug. Hope you shake it soon.

Pat: How are you doing? Do you have flooding where you are?

Val: We haven't heard from you in a long while. Everything all right?

Nan: We here in Wisconsin have mostly been unaffected by horrible weather. I haven't heard much about your neck of the woods either. Everything OK?

Stay safe and well everyone.

I am with you Pat.

Sorry I caught a bug the other day and came home and slept yesterday and most of today. I work tomorrow 8:30am to 4pm. I am feeling better today. Felt terrible yesterday and the night before. Had no sleep. Have Saturday off so will sleep then.

Have a great weekend ladies! Remember our Troops. emoticon
